A few opinions as someone who does a solo show once in awhile. LOL. (Oh my poor neglected show, lol) You do not need a partner to do this. And actually, personally I find working alone a much less stressful thing, especially if you have a specific vision for your show. Now I don't take callers, or any of that, but I have done my fair share of monologues and it just becomes natural after awhile. I also want to point out that Rollye has done a show solo for some unGodly amount of time and is great at it. There are other women broadcasters out there.

Success is also based on what you think is successful, and not measured by an outside source IMO. Do a consistent product and people will come. It is that simple, but even the best in the biz struggle with an internet audience and money. It takes time and patience to build up your following. Success usually doesn't happen over night. Many of us will continue to listen and promote and support your efforts, I just think front loading with a lot of expectations is a sure way to be disappointed. Do it because you love it, not because you want to make money because odds are making money at this won't happen for sometime. Best of luck to you!

^^^^^ This! ..... Permission to speak freely.... Go ahead... Thanks.

Working 'with' people is the most stressful and also the most enjoyable part of my working day.
I've learned that sometimes, I just know what is the right course to pursue, and damn the opinions, I get paid to be a leader, so folks this what we are going to do, get on board.

The isn't meant to be anything against RoseGirl, I love her voice and subjects she talks about, she really has lots of original paranormal ideas... But it was clear that Nancy was doing the heavy lifting with all the back scenes stuff to make the show happen. And of course Rose understood this too.
And of course Rose has ambitions too. Anyway it was pretty clear to me from the beginning that no matter 'the magic' Nancy and Rose made together, it wasn't going to last, because one major component, to keep them going was missing...  COMPENSATION

Last night on Bella-Haven, Lou talked with Nancy about don't discuss the money (income source)
Heck no talk about the money, without source of cash flow Bella-Haven will turn into another 'good-idea' pod cast that fades into oblivion. Get over, it isn't polite to talk about  money, It's pretty clear we all want Bella-Haven to succeed, hmmmm success, yeah that's it, lots of listeners and source of income.

Back to partnership thingie, that PonyBoy posted above and Lou talk about last night. Hang in there gentle readers this ramble will hopefully make sense.

Lou mentioned last night that Opie and Andy actually hated each other, but put thier hate aside to make their broadcast magic. Why would they do that? We all know the answer COMPENSATION.
And without it, two very creative people, each with ambitions, that have no joint 'skin in the game' to keep them together, will ultimately go their own way. Or they become individually wealthy, don't need each other anymore. Again we all know this stuff.

So to wrap it up; Nancy it's OK to talk about sources and ideas to generate income on the show.
We as listeners of Radio and members of BellGab clearly see through the Mr. Art Bell recent round of marketing BS with the roll-out of his latest show.
Started out with: It all going to free folks, because I love radio and love all you wonderful and extremely smart  Bellgabbers, and btw way could you help me out with advertising the show.
Changed to: may have to charge a subscriotion with more ads etc.
Nothing at all wrong with that! I applaud and admire his marketing skills.
Come on Art, don't play us for fools, we know you love what you do, but don't snow us that COMPENSATION wasn't  just as important to you.

So Nancy, I respect your honesty,  talk about about the money, let the listeners help you find the way to make your show profitable. ie your version of Art's skillful Biltz to encourage Bellgabbers to want to help him. Don't ever underestimate the power of awarding brownie points :)

And without COMPENSATION, no partnership is going to survive.
IMHO... PonyBoy nailed it above, go alone for now and maybe forever. Lot less stress but less joy balance thingie.

(Smiley face playing around while waiting in dentist office being a forum brain surgeon, and wondering if that damn reptilian dentist is going to chip me sumofbitches)

Edit: more forum brain surgeon crap. Nancy has ambitions to build a paranormal network, there are some smart people on BellGab, that can get in on the ground floor and help her make that happen and live happily ever after and never have to worry about diaper money again.

Thanks White Crow. Just some food for thought. Not saying it to be mean to anyone, just saying that might help. I wish all parties involved well.

I am so glad you got some positive work done while waiting for the dentist. I really appreciate the time you've taken to think this out. Since the only true costs for this show are minimal, I can keep it free for a long time with no negative repercussions.

I love the whole thing and I'm aiming for a fun show with no reasonable stone unturned as we explore Art Bell's topics and guests and callers. I will start to give out the phone number more often and (cough) announce at the beginning that this is not a show with a formal guest.

It isn't laziness on my part -- getting a guest would actually make it easier, but then it wouldn't be an after-show any more. So far, the callers to the show haven't been shy and have given us lots to think about and look up and research.

If the calls stack up, I'll try to move them along quicker ... but sometimes in the middle of the night that's not necessary. Without commercials and breaks, this is an unwieldy show to some, but I think we should welcome the chance to truly go long-form and break some rules.

Going on instinct here. Hope you didn't get chipped and that you're able to have a nap to sleep off any meds and can call in tonight. Or, call in with meds in your system ... we accept all thought-modes.

Good Morning brig,

I see where I may be able to offer some advice and insight so here goes. If I was not on the east coast I would have called into the show by now but I sleep then as I have a day job. I think we all enjoy interacting and I think an after Art Bell show is an excellent idea. This forum introduced me to my mentor, inspired my novel, and countless other unmentionable things. LOL So I try to give back when I can.

Belle-Haven lacked balance in my opinion. Two strong personalities with two very different ideas. That is tricky for any partnership of any kind. But creatively it usually results in a power struggle and ultimately a break up of whatever was going on. Being a public figure is never easy, your whole life will be on display and people are going to judge you. Happiness must come from within and if a new co-host is what the show is looking for find someone who is on board with the original vision. Otherwise it will happen all over again.

