The military has probably literally had a golden lasso to tie people up with and force them to tell the truth since the fifties. All that bullshit about "we just can't develop a reliable truth serum" and "we just can't reliably tell when a person is telling the truth or not" is just that--bullshit.

Announcing to the whole damn world (i.e. "the public") that these technologies truly exist would drastically reduce their effectiveness. So you get this old saw trotted out every once in a while, "oh, getting at the truth is an insoluble technical challenge! We'll never know who killed Kennedy!"

Bullshit. Also, to say nothing of how widespread practice and employment of these skills amongst the populace would destroy certain industries--say, gambling.

Are we sure it was a person who banned every single person in chat?  To me, it seems that somehow a setting got set that globally kicked out anyone entering chat.  Perhaps the top guru administrator will be able to get in and look over the settings.
