Dear Mr. Dubb,

I need your advice on hairstyling.   Like most, I haven’t had a haircut in some time now and while I stopped wearing my hair “high and tight” when I retired from the Navy I have never had to deal with hair as long as mine is now.   I am considering going to a pony tail, man bun or dreadlocks.  Which do you think would work best for me or should I just continue to stuff the overhang in my ears as I am presently doing.

Sincerely,

Confused on Coiffure

I shall, of course yield to Mr. Dubbs advice. However, I believe that Shreddie was saying that the comb-over is all the rage on the London runways (and golf courses) this season.

So, you’re happy with most US businesses being there then? You’re still for this? We’re weaklings otherwise?

I guess I’ll take your silence as a yes, I am for fascism.

As a management consulting firm McKinsey recognized early on that corporations could increase profits by shifting production to “offshore” locations where labor costs were much lower.  It then proceeded to persuade its clients to pursue such retrenchment and to facilitate those moves by cultivating relationships with foreign governments and manufacturers and acting as the go between in deal making.  Having established those relationships, which worked out very well for the foreign business entities, It then became the management consultant of choice for many of those self same foreign entities, most notably China.  It has been serving as a advisor, public relations advocate and lobbyist for China among others for a number of years now.

I don’t think McKinsey set out to strip the U.S. of its manufacturing capacity and help China become the largest and most powerful economy.  I think it just followed the money at every step which is what any business concern might do and is in fact a fiduciary responsibility of management in the case of publicly held companies.  At some point McKinsey must have realized that the outsourcing that it facilitated and its representation of foreign concerns was working to degrade the U.S. economy, but, companies like McKinsey are amoral, non ideological and entirely profit driven.  Nothing McKinsey is doing or has done is in violation of law or regulation including the contributions it makes to various campaign funds to ensure that legislation to curtail or reverse the migration of U.S. jobs overseas is not enacted.  Trump is the only one who has taken positive steps in that direction through policy revisions and executive orders and that among other things is why the Dems and their corporate partners are determined to remove him from office.  I can see why there is a lot of resentment towards McKinsey but the fault lies primarily with our politicians.
Lest I sound like a commie- and to crib from a possibly apocryphal quote- "capitalism will produce the rope to hang itself" (or something my lockdown mind failing myself after some hours in attic moving some stuff.) But I understand your comments and also tend to agree that a business's- especially a public corporation- sole duty is to profit the shareholders. But there should be morality in people and also some rules/laws in society. And since, legally, corporations are people they might also have some moral imperative? Especially if granted a charter or get some monopoly- natural or by regulatory capture (corruption.)  And I also do advocate anybody, or entity, to avoid taxes and maximize profits. Legally. But don't feed the beast, either one: government and greed.

ps: I thought one interesting point was that the short-term strategy of outsourcing, eliminating middle management,  Pareto or Welch RIF ideas, etc might not be good for long-term and, by extension, national security.  The quick profit, think quarterly is sometimes nice for the individual but not for the entire company....or country.

I will defer to K_Dubb in fashion but I think it depends on the season- or news cycle as some call it. Like the wearing of white or certain hats. Both would be appropriate depending on the date and circumstances and, Emily Post aside, are the same thing?  ;)

Dear Confused,

I beg forgiveness if I am mistaken but I believe I detect a feminine hand in your decor (candles, placemats) and I would defer in all respects to the person who has to look at you daily as your body belongs to her as you may have vowed ("with my body I thee worship").  Though it could just as easily be the fetish for homeyness common in Navy men who have lived for significant stretches in impersonal surroundings -- I have seen it before.

In the event I am mistaken, my answer would depend entirely upon the strength of your chin, which you must evaluate with a ruthless eye.  Once the chin fails, we must claw back manliness with every tonsorial trick possible so as to forestall the inevitable slide into soft obscurity and join the ubiquitous lumpy drones who, for all practical (i. e. sexual -- forgive me, but that is the entire reason for style display) purposes, might as well be pieces of furniture, invisible, non-players.  Various arrangements of facial hair (which you do not address) have been devised to shore up the sagging, and, when it comes to the coiffure, tightly shaved sides are the first resort to restore some sense of strength to the physiognomy.

If you have somehow managed to preserve your jaw, by all means let it grow.  A man should have long hair at some point in his life -- I wore it quite long for many years -- and this is the perfect time to experience the wonderful freedom of never having a set style, letting people (or, I suppose, a person if you insist) run their hands through it, play with it, do it up according to their whims or let it fall sensually around them in the heat of passion.

If, however, we are fighting a defensive action (as I have been doing for years) get out the clippers.  The simplest bowl cut which I sport (and, with quarantine, is quickly losing its neonazi association thank God -- my people have been wearing it that way for generations) is easy to achieve at home by first parting the hair on each side at the temples and shaving everything below to the desired length -- start with a 2 and work down.  I just use dog clippers which I found below the sink (the dogs -- shih tzus, which will surprise no one -- are long dead) and check the back in a three-doored medicine cabinet.  For the top, just grab fistfuls of hair and, with scissors, cut down to the length you desire, ALWAYS CUTTING AT AN ANGLE AND NEVER STRAIGHT ACROSS (forgive the emphasis but this is critical) to achieve something approximating what fine salons call "texture" or "chunkiness" -- it is amazing how forgiving hair is once you dispense with the barbershop idea that it is all supposed to be the same length.  I regret I have not progressed beyond this most basic of styles but I offer it as one well within reach at home (of course that is its origin) and still very much au courant.

You can also use this same approach -- parting at the temples on each side and clipping below -- coupled with a much longer comb on top to make something like a Julius Caesar where it is plastered down with your product of choice or, perhaps, roughed up or fllipped up at the front for a touch of insouciance.  Among my friends it is about evenly split with the more conservative opting for this style while we who want a little more style and play opting for the longer, hand-cut top.

If, however, you are blessed with curls you can get by with using clippers with a much longer comb to maintain the lower 3 inches or so of your style, relying on the natural unevenness of your hair fall to blend what, in straight hair, would be an unsightly line.  What I wouldn't give for a bit more wave right now!

I wish you the best of luck, and of taste, in your style choice and pray that I have given you, and everyone, some hope that a well-maintained coif need not be sacrificed on the altar of expediency and that we may meet this crisis in all our finery.

Yours respectfully,
K_Dubb

I wouldn’t take issue with anything you’ve said.  The line between appropriate government actions to preserve a nations  industrial capability/capacity, breakup or prevent unfair monopolies, etc., and interference with free enterprise is fine indeed.  One’s position on any such action most always depends on whether it is one’s ox that is being gored by way of the measure or someone else’s and someone is always left unhappy.

Find a local "church," steal it, and refashion their Rainbow flag into a Muslim face-covering garb. But don't burn it. This story is so wild that it must be true. Even Hollywood couldn't create such a scenario.

Dear Mr. Dubb,

Thank you so much for your valuable advice which I will adhere to as it applies.  I must express some disappointment in learning that it was most likely not my mind that attracted my wife to me but my physical appearance.  Notwithstanding, I will endeavor to carry on as best I can as a compliant sex object.

Thanks again,

OBTW, assigning labels to people works for Trump because he applies those labels aptly.  You on the other hand use labels to cover your inability to respond to reasoned argument and it always fails.  Yeah, I know--I'm a globalist fagot.
