Floating format  (aug 6).  Neuroscientist Dr. David Eagleman  talked about how cool the brain is and offered to find one for George.   Dr John Abramson  is on a mission to shove ObamaCare down our throats and called town hall protesters "brown shirts."
Yeah, this healthcare thing is gonna get ugly.

Maybe the D's and R's can go the way of the Whigs and the Tories... and we can get 2 new parties out of the deal...

Exorcist Nita Hickok  (aug 7) said that G.W. Bush was possessed.  Yeah.  I would be possessed too if I were president and one clear blue Tuesday morning some three thousand of my fellow citizens were murdered in cold blood and left to rot under a pile of rubble.  Yep.  Possessed by revenge.
During her segment someone called in and referred to an old made for t.v. movie from the 1970's called "Psychic Killer".   George quickly came up with the year (1975) and a brief synopsis.  The guy said, "You remember it?"  George said, "...yeah."  It was obvious to me, and any monkey with a banana, that George googled it, especially since the synopsis that he gave was word for word the one you'll see if you were to google it right now.  My question is, why didn't he just tell the guy he googled it?  Nobody expects anybody to walk around with detailed knowledge of dumb movies.  There have been a few members of this forum that have accused George of lying, but, while I believe that he is many things, I don't think of him as a liar, and I'm not saying he's a liar, I was just really bugged by the whole thing, and I think the next time he comes on he should just confess that he had never seen or heard of the stupid movie and all will be forgiven.

George would prefer you believe he is a wizard.

I've heard too many untruths, distortions, and insincere comments to even listen much anymore, even if there is an interesting guest.  I don't even remember the last time I had it on for more than 10 minutes.  This is really just another in what seems to be a nightly event.

He's very insecure.  He's like the person at work that can never not know something, can never be wrong, who has to have the best ideas.

But even with Tommy sitting nearby ready to step in and help, with google up and running, his note cards, and all his other crutches, he still sucks.

And he knows he sucks.  Everyone knows it.

And glad to see ya V.

HAL 9000

Hmmm... the "V" was in red ealier tonight in my browser, but has now turn into the generic "beige" which is the usual color. So goes the goblins of forum software.

Just for the record,; not that it's necessary - I don't post much about the idiocy of The One-Neuron Snoron, or claymoremine and the like, as, quite frankly, I don't pay much attention to either or their ilk... but there are some cool people here, who are nice to converse with.

I mean really... how many different ways are there to say Snoory is an idiot? Some may argue an infinite amount - I'd argue that, though that's possible, I'd rather spend my time picking tomatoes from the garden, or watching sports/TV, or enjoying a Whopper Jr. for only 1$... or talking politics or life-matters, than enaging my brain into put-downs for Noory. I'll leave that to the rest of you!

In addition to the 2 soft pretzels with salt I just enjoyed, I now have left-over skettie with meat sauce to enjoy. I wish that brain science guy had been on tonight with Ian instead of with Snoory a few nights back. A REAL scientist with intelligent, cogent thoughts on c2c - imagine that! Ian shoulda handled that guy...

I notice that GN almost never, ever takes any time off.  He's like one of those 'company men' who never takes a vacation for fear of getting fired, let go, etc.

I'm just assuming here of course, but GN is one of those malleable people who can be molded and controlled by higher-ups.

GN would probably be a far better host if he only did this on a temporary basis--say one night a week.  At least then he'd have a whole week to prepare and get exciting about hosting one single show.

Replace him with someone like George Knapp.

Extremely perceptive my friend. In this world there are people who rise to the top because of exceptional talent and ability,  and then there are those yes men who have risen because they cause no waves, are willing to drink the corporate Kool-Aid and work holidays. At age 59, I think George would just as soon dine with celebrities at the Peninsula hotel in Beverly Hills and leave this radio gig behind him.

What people don't seem to realize is how lucrative a multi-year contract in syndicated radio is. To read dumb prepared questions off a sheet four hours a night, George Noory is making as much as some low to mid-level major league baseball players. It's not Rush Limbaugh money but a whole lot more than most people here would believe.