In the meantime I suggest that Nancy stays solo and learns all she can that way she is relying on herself, and not others, and then she knows that no matter who she adds or who she takes away she can handle whatever comes her way.

Thank you , PBS. You have been on this path for a long time, and you do know the bumps and brambles along the way. Our drama these last few days is now over, I hope, and I will continue to look through the chat and my rolodex and this forum for more people who want to stay up late and talk.

Of course, you are one of those people, except for the terrible crutch of needing sleep and stuff.

Good morning, I have had my first coffee an hour ago and will be drinking a second cup as I listen to the show.

I had an inkling to try to get back to my day schedule ... (sleep at night!) and I'm glad I did as I got a call at 5:07 that my day person isn't coming in ... so I had to jump up, get ready, drive the 30 miles and now get to sit here for 12 hours ... but I have much to listen to ... yay, I don't mind having to monitor for such long hours now-a-days!!!!

I kept waking up but made myself go back to sleep, except for my 3:00 a.m. restroom  break ... I checked into Bella-Haven ... listened for a few minutes and also -- went into chat.  OMG, I thought I was in the boiling pot of sewage ... I tried to find JC or Edna ... sigh, chat gave me creeps, trolls and mean mean mean folks ... there is really a need for a moderator (IMHO) -- different opinions, cool ... vulgarity and put-downs, NOT cool!

From another East Coast owl ... changing your sleep schedule is not trivial if you care about your health. On the other hand, actually creating a show in the dead hours of the night makes me fell as if I'm working two shifts. Self-employed. Satisfying.

But the chat was really really horrible last night. I read every word after the show, and there was pretty much nothing to cut-and-paste and talk about tonight. Just creepy new people saying pretty horrible things.

I have to learn the codes to bounce 'em out. That's my task for tonight. If I make a mistake and nuke a fine person who is just being frisky, I apologize in advance. I will even find that person and make it right. But if your IQ is too low for the room, you really need to go sailing out the door.

The time has come the walrus said to speak of many things
Of night time shows and no cohost
And fairies on the wing......

Ok good thoughts all around. I wish sometimes I was better with the prose. It's time however to put things behind you Nancy. Good show last night, keep it good, make it better. Make it how you wanted it all along, with or without a co-host. We will be listening come Bella-Haven or  high water!

So say we all?

This is not meant to be a joke. Nancy, you must bring in George Senda as a co-host. I'd love to hear you both talk about anything and everything! I'd pay good money to hear that show and I don't think I'm alone. Ratings blockbuster!

I'll SECOND THAT!!!!!

Thanks, brig. And remember -- all you have to do to call in is to dial 215 488-7374. On a cel phone, via Skype, and/or land-line. It all works, but the headset works even better.

If the phone call sounds funky, we try to deal with it. Most sound great, but phone/internet tech is always improving ... so let's treasure those old-timey sounds as long as we can make them.

Love the Bella Button! It's pink! I have some nice ideas for where to place it and how to make it tickle our imaginations.

If I'm awake, I'll call in on skype on my PC Nance, with or without headphones.  My headphones are supposed to be here on or before the 14th. But if you're willing to do without the headphones, if I call in before they arrive, then call in on skype on my pc with my pc mic I will DO :D  If you could post me a 400 by 400 ish  jpg of any picture you would like made into a button, I will do so and post it back here for you Nancy.

To remove any doubt PonyBoy,  IMHOyour post was very helpful, I've had the same though as you, help confirmed to Nancy that it's ok to try to make it going alone.

I encourage all BellGabbers to call in to Bella-Haven, and especially you, PonyBoy. I heard you on Bella-Haven and your podcast. You're fun to listen to!

And Popple, get over the shyness thingie, someone that make all those funny comments on BellGab has to have something interesting to share.

And yes you too, RoseGirl maybe do a set up call to give Nancy a heads up on the subject matter you like to talk about. You got some wonderful paranormal new material.

Oh yeah.... Brig, take a nap and stay up and call in, you got the pulse of Bellgab, and lots of worldly stuff you know about.

Hmmmm and that meek and mild Ms Readacted... Aka Heather, give us the goods on what Art is really like :).  Btw pictures! I want my fan pictures.
(smiley face is your number one creepy fan)

Another long Hmmmmmmmmmmm. See the pattern here, gentle readers, above all have something in common.

When i was in flight school a few moons ago, our Senior Tach CW4 Poplvitch, the God Pappy, was a Farrah freak! His office was chock full of posters, barbie dolls and even some signed pics. Every class would try to get him something new. Got harder every year lol.

If George can stay away from talking about himself and if his distractors are respectful, it could be fun. Those are some big ifs ..but after all is said, George does know a lot about paranormal. And Nancy always has control of the phone lines if things get out of hand ;)

Anyone remember back on Art's old C2C show and he had a weird people call in line.
One guy collected finger and toe nail clipping of famous people?

I'd like to get me some "Jeannie" belly button lint.

Ok ok I know that's pretty weird, but if Ms Redacted isn't going to send me a fan picture, I'd settle for some belly button lint :-*

There is no bad blood between Nancy and George. Maybe someone can get him to call in and see how it goes. Yes, George knows his paranormal. I mean this in a very good way: Nancy and George would be the best radio odd couple ever. Nancy will keep George in line. George will keep Nancy in line. Maybe.  ;)  I'd really like to hear them discuss Art, the paranormal and current events.
