Most of us tend to think of Art as a paranormal guy, but I heard a repeat show last night that reminded me just how entertaining and comical Art could be in talking about everyday life.

Art opened a special "date from Hell" line and asked callers to relate dating horror stories.  He had me laughing out load with his quips to the callers.  The funniest of the lot was from a young woman who claimed to be a centerfold model.  Her story involved an evening spent with a man who was apparently very flexible and was able to.........that's when Art pulled the plug on the call, but not before milking the story for all it was worth.  His comments and questions during her call were as funny as any stand-up routine.

I started going gray around 18 and it's pretty much white now. It sucks, it ages you about ten years or so, and I'd love to be able to get away with dying it, but it's a pretty douchey thing to do for a guy.

I can see an actor doing it for a role. Other than that? No. Especially if you try to deny it.

I knew someone like that. He dyed it in HS and some in college but, guess what, after a few years he said forget it. And just let his hair naturally gray. My theory is that it actually gave him an edge later after graduation. Sitting in a meeting with him and the other young guys people immediately think he is senior, more experienced etc. Looks don't matter, as much, for me but put a guy in a suit, trimmed hair, fit, but graying hair and immediately people think you're older and so, by extension, more experienced in the company and industry.

Fringe-culture historian and publisher of The Excluded Middle, Greg Bishop, shared the story of a government authorized campaign of disinformation that defined an era of alien paranoia and destroyed the life of the late Paul Bennewitz.

According to Bishop's account, Bennewitz detected strange lights and radio signals coming from Kirtland Air Force Base outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. An electrical physicist and pilot, Bennewitz believed he had stumbled upon alien communications, possibly the beginning signs of an extraterrestrial invasion. Alarmed by his findings, Bennewitz contacted the military and other government agencies, Bishop said.

Enter counter-intelligence officer Richard Doty, a surprise guest who joined the discussion with Art and Bishop. Doty contends that Bennewitz was close to uncovering top military secrets, so the government began a disinformation campaign against him to keep him believing the signals and lights were of alien origin. Bennewitz eventually ended up in mental institution for several months, a tragedy for which Doty feels some remorse.

Doty also claims to have personally fed lies and disinformation to frequent Coast guest Linda Moulton Howe, while she was working on a UFO special for HBO. Among Doty's other startling revelations during the program were that Roswell actually happened (he's seen the briefing film), a living alien was recovered, and the government was involved in cattle mutilations.

Hi all.  Just want to say that I'm a huge Art Bell crazy ass fan.  I was wrecked to see him go, again, but I have a couple of points of view that I believe are true about this very missed radio guy.  One, I feel certain there is more to this story and likely not anything that might ever be divulged.  It serves him best to say as little as possible, I saw that when I removed emotions.  And if there isn't more, it still serves him well to be very quiet.  That's it.  Nothing profound, just business.

My second point is my avatar pic.  I can't believe for a second this man cares about ANYTHING more than the beings in that shot.  Who would care more for anything else if you had that family and love.  While I believe Art loves and cares about many things, like being on the air, I believe it was always his home life that took precedence.  Maybe past mistakes he's made like all of us, have come to be what defines his thoughts, feelings and decisions.  He probably doesn't want to bring any discourse into his life if it might affect the home-front even an inkling.

So as Art Bell fans yourself, you've gotta know that this man does not care for anything that might affect his truest love.  He's been a radio host for just a portion of his life.  I don't believe that portion would ever trump the parts of his life he holds dear and Private.  That's the part we can miss as hard-core fanatics.

So, Mucho Love to Art and his family and I've got lots of things crossed.
