Maybe it's time to start a thread questioning whether Art has beginning stage Alzheimer's.  It's the only honorable excuse I can think of for him in this situation, and it would surely explain a lot of odd behavior.

Stay tuned ...  :(
nah.  he's just a 67 year old man trying to navigate facebook on an iphone.  It was just frustrating for us because we give a shit.  Sucks about his father in law, though.  And I don't think Art did this on purpose for attention or anything like that.  If he did, I'd have lost all respect for him.  I don't think he did.

ziznak

Art Bell is an iphone user?? He's gone down a rung for me dang!

Nick el Ass

Art is not only battling his so called "smart phone," but a buggy facebook page too. After he posted the message about having cancer the comments were coming in fast with cures. Try hemp oil like Tommy Chong did, hehe. Once they found out it wasn't about Art they were relieved... most had nothing to share about his father in law. Poor guy. I assumed he got hacked when it came up.

I agree. We devotw so much time to art and read into things too much.

Fly By Night

I love Art, but it took a bit long for him to do a rebuttal posting considering he had about 330+ cancer cure postings about HIS cancer, and then a phone call from Whitley, then more posts on his FB page and finally AWHILE later he posted he did not have cancer. 67 is not that old and he is a very tech savvy guy. Art is art, he loves attention.

... Instead of being grateful that Art is well, you make a tasteless Alzheimer's joke. ...

Creeper, it says a lot about you that you think I was kidding about Alzheimer's.  I'm the same age as Art, and I have a loved one with Alzheimer's.

Grow up.  The world is full of tragedy, and not everyone is making tasteless jokes about it.  Look before you leap next time.

Okies, someone posted a couple of music videos before. There are 2 other songs Art used as bumper music all the time, but I don't know the titles.
One was sung but what sounded like a old Husband/wife lounge act in Vegas that had the words, "White bird must Fly or she will die"

"White Bird" by the group It's a Beautiful Day.  Real live San Francisco Hippies, not lounge singers.

My prayers for Art's family regardless of who is sick.

Lounge singers... Now reading that depressed the hell out of me and made me feel old...and I was born 6 years after that song was released. :(

Murder101

I'm listening to a random show  and it's a George Knapp show and the topic is "The Tricksters" but at the start Art calls in and updates people on his family after a storm in the Philippines. I'm guessing it was in 06 since he's now back in the states. But my point is that was a nice little random surprise.

Glad I missed the drama.  :(

As it happens, Art Bell was on CoastGab last night at 7 p.m. He would've really gotten an eyeful if he read this thread, and I hope he did read it.

and that's all I have to say about that

Ben Shockley

Has Art ever said if he quit or finished high school early?

Because if he didn't do that, I just caught him distorting his military résumé.  (Sources say:  "Not The First Time")

On the 27 Dec 2002 show, now playing on fineartstream, Art just told RCH that during the Cuban Missile Crisis of Oct 1962, Art was answering phones in some Air Force office and got the grave news and thought we were going to war.

In Oct 1962, Art (born June 1945) would have been 17 years old and that for only 4 months.   Even if he had joined the Air Force with parental permission the day he turned 17, he couldn't have even been out of his job training (what we called AIT in the Army) and would have been in school/ training all day, on a training base, not assigned to any command center and certainly not on a SAC or TAC base, where units would be getting "alerts" --that is, serious info about "going to war."
If he joined the AF upon turning 17, he theoretically could have been on a detail in his training company's orderly room (though that is rare; trainees are supposed to be in training).   Even in regular units, lowest-grade enlisted guys are basically never in a position to answer the phone, but I won't push that point.   That a trainee would be given solid info over the phone on anything related to war or an alert is inconceivable, i.e., BS.   If he was there, sure-- he could have heard some telephonic scuttlebutt, or got a unit briefing along with every other trainee, or even heard some media news.   But Art sure inflated that into something a little more-important sounding -- "working the phones at command central," that kind of thing.

Remember "time compression?"  Maybe Art compressed "AF basic training" with "working as a police dispatcher."   That's it!!

MV/Liberace!

your math on art's age in oct. 1962 seems correct.  perhaps art is mixing one memory up with another?  who knows.

Eddie Coyle

Hmmm, October '62? There goes my theory...

I always figured Art was part of "Project 100,000".  ;D

I don't usually look to see who is on, but I did catch his name.  How can you miss a legend?

From his Facebook:

"I am just about ready to tell the real story of my so called "Retirements" I have asked Premiere to stop the Saturday Broadcasts and thus far they have not done so as is there legal right. Free speech remains my right, I will soon exercise it."

Just saw this too. The big question is in what forum will he tell this narrative?

that is so poorly written.  do you think art is dictating this stuff to his wife?

ziznak

I could hear him saying those words... I think it would be awesome if he told his story via audio or video on youtube or something.

MV/Liberace!

regardless of art's grammar and/or punctuation, i really want to know wtf is going on.

very interesting.
art should write another book and make a real tell all.
maybe he should write an additional section to his auto-biography The Art of Talk for a new edition that covers the last 10 years including the retirements...

ziznak

wouldnt it be awesome if he verbally assaulted snoore-boy!!

Eddie Coyle

He's on a bit of a melodramatic run here. From last weeks visit with death's door to spilling the beans on the Premiere's collection of dunces in the near future.

My unsolicited unprediction: We'll know no more or less about Art on August 20, 2015 than we do today. Candor ain't coming down the pike anyday soon.

He may well be dictating, but the content is pure Art Bell: start drama, pause, pause, pause, pause and then when everyone looks away, say again that we must all stay tuned in for the real news. He's bored, he's a has-been and he just cannot resist the slightest bit of limelight that he might command. It's always these "I'm going to tell--" or "Soon I will explain--" messages, he never just posts whatever it is. He has to set his stage.

With the liver cancer thing, I knew that if he logged onto CoastGab within 48 hours of the whole debacle, he knew what he'd done. And sure enough, he showed up here to view the fallout, which was not entirely complimentary.

So now he starts the whole thing up again.

I was a die-hard Art Bell fan for so long. I have the mugs, the t-shirt, the books and the archived shows. But this just wears me out. I'm not even angry. Yeah, I want to read/hear his story.

But I no longer really truly give a damn.

You've hit the nail on the head. And I always feel the need to point out that he left the full time gig 10 years ago this October. And gave us Noory.

ziznak

I don't mind the build-up as long as he actually delivers something that's worth it.  The decade length of time since his last departure is interesting.  Normally aren't non-compete's for 5 years?  Maybe there was some clause that he agreed not to speak out about certain issues for ten years or something?  Regardless, he seems to have some shit he wants to say and I'm all about listening... you guys can be all butt hurt about it if ya want but I think we all really wanna see what he's building up to.

Larkin

If he truly felt for his fans, he'd at least start up a once-a-week online "radio show",.... just to appease us and keep his toe in The Pond of Fame.  It would keep him in the swim of things, but not take up a lot of his time or resources.  I'm still very surprised he hasn't done that, as he still seems to crave the limelight, at least sometimes.

Are there legal reasons that he can't have a little online radio show?  Y'know,... like Darkness Radio only better?

[And I agree with Ziznak:  I still am interested in him and want to hear what he has to say.]

he really doesn't owe his fans anything. He could probably quit being such a dramatic attention seeker though. It is getting quite annoying with all the "stay tuned" bs..

In light of the "news" in the other Art Bell thread this thread may need to be renamed "Art Bell Fired from Coast". Just saying. :)
