There have been dubious attempts at intervening to change the sexual orientation of certain threads, but this has mostly been written off as quackery.

This thread needs an intervention, as does the subject of the photo posted by the BobGrau.

This thread has just been molested by the truth. I hope we didn't contract anything!

Has anybody heard anything (?!) about Art lately? Airyn had a Facebook page for awhile, but that's gone now. I check FantasticnForum and here, but all is strangely quiet. Is he back in Parumph?
I'd give a lot to hear his voice again. I've about memorized every show that streams....
I refuse to tune in to Noory. Knapp, yes.

Art is back in Parumph, and preparing to tear Premiere a new asshole for running Somewhere in Time shows without his approval.

Right, Art?

RIGHT?!

sherry440

A lawsuit seems probable, however I don't see why he'd mind letting us have our "fix"...thank god for fine art stream.
But.....do we know if Airyn and Asia are there, too? I mean, I remember Art making the cryptic comment, "never make big contractual decisions (like marriage) when you're grieving," not to mention Airyn getting bored with an old guy day in day out. I wonder if she remains the devoted wife....

Holey moley. I'd really not considered this possibility. Taking it from a purely cynical perspective, AB would certainly seem to be a fantastic target for a gold digger*. He's almost certainly rich as Croesus now, with his buyout and his radio stations forming merely the publicly known portion of his assets. In America that would ordinarily make him a big fat divorce target for a cynical gold digger. But there are issues which might mean he's not such a great target after all.

First, as I recall the Philippines do not recognize divorce...at all (except for Muslims). So a divorce would have to be obtained in the US, which means residence requirements would have to be met...which might explain why Art has moved back to Pahrump. NM requires that one spouse live for at least 6 months immediately before the filing of the divorce petition there. Hmmm. Curiouser and curiouser. So when did Art movie back to Pahrump? MV? Do you have anything to add?

Then there's the fact Art probably already had amassed the vast majority of his estate before marrying Airyn. This is important only because for division of the marriage estate, ordinarily courts look only at what the couple has amassed since the marriage. Also alimony is affected by the relative shortness of the marriage. This generally militates against alimony for the wife. But child support is a completely separate issue, and there is no limitation on when the father got his assets: they're all used to calculate how much child support is. Usually there's a mathematical formula to determine how much the child support is, but roughly it's the more the father has, the more the support payments are. And ofr wealthy parties, special conditions often apply.

Then there's the unknown of details of any prenuptial agreement. Surely, surely Art insisted (and maybe Airyn's parents as well) on a pre-nup. But people have been fools about "true love" before, and don't do pre-nups. This is because pre-nups can easily come off as cynical and cold, as it seems the party proposing it expects the marriage to fail. So maybe there is none. But does Art really seem like the kind of guy who let's his heart overrule his head about financial matters?

~sarcasm mode on~ This opens up entire new vistas for voyeuristic obsession with Art's personal life. ~sarcasm mode off~ It's important not to get carried away and start an avalanche of pointless speculation. But I can at least silently contemplate the possibilities, potentialities and eventualities.

*I posit this for argument's sake only: as far as I know Airyn is the world's most devoted and loving wife, and she and Art are ecstatically happy, and destined for a very long life together.

ChewMouse

Wasn't it determined that the "liver cancer scare" was actually Airyn's father? Perhaps she went back to her family to help care for him...?

coaster

Anyone who meets a woman through the internet and plans on marrying her is a fool if they don't make them sign a pre-nup imo.

... But then Art was seeking female companions on the internet apparently within days of Ramona's death on Jan. 5, 2006. And he was apparently already thinking about marrying Airyn and moving to the Philippines within 3-4 weeks of Ramona's death (Art told C2C listeners in late January, 20006 that he was on the verge of a huge life change). And by mid-April 2006 he reported he was already married to Airyn, so who knows when it actually happened. That's not behavior I would call deliberate, responsible or mature, regardless of how much he thinks he loves Airyn. Nor is it financially astute. So maybe there is no pre-nup.

I remember Art saying in there somewhere that there is no divorce in the Phillipines and 'that is just fine with me'

You guys are really reaching for gossip here and I hate to endanger the longevity of this thread, but I have personal knowledge that the ABs are firmly ensconced in their little piece of heaven in Pahrump, Nevada.  Actually, right as of this moment they're enjoying a little trip to the Grand Canyon.

Sorry to disappoint.  :)

I'm truly not disappointed. Like I said, that was nothing more than scenario-noodling. But I felt so uncomfortable about even that that I just removed the that entire post. Nothing would please me more for the Art Bell's to have many, many years of domestic tranquility.

There isn't...but there is in the US, which is where any American citizen can get a divorce, even if they married in the Philippines.

Oh, noooo. I will so miss Art Bell's frequent visits and lengthy, informative posts.

Leverage. I suspect that all Art Bell was trying to get when he -- or someone else representing him -- wrote on his Facebook page that he will tell the "real" story of his "retirement." Note Mr. Bell has never followed up on that claim. I suspect it had something to do with his royalty checks for "Somewhere In Time."

Perhaps that ploy worked. I, for one, don't expect him to follow up on that claim. He perhaps got what he wanted. Mr. Bell is retired, has a real life away from talk radio and removed from "Coast." That won't change, As long as the residual payments keep coming in through direct deposit, he won't be that outspoken against "Coast" or George Noory. He knows better, I'm sure.

"West of the Rockies, you're on the air. Hello? Going once, going twice...Gone! Wild-card line, you're on the air..."

You get the point, all.

Well, if we can't hear him live....we can at least wonder. I still wonder why Airyn and/or Art couldn't at least leave a FB page up with an update now & then.

Whether Art is gone for now or gone for good - I could see him hosting something on the local Pahrump station KNYE that he used to own like he did with Ramona years ago - but I think it's obvious that his days as a nightly host of a nationally syndicated show are over for good.
In a way, it's too bad, because he could certainly resurrect the dwindling enterprise that C2C has become over the past several years, and it would be nice to be able to give those Noory fans a little perspective on how the show was and should've stayed. Then again, it's a good thing, because honestly who really gives a crap what those people think anyway. Just like the sequel never really tops the original, and just like a band's reunion is never as exciting as their first run, I'd prefer the life chapters that included my memories of the nightly ritual that was listening to Art - from 92 to 01 (minus the complete trainwreck that was Mike Siegel), and then his weekend and fill-in shows from 02 to 10 (minus the conspiracy and right wing buffoon Noory either became or always was), to remain closed.
And I always believed C2C died a long time ago anyway. Either on NYE of 00-01 when Art and Ramona signed off together, or a much slower death, when he left for the Philippines. As long as the dude is happy, I'm just thankful for the years of entertainment he gave me. Back when AM radio, actually radio in general, still meant something.

Nice post. Well done.

Maybe Art is tired of being a celebrity and just wants to be normal. I mean, who would want to deal with most of the doofuses on this site anyways....?  ;)

I know I wouldn't. I mean, seriously, what kind of person would ghoulishly spend time discussing the circumstances and timing of a couple's decision to wed vis a' vis ramifications of a separation/divorce?.....Oh, wait.

A quote from "Pawn Stars" Old Man...... "Facebook sounds like a pain in the a$$."  Maybe Art's feeling the same way, lately.  ;)
