Had always figured Redacted's involvement stemmed from Art falling in love with her voice. Breaks can happen that way. It's what you do with them that counts.

Old Guys must think they can still work the marks. Vince McMahon tried to force Rock and Roman Reigns down our throats as "the guy" and we all responded back with "die rocky die" until Rock was ready, and "Daniel Bryan" because Reigns was green as fuck. She wasn't asking for help, she was yelling at me to take the show that night with 30 minutes notice after she had just gotten off the phone with Pete asking for his thoughts on her performance. We know how that went. She called in a rage and thought maybe I'd be dumb enough to say yes. This was just a few weeks after I stayed on the phone with her until 6am after one of her open lines fiascos and had offered nothing but help to her. I will no longer be taking her calls.

I wonder where Art is in all this?? Why would he not give her some support since he claims that she "got it" and has his full support.

It takes two qualities to create a successful new career:  a true passion for the field with the intelligence to learn it, and a freakishly uncommon unwavering level of commitment.  Heather has demonstrated these qualities, and Keith and Art are damn lucky to have her.  If she hadn't stepped in at a moment's notice the show would've gone up in smoke the day Art departed from the show.

Whenever I have the opportunity to hire new talent, I scour the earth for people like Heather, because I can shape that metal into a Samurai sword.  I always hire raw, bright, fiercely committed people because I know what they'll be capable of anything once they learn the secrets.  And it never fails; everyone I've trained is at the top of their field today, and a major asset who I can call upon when I need their help - and they come through, because that's who they are - talented, well-trained, loyal mfers.

She's growing every week despite the worst kind of adversities.  Yes it's a long-term commitment to grow a new talent into something spectacular, but it's worth it.  And it's much easier to shape a raw talent than it is to take a developed talent and try to re-shape it into a better one.  All she needs to come through the process and bring home a win for everyone involved is the same level of commitment that she's already demonstrated to her employers, and a steady, patient, talented mentor.

And frankly I'm enjoying seeing this happen; I've never heard the growth process of a radio show host before and it's fascinating and fun.  I'm more engaged now than I was before Art stepped aside.  I want to see her succeed and I know she can.  She deserves the opportunity to do that.

If she wants to step aside, then that's a different story, and I wouldn't blame her.  But if she gets forced out, then I'm done with DMDN.

Here is my answer to this firestorm frenzy:

Art get off the A and appear back on MITD to sooth it down.  Give Heather back the producer job.  Then, take a week or two and select two other hosts that could carry MITD.  Art would air one week a month.  Heather would air one week a month.  Maybe Hoagland could do double duty and go one week a month.  Select someone for the other week that would work.  I think the variety would keep interest peaked and move the show forward and kick A.

Not going to happen as he clearly does not give a shit about anyone but himself. He knew the ship would be sinking as soon as he was gone and yet fooled people into being the captain that goes down with it.
If he cared he would have done a few nights per week at least during a transitional period. He even said earlier that unannounced part time hosting would not be a issue and yet he did not even bother even calling in even when it was obvious Heather was struggling like hell. He is a selfish narcissistic bastard and has always been if you look at his past history as well as all the stories around him.
The only difference is that now we have finally woken up to his bullshit.

Who can say? I doubt it. It appears Art makes choices differently than what would be expected by many here. I say keep heather at the helm. Do not let her read any criticisms. Rather let her learn her rhythm, become comfortable controlling a conversation. I am certain something interesting would show. Maybe belgab isn't the audience.

How the fuck is that going to help?? Even if she had the skills she is a no name and would have no chance keeping the show afloat without help from someone with a name like Art.
The only way she would have had a chance is if Art HAD hosted at least a couple of nights a week to keep the time travelers, ad providers and at least some of the affiliates happy.
Without any of this there is no way the show or the network can keep going and with each day more and more people are losing their hope and canceling the subs that actually fund this show.
Art is not stupid and knew this when he left and yet lied about it and reassured everyone that everything will be alright and that he will come back to save it before it sinks.

I mean, this was a very young girl from an entirely different reality who was from one of the biggest cities in the Philippines who's now in her 30s with a kid living in the middle of nowhere desert in a different country with a 70-something year old man who's all wrapped up on a lady he met on a forum who's obsessed with him and talking about how someone is trying to kill him when he does his radio show. I'm sure everything is swell.

I haven't listened to the show since Art quit. Honestly, I have no idea if Heather is good or not, because I've yet to listen to her. But that's the thing. They want to change hosts because people quit listening. Some say they want to replace Heather because she's not good, others say because they need a man at the helm.
This should be pretty obvious.  People quit listening because it wasn't Art Bell. You can replace Heather, you can get an Art surrogate that's so manly he has to tuck his ten foot dick in his sock before the show. But it won't matter. It's not going to help the show at all. Because it's not Art. The only way to salvage whats left of this trainwreck is for Art to come back, which he won't do because he's busy cowering in the corner.

Generally, I agree. But when it comes to radio where it is 100% voice, I would say that there are people who would automatically not like a womans voice late night.  You read how many people liked Wells based completely on his voice, and how many people would complain even of hosts like Schrader and others not having a deep enough voice, (and those here, during her first co-hosting position how many outright said that they did not want a woman's voice after midnight and it felt wrong.)

Radio isn't 100% voice though, you have to take into account: experience, knowledge of the subject, personality, and the ability to hold it together when stuff starts going south too.  Wells has a great voice, but I found him to be a pretty much an intolerant person that just complains a lot, so I stopped listening to him. On Heather, I can't see why any late nighters or truckers wouldn't like an intelligent female voice, in fact I can see men preferring it, so in my opinion it has to come down to something other than just voice.

On the subject of voice, here's a lady that doesn't need to try to sound good, she just sounds good.  Just read me the phone book lady.  You don't even need to try and sound flirty. <3
