Art Bell

I agree Sir. They will fire off the first salvo's if that kinda stuff gets started. And I totally expect them to do it too. There's a shitload of money out there, even in Noory's little niche.

The writer is being a writer, and states his opinion/perception. Ultimately I think it is a piece that vindicates Art far more than it buries him.

Read it again.

morphiaflow

I've read it more than once and I stand by it. I don't agree with everything the writer says, I know some of it is not very flattering, but overall I think it's a decent overview and assessment. Maybe you should get a thicker skin?

oh I don't think anyone wishes actual physical harm upon GN or anyone else involved with PRN or C2C. I certainly took demise in a metaphorical, on-the-job sense. I don't wish harm on anyone, and even if I did--GN is guilty of bad radio, but I hope no one thinks that's a reason for anything truly bad to happen to him! (I feel this ground has been covered in the past when people have gotten really vitriolic in their anti-GN sentiments.)

You are correct. I did not mean demise in the physical sense.

I'm sure Snorge would be thrilled to record his renditions of Elvis or Sinatra tunes to be used as the intro and closing numbers.  ::)

Noory should always start of his show with his rendition of Elvis, play nothing but Frankie during the breaks, and end with UFO Phil.   That captures Jorch "perfectly."  :P

@Laura: Perhaps had I prefaced it with "This article is not written from the point of view of a diehard fan or true believer, but rather a cynical mainstream listener who says some less than flattering things, but still makes a number of good points and is worth reading"--people wouldn't be up in arms about this. Apparently a number of people on FB are pissed about it as well. I'm not even the OP, and certainly not the author. But I still would think and assuming folks here are smart and thick-skinned enough to understand that not everyone reveres Art like we do, and that even so they can make valid points.

Look, I am not going to fight with you about it but the fact is the article contains a lot of insults and inaccuracies about Art which DO NOT belong here. Seems like you are more a fan of this hack writer than a fan of Art's, and that is all I am going to say on the matter.

morphiaflow

I don't know the writer, I've never heard of him before, and I've made it clear that I don't agree with everything in the article. And you are welcome to check out my profile, see how long I've been part of this site, my posting history and exactly how much of a fan I am of Art's.

But I've never seen or heard your name before today; according to YOUR userpage, you've been here less than a year during which you've posted 5 times, most of them today and on this subject. not that that should be a litmus test, of course. You're a lurker? Fine. You're a fan of Art's? Great. You were moved to respond to what I posted because you took it differently than I did? Good for you.

But I'm not going to be accused of either misreading something, NOR of not really being a fan of Art's, by someone who, forgive me for saying it, has no discernible track record whatsoever. It strikes me that you're just trolling for an argument, even if you say you're not, and that's not something I'm interested in. I don't provoke. But I will defend myself.

If you can't take my words at face value, I'm sorry, but that's not my problem. Enjoy lurkerdom.

This was posted by someone on the "Quits" thread, but it absolutely bears repeating here. Thanks to the OP--this is one of the most brilliant and succinct summations of Art Bell's history and appeal as well as the current state of C2C and radio in general. (Not THE General.)

Heh...  captured a bit of the REAL show's vibe.

There is also a huge amount of bullshit and insults directed at Art and his c2c show. The writer of this piece is a hack and Art would be furious if he saw it.

Only if he takes himself too seriously, which I don't think he does.  I don't see why we need to put Art OR the show on a pedestal.  The show is kitschy entertainment, not  meant to be high art. The writer's comments on Noory are also valuable as insight into what happens when something becomes too corporate.

At least I'm not a stalker.  BTW, your long posts are boring.

morphiaflow

So checking out someone who's criticizing me and making accusations against me in a public forum, by looking at their publicly available information, makes me a stalker? OK, sure, let's go with that.

Using that information to defeat them at their own game--for example, letting MJ on the "People Who Miss Art Bell" forum know what you've said about her, while you're posting publicly on HER group? OK, sure, that MUST make me a stalker. (Incidentally, I only did that because I happened to see that you'd posted there, and it seemed clear that you were just determined to stir things up and make a mountain out of a molehill about this issue, no matter how many mea culpas I may issue--and yes, I said much the same thing over there).

