I'm thinking that Art might come back on a part-time basis, at least initially. So for starters, I'd like to see Art get a show that's broadcast one weeknight (T, W or Th) and another on Saturday night. Then I'd love to see Art steal Knapp from C2C to do a Sunday night broadcast. That would give me 3 quality shows per week and that would be fantastic. I could always listen to Schrader on the other nights if I really needed a fix. Best of all, I could forget about listening to C2C entirely -- even for laughs!

Of course I'd love to hear Art do a show every night but I'm not sure if he wants to devote that much of his life to late night radio at this point. But who knows?

ANY Art is better than no Art, and a billion times better than a Snorge.

Juan

Having been in broadcasting, I would think a syndicator would be interested in either seven nights a week, five weekday nights, or two weekend nights.  If the show is not all seven nights, the stations have to fill the other nights.

Art said many times that he enjoyed working only on the weekends. I'd be that's what he's after, but who knows?

I agree that the 7 weekdays, 5 weekdays or 2 weekend nights are the most likely scenarios. And I'd bet on 2 nights/weekends-only as the winner. But ideally I'd like an Art show mid-week simply for my own selfish sake.   ;D

Art would definitely do a week day /night broadcast to hit at the coast crowd. I am sure that he would like to bring down Georges numbers.

Remember when Art asked coast to stop airing his past shows and take his name off the program? I can't help but think that it's now pay back time!

I have to wonder if the only sticking points to any new contract is Art getting a collection of other hosts to fill in for the nights he has off.

Either way, please hurry up Art and get this show on the road /air!

I have been thinking about this... The more I think, the more I feel that this is quite possibly already a done deal and just hasn't been announced yet. With both of your local affiliates aware of it, that really further adds fuel to that belief.

I agree. Sounds like a deal just may be in place. The only ocsticle now is getting stations to agree to carry the program. What good is a radio show if no one will broadcast it? There has to be a few affiliates willing to take the risk and carry this thing literally from day one.

Since you've been in broadcasting, UFOFill, what if PremRat ends up dropping SIT, due to Art coming back.  What do you think is the likely hood of stations looking to fill the spot with a new, live Art Bell show on Saturday nights, non-PremRat?  I can definitely see Art just doing one night a week.  He gets to do just enough of what he loves and still enjoy his "retirement."

congrats to MV on the ad revenue.

Maybe he will groom another host for weekdays, and take weekends for himself. Unless there is someone else he has in mind, Rob Simone gets my vote.
Add George Knapp once or twice a month, and the old C2C will be dead in less than a year. ;D

... Anyway, regardless of how many actual Noory/Coast "devotees" there are, it IS a giant commercial juggernaut that will have to be contended with. It won't just fold, even in the face of a challenge from its founder.

That's the way it always seems.  I think it's human nature to think things are stronger and more permanent than they really are.   There's the Soviet Union, the Warsaw Pact, the US economy circa 2008, the too big to fail investment banks, several of the recent Arab states, on and on... when conditions are just right, it trickles a bit first, then people just abandon whatever it is not wanting to be the last one...

C2C with th Snorge could last another 10 years, or based on a new Art Bell program it could already be within a couple of months of being canceled, it's too early to say either way.

It's sure been nice of PremRat to keep Art's name out there with those Somewhere in Time shows.  Just from SIT He likely has a certain amount of name recognition among younger people that hadn't listened to the original show.

Art's opening to his first new show:

.... a slow motion clip of Noory stumbling over every other word....then a blending into the Big Foot scream played all the way through...a pregnant pause...then...Art's smoke-hardened voice pierces the silence... "Never say Never".

Pretty good idea Marc ........ I like it!

Let's also keep in mind that Art would NOT discuss 911, and any side comments were "...and when Bin Laden blah blah..." totally refusing to challenge the official story or have any guests who did.  The BIG question is WHY?  I don't think it was just advertiser alienation.

where i come from, art's dismissal of the 911 conspiracy horseshit is a feather in his cap.

also, i do recall him having a 911 conspiracy guest on for the entire show.  the douche was laying out the most ridiculous and (now) predictable theories about remote controlled airplanes, thermite, etc.... he had a whole show to do it.  i don't recall the guest's name (because i only commit important things to memory), but he was on.

Forget all the "I love retirement" comments.  He may have liked the time off, but I don't believe for a single solitary second that he wanted "Retirement"

This is what I've thought for quite a while now. Art's first retirement in 1998 was all too real... you don't make that stuff up.

However, his second retirement in 2000 was long after Clear Channel had gained control of the program. I think Art was pushed out of the chair because management wanted to make changes to the show to which Art didn't agree with.

Art's return after the Siegel era was only intended to be a temporary measure until a suitable host could be found. Even though we were told at the time Art was back full time.

ziznak

Hmmmmmmm.. it's almost like we as a collective had a hand in this... it's like one of those experiments Art started back in the day.  All of our hope for Arts return and ill will towards Noory is finally paying off!

