This has been discussed quite a bit on the forums (see the "Art Bell Quits Coast" thread).  Art has already announced that he's not coming back to Coast or interested in launching a competing show.

Art has had a decade of people begging him to come back.  He loves the adulation.  He loves to string people along with vague comments on Facebook.  However, if he hasn't chosen to do a show prior to now, why would he do so now?  With the exception of those of us who were listeners from back in the mid-90s, most people no longer know who he is. The longer he goes, the less chance there is of him returning to do a show of any kind.  It's over.  The C2C we knew and loved is gone.  It's time to find a legitimate replacement, not to keep fawning over Art Bell.

Thunderbird: it's always nice to have new blood. And hearing from new members is particularly good because it can open up fresh perspectives.

But by my count, since you joined this board less than 3 hours and 20 posts ago, you've started 5 new topics, four of which are redundant, and of those of which 3 are presently active. Why not use the "Advanced Search" function to find earlier threads before starting a new one and thereby diluting opinion with different redundant threads? Just a housekeeping suggestion - YMMV.

I agree, inasmuch that his last show was far far from a classic.  But don't hold your breath.


Also, Sardondi's comments were wise.  Welcome aboard, but no need to create a bunch of redundant threads.

When Clydes talk show takes over the C2C slot, I believe Art will make a return. 2 hour night show opening for Ground Zero.... did I just nail the truth on the head? Damn I'm good.

         He seems more content in retirement than as a broadcaster. He couldn't even hack the emeritus role they gave him. His last stand was Halloween weekend 2010.

        Maybe if they make "I Know Who Killed Me 2" than we'll see Art again.

It's funny you mention that.  I had the same thought last night.  Even if he did come back, it would not be the same show we loved, in my opinion. Too much time has passed.  I haven't seen any evidence that Art's still interested in the subject matter.  He would be better than Noory -- a bubbling sea cucumber would be better than Noory -- but still not at the level he used to be.  His interest seemed to start declining a year or two before he left this last time.

actually Art's last few guest hosting shows weren't very good, so he was getting tired using the same guests over and over, plus probably getting out of practice and losing interest. his final ghost-to-ghost show was the worst with canned and screened callers. the days of his unscreened lines in the 90s were long gone.
perhaps the old saying "you can't go home again" is really true?

in my opinion, for the type of show art bell does, he's the most capable host ever.  i'd love him to return.  i don't care about his character flaws.  i've never listened to his show because of any assessment i've made of him in that regard.  it was just something entertaining to listen to.

Yeah, I've long thought that a returned Art could never measure up to the heroic figure he's magically become since his final retirement. We've all focused on Art's best qualities, and overlooked some of the more human aspects of his character. Consequently the real Art has sort of been forgotten, and The Legend of Art has replaced him. Art probably realizes this, and I think one of the reasons we'll never see him again is because he doesn't want to disturb the myth which has grown up.

It reminds me of the famous line in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance: "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend."

I am a longtime fight fan. I`ve seen most of the great ones since the 60`s, but nobody ever intrigued me like Ali. I recall when he made his "famous comeback" to fight Larry Holmes. I was excited; we (Ali fans) all were. Hell, if anybody could pull it off, the greatest fighter of all time, could. Well, he couldn`t, as it turned out. He should have remained in retirement.

Let the legend bask in his glory. Art served his fans well. He fought the good fight. He made us all very happy. HE now deserves a long, pleasurable journey into the sunset. Of course that does not preclude us from  beckoning to him from the ether. He will be gracious, and enjoy the "what if" banter, but anything Art does at this point will be unfairly compared to his legendary days of old. And Art is far too wise to challenge a legend.

I agree, and thinking about it, I have to say I just don't think I could (were it plausible for him to return) get on the Art Bell Wagon again. Too much drama, too much water under the bridge. It's addressed elsewhere that even one's belief in the paranormal can be wrung-out after all these years.

In short, I don't think Art Bell has anything to say that I, personally, want to hear. (Except for the details of his "retirements", I could listen to that. But no more 4- and 5-hour radio shows.)