Well, I did buy some fat-free Thousand Island dressing the other day to put on my home-made hamburgers (MacDonalds' secret sauce)... does that count?

Quote from: hitfan on July 29, 2009, 06:38:48 PM
I used to listen to Art Bell about 10-11 years ago.  After Noory took over I thought he was OK and I actually listened religiously every night about 3 years ago when I got a job at night.

Now, I can't stand to listen to the show.  I'm not sure what happened, but if someone could locate some older episodes I'm certain that GN wasn't so bad a few years ago?

I've wondered that myself.  There is no way I'm going to put myself through listening to old Noory shows to find out.

When George first became host, I listened most nights as I had with Art.  He wasn't as good, but no one would be.  Give him slack, he'll work at getting better, right?

After a few years passed he either got considerably worse, or maybe he just never got better, never made the effort to improve, his inability to speak, his inability to hold up his end of a conversation just got more and more obvious, more and more frustrating.

I think I finally gave up on George when he had really good guests on about 3 nights in a row - all during the shows, they would say something just astonishing that begged for follow up, and George would either ask a question he had already asked, ask a question completely different from the current line of discussion, go to the phones, ask about their website, some such.  Then I found myself screaming at the radio... light bulb on... this guy sucks and it's not better.

How many people suck at their job for 5 years, then improve?  Right.

This is not meant to start a discussion of religion or homosexuality. Ian mentioned that the Bible condemns fortune-telling and that it doesn't claim that gay people will go to hell. He read the Old Testament passages that recommend capital punishment for soothesayers, but he neglected to acknowledge the passages that say that homosexuality is an abomination to God. He may assume that we all know this, but I suspect that he wanted to say nothing that would lessen the impact of his "point", which seems to follow a discernible pattern when it comes to his lectures.

Sophie

Isn't that what these christians do?  They use the old testament, to describe their new testament belief that they are no longer under the old testament laws?

Then they use the same old testament laws to smite anyone who doesn't think like they do.

It *could* be that he was referring to selective passages, but I have my doubts. My guess (it's only a guess) is that reading the other scriptures, even in this context, wouldn't be PC. Again, this isn't about OT scriptures or gay issues. It's about Ian's presentation of things (but I could be reading into things).

Well, he did also say, and has said before, that he spends 'no' time on the things in the Bible that would 'marginalize' certain people (paraphrasing here).

So I think he is saying that he selectively ignores some parts of the Bible he doesn't agree with (perhaps not all), and/or focuses on what he is interested in, or finds uplifting.

Likely most religious people of whatever faith do this to some extent - I'm happy to have him state where he stands, without making too big of a deal out of it.

I think you are correct in your observation.  I believe Ian is Anglican, not that that matters.  I don't read Latin/Hebrew/Greek/roman or any language other than English, so what it originally said or meant, I do not know.

In English, it is what it is.  This leaves it to the individual to accept or reject, or believe what someone else tells them to believe.

That's a great observation.  Ian usually irritates me and I haven't spent that much time listening to him.

I've heard him say similar things - But I think "no time" is a bit of hyperbole - since he's obviously aware they are there - and how to find them when he cares to.

But, the fact is - most of us choose - in fact we MUST choose given both biblical contradictions and certain social restraints.

We all make our choices.  Theologians just happen to be more aware of exactly what those choices are - in the context of their religious training at least.

And wrestling with those choices and interpretation is part of the Protestant tradition (due to the entire cannon being printed in the common league of the area - rather that only in church Latin.

I think he is simply acting on his own thought process, spiritual struggles, and his biases (which we all have - even within "the church")

Well EvB, I can't argue with that, but somehow want to.

It must be late, good night all.

Ian is having a really good show tonight.  I keep getting a creepy feeling George is somehow going to come on and interrupt right in the middle of an interesting point, ask about 2012 or something...

George:  'Runes?  I don't know what that is...  how do ya spell it?...  First, tell me a little about filming your show for The History Channel... was anyone famous in it with you?...'