As for my long posts being boring? Well, you know, you don't have to read them; we're not all blessed with ADD. I'm not exactly known for my brevity, but I've had plenty of positive feedback from other users of this forum in the last three-plus years, enough that I can withstand a few barbs from a bitter lurker who lives to stir the pot. Well, I hope you've enjoyed today's game.

CampsieNP

Just think,,,,,we soon could be listening to a NEW, LIVE Art Bell radio show....Wouldn't that be the best? :D !!
Please come back Art. We miss you very much. :'(

I thought the article was more of a commentary on the type of listener this writer believe's Art to have, rather than a jab at Art himself...

Indeed, that too. But Laura here was really only interested in creating drama, of which her subsequent accusations of me stalking and harassing her here and on FB, ultimately for disagreeing with her in a public forum, are plenty of proof. She's threatened to report me on Facebook for those things. Good for her. Everything I have said has been in public. Some people just don't lose well.

I agree with P*B in the sense that Art is a true professional and will not be inclined to speak ill of another radio host. However, there's no question Art would enjoy beating Noory in a head-to-head ratings comparison.

And to put the matter to bed (Laura are you paying attention?)...my private message to--and FROM--Art, followed by his public comment in the "People Who Miss" thread...

       7:21pmMatthew YenkalaHello Art,
I know you're busy so I'll make this quick, and I do not expect a reply. I posted, here on your page as well as on Coastgab, a link to an article (actually someone else on Coastgab posted it first) about your potential return and a bit of the author's opinions about your show in the past. I felt the piece, while written from the point of someone who's not exactly a fan or true believer, was still of interest and a pretty decent summary of how Coast was perceived in the 90s and where it's at now. That said, after taking flak from several others for posting it, I have subsequently deleted it, and I apologize if the content of the article (which I didn't write, I merely posted it) was in any way offensive or insulting to you.
    All my best,
    Matthew Yenkala

Clearly it's RCH dressed in Mrs Bell's clothing doing a Phil Hendrie imitation while talking on the phone to Fort Rock!

I'd still take that over Noory. Even the Fort Rock part(shudders at thought...careful what I wish for)

Disheartened

I read the article earlier and i don't understand why so many got upset over it. I think it was a pretty good summary of what the show was and what it is now from the perspective of someone who is not a total fanatic.

The last paragraph suggests that maybe Art's return is what radio really needs right now. That sure doesn't read as an insult.

morphiaflow

I let trolls get the better of me, something that happens on occasion. The article WASN'T that bad. A few people just wanted to make something of it and I fell for it. It happens. But Art says all is well, and that's enough for me.

Eddie, as for Fort...well, if Art manages to snag Knapp and/or Ian for his new show...I imagine Douglas will be first in line for the extra hosting slots! Assuming JBW doesn't just get them since he's clearly being groomed as the next Noory. (Shudder.) I'd take Fort over JBW, for sure.

The idea of a decapitation strike on C2C is very enticing. Brain drain as Ian and Knapp jump off the Titanic/Hindenburg of radio and join Art in this venture. It would be interesting to see what guests would still wade into detritus waters of Noory/Wells island.

Fort Rock's Wiccan/mail order bride tales could be funny. Well, once. But he's certainly got more to say than "dead air" Wells, who apparently has a quota of 73 words an hour(grunts count). Which actually ain't a bad thing.

morphiaflow

73 words, and most of them are "false flag" and "Alex Jones' cock tastes delicious". Cue the grunts. (And groans.)

I suspect Ian and Knapp would jump ship, depending on what their own contracts, NDA's and NC's look like...

False Flag being his trademarked specialty. To be used to greatest effect in the immediate aftermath of a deplorable atrocity. John B never worries about being "too soon" with his inappropriate brain droppings. I'm sure tomorrow night will give us a false flag special, probably the Embassy bombing in Turkey being fodder.

Alex Jones. Now there's somebody who will stick with Noory. Turds of feather.

      Music nerd alert:

Seeing Art break away from C2C maybe with Ian/Knapp by side, reminds me of Anderson/Bruford/Wakeman/Howe vs "Yes" back in 1989.

I just hope no "Union" follows.