Thank you Michael V. for the email on the great news.
I have been web surfing on the topic of AB's return. I am happy and I am cautiously optimistic.
I woke my husband up this morning to read your email.
We are both huge fans of Art Bell and have been morose over the steady decline of the show.  :) . I hope it really happens.

YOUR RIGHT, MY SCORPION ARMY COMMISSIONED OFFICERS:
The deal HAS been cooked for some time now, remember when I came back? That's just after the Cardinal City Klutz's goose was cooked! Confession to Art if your monitoring, "I prefer Baseball over Football", hope I still have my job as Propaganda Minister for the Scorpion Army after saying that! Sorry George, nothing personal, but what's Mike Siegal doing right now career-wise?

Please tell me you don't teach English, FR.

it would be hilarious if art released a statement in which he said, "i saw the thread on coastgab about my new show.  i'm very displeased, and it's for this reason i've decided not to do a new show. g'day."
You know that's coming.

I have also been lured back by a catnip email declaring the Return of Art Bell.  In my world, this ranks above the Second Coming, so here I am to see what's what.

Although the political shenanigans are very interesting, especially when spiced with the rhetoric of sorcerer-robed formerly disgraced mystic, Fort Rock, the reason I think this announcement is credible is because

1) MV says so and he has huge reputation-at-stake if he made a mistake, plus he has the inside track of personal info.

2) The timing is right in his personal life.  They moved back to Nevada where he has dependable connections and weather, the baby is now in school full time and has made the adjustment so that Airyn is available to fill in Ramona's role and help him.  A couple usually needs a solid common interest once the kids are in school and a big block of time is available during the day for show prep.

3) Any speculation that George Noory would capture his audience has vanished.  The Noory audience is a completely different demographic and a huge block of intelligent, semi-intelligent and literate listeners has abandoned Coast for alternative alternative radio programs.  An "anything but Noory" crowd of artphiles without a clear heir...

4) Art's non-compete agreement has expired and enough time has passed for his fans to have adequately demonstrated our loyalty--giving him a great bargaining chip with his offers to other hosts.

5) Whitley Streiber, a good friend of Art's, can handle cohosts and the marketing, which Airyn can't do and Art hates.  Streiber has been waiting in the wings to do something with Art forever.

Now - some hand-rubbing pure fun speculation on how Noory would handle this:  After a big dose of turmeric mixed into antacid and kaopectate, I think he will not make a comment.  Why should he?  He's made the show "his own" (pile of crap) and Art will be doing something Noory and Premiere were unwilling to do.  I'm referring to the original dispute with Premiere over the screening of callers.

Handling whatever came in was Art's forte because he has that fabulous gift of charisma plus the ability to generate extemporaneous commentary based on a background as an engineer, a true UFOlogist and that prodigious memory.  I'll never forget the times Art was interviewing someone who made an obscure reference to a crashsite from years ago (that Mexican one) and Art immediately confronted the caller with facts which Art had in his head, not on some 3x5 card handed to him by a station flunkie.

We've often laughed about the fact that it took 22 Premier people to support Noory in doing what Art and Ramona did themselves.

So that's my two cents.  Nice to see so many of the old crowd here-- and I'm sure you will all be on board for a gab site about his show and forget about the repetitive trellis for annoying ads that Coast to Coast became.

I wish Noory read this forum and decided to end his career over it. "I saw the posts on coastgab about my show.  I now realize I'm a fucking moron, and it's for this reason I've decided to quit"

My whole perspective on shit changed today thanks to an email from MV.

i don't think there's much at stake here in terms of my reputation since i'm a nobody who happens to have installed a forum system on a web server which, it randomly turns out, people happen to use.  yay, me.  so, if that mass email i sent were revealed to contain inaccurate information, it would be a shoulder shrug for me.

also, i have no inside track.  i know nothing more than the rest of the users here.  actually, what i do know i've found out from the other users here.  i don't know art, and i'm certain he doesn't know me.  there's no reason why he would.

One of the last shows Art did on C2C was about the Global Warming situation, and there was one specific caller that started yelling at Art about the whole thing being BS, and you could tell that Art was a little more than annoyed at this.

I have no idea if this was the straw that broke the camels back or not, but I think it was. The caller went on at some length about being a Noory fan, and I'm sure that really got under Art's skin.

Whatever he is planning, I hope it works, because if it was not for Knapp, I would not be listening at all anymore. Out of one weeks worth of shows, I might listen a total of four to six hours. Open lines is a total waste of time, as are Saturdays when tinfoil Wells is "hosting".

I don't know how many stations carry SIT.  My local station carries only 1/2 hour of it. But if it's dropped, that might be a time for Art.  Even if it's not dropped, Art could go into competition with himself.

Guys, could someone take pity on me and copy pasta the group email from MV here?   For reasons known only to them, my ISP, comcast, has always blocked emails with a large number of BCCs.  They don't even just catch them in my spam filter so I can choose to receive them or not, they just totally reject them at the ISP level.

If nobody wants to copy the email here in public, could someone private message me with it?

kthxbye
