Maybe it wasn't George that Art blamed for what the show has become. Just guessing, but could it be that George has just given up to what the network has told him to do? That might also be why he doesn't seem that interested when he does the show, just coming in for the paycheck, etc. That would also explain why Art is still talking with Noory. After all, how much power do you really think Noory has as far as what is said on the show, or what the format will be? He doesn't strike me as being the most creative or insightful personality, or one that would win any fight with a network executive. I seem to recall Art talking about that years ago in a Ham radio conversation that someone posted. Anyone remember that?

MikeJ

Maybe Art quit because no one uses land lines anymore?

jazmunda

I didn't personally hear Noory's comments but there is no way he had that conversation given Art recent comments.

I do remember that. In that same conversation, Art stated that noory was making a mistake by doing the show from Los Angeles. "Too much politics" was the quote, and if memory serves, Art also indicated it was easier to stand his ground from the desert. Control over show content was another point. Sound about right?

MV, I don't know when that was made, but that's a great pic of Art. That might be my fave.

yeah, when i put together that youtube video, i picked the first decent pic of art from google images, and there it is.

In the town and county I live in the school system has managed to justify giving each voting district a board of education and each chairman has a salery in excess of $150k.They are always building new schools  and just abandoning old school buildings.Always trying to float a bond issue or a sales tax or raising car tag tax fees. They pull a special election here and the apathetic turnout allows them to get it through by the organizational activity mode.
When I was in college I could not stand the 'education' courses I was required for certification. They were like taking seconal.I ended up not being a teacher.
There were the two teacher unions very strong on recruting members in the late 60's.I went to a few parties. One party there was a woman ,a psychology education major came up to me .She was smoking a cigar the size of a 'churhill' and I was smoking a cigararette.Out of the clear blue ,she tells me my smoking a cig. was because I missed being breast-fed as an infant.I asked her what her cigar signified. Short time later I was escorted out. They could dish it but ......

There isn't a government entity anywhere in the US that has a shortage of money coming in. The shortages is common sense in place of bad judgement, honesty in place of corruption, and bravery in place of cowardice.

Please can you lucky people on Art's friend list post up all his doings here?

So that I can.....spy on him...

:D

I would love to be able to give myself false hope of his return to the mic too!

You got it.  I imagine his conversation with them was quick:

Art: I want you stop airing my old shows.

PRN:  No sweat, Art.  We noticed you cashed our check, though.  We're gonna need that money back.

Art: Oh. (Click)

LOL  ;D

I'm glad SIT is still on.  However I have over 60 gigs of classic Art Bell with music (not the Streamlink garbage) that I've collected from various sources over the years.  Someday I may share it with everyone, best way I can think of is through torrents.

Yes, I got most of them from Newsgroups and other Torrents.  The quality is good.  There's also some dreamland stuff and very early stuff.
Only problem is I can't keep my PC up to seed 24/7 as I share my connection with other people.  60+ gigs will take forever to seed.

I think Art wants to replace "Art Bell: Somewhere in Time" with "George Noory: Somewhere in Time".  It would be on the air once every other Sunday in Kathmandu via a 5 watt AM station.

No, it would have to be called " George Noory : Some THING in time " because so many of us say " what the fuck ? " when we hear Snoory make one of his pronouncements of stupidity.

******************

As for the teacher's unions, they are the last bastion of a failing union system. They're almost protected and inviolate. If the voters would stop approving all school bonds and if people would put together initiatives on their state ballots to approve alternate funding for teaching ( home schooling and private schools ) it would eventually break their union, which is really a guild in the old sense. The guild system is also alive and well in our universities as liberal teachers and professors teach lies to students about capitalism, wealth generation and investment. It's now done from kindergarden upwards.

It's also the fault of the parents and voters who keep electing school boards that keep these people in their jobs. I don't vote for any local incumbent anymore and I vote no to all bonds.

And the students who have either no knowledge of history ( despite being supposedly taught US history in secondary schools ) nor do they care about it.

That's why they don't question authority and vote for totally unqualified candidates like the current occupant of the White House.

No.. I refuse to use Goggle since they started begging for everyone's phone number lol.

But here's something that should get you guys going.. most of the torrent files I used to get my collection.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/yziro3

Note: I last used these last summer, not sure if they all still work.

Surmo

The link still works, the files are still there, and I am downloading now to add to my already large collection.  Thanks Ipokesmot!

Surmo

Oops, spoke too soon.  The link allowed me to download the software needed, but not the programs themselves.  I'll try again later.

Surmo

Thanks for the Stroud interview - it was eclectic, and great!

:o Not sure what problem you're having, but you need a bittorrent program.  I use an old version of uTorrent (1.8.3), because they screwed it up and bloated the newer ones.

hmmmm I just updated one of my stations to 322... might be time for a rollback.  Are you talking in just size on disk of the prog or processor/ram footprint type of thing?

Well I heard the latest uTorrent uses ads, so that's a deal breaker for me.  Plus I like the old layout better.  I always say if it aint broke, don't fix it.

Surmo

Thanks Ipokesmot, the uTorrent (1.8.3) was what I needed, and I am happily downloading now (instead of completing someone's divorce paperwork).
