Can Noory pronounce anything correctly?

No

Oh, come on. How many times do the other Coast hosts bring up this stuff? Compare and contrast. You know that there's a big difference, and you know that it seems weird.

Noory has five times the opportunity of either of the other hosts. Drudge is a good compare and contrast, he updates daily. I guarantee you'll see a dead baby style story each day. Actually, most days its more than one. Why? Because stories like that scare the shit out of people and appall them. The entire media is set up to play on that reaction.

SnapT

I loved the caller that asked to be put back on with Tommy because Tom had a song he wanted to play for him, crazily.  A clearly annoyed Noory muttered something about Tom running a song-selling business on the side.  Hilarious!

I wasn't looking for it, so it sounded like typical media to me. People hear what they want to hear, especially from people they loathe. Eventually they start looking for things, picking at it, breathing things into it and end up way out in orbit in what they say about that person. That certainly happened to Art, actually times ten, and that particular allegation is just the same thing happening to Noory.

With all due respect, in this case that's horseshit.

Wrong. It's inordinate, and you're minimizing it for some unknown reason. For the record, I'm not saying that he mentions such things because he's crazy or evil. It's just over the top, and many people agree. On the flip side, George never makes racist or anti-Jewish comments. I would never jump on innocuous statements that might be falsely construed as such. He makes way, way too many references to "dead baby stuff", though. That's not a misrepresentative exaggeration based on personal prejudice, as I just call them like I hear them.

(sigh) Go through the Art Bell archives. Count his references to "dead baby stuff". I'm not talking about just news stories, either, by the way. Compare and contrast.

Well, perhaps he's macabre then.

"More Than a Feeling" definitely does not suck ;)

Excellent choice.  Don't Look Back would be good too.  Foreplay/Long Time - all good.

Good job Dave!

Oh and Snoory sucks but has some kickin bumpers tonight...

Dave played Kansas!!  That was on my list of suggestions!
This settles it.  I am heading to bed now after adding my (faint) praise.  I caught the first 20 minutes tonight and I could tell he was making a hell of an effort.  You could tell that he was trying for correct pronunciation and to avoid stalling (he did use the same phrase a few times in a row- but a marked improvement just the same.)  I feel sick and dirty posting this and see that there has also been a change in bumper music.

It makes me wonder why after a decade of calling critics haters and basement dwellers he has now decided to take notice.  Why did the show have to slide to the point it did before there was interest shown (and what happens if the ratings remain the same despite Art returning- does the show just resume the downhill slide because it demonstrates that people do not care enough to tune out of Coast and tune into Art?)

I suppose I am wondering if this was a project taken on for self-improvement or strictly to try to keep listeners.  Usually trying to change yourself for others ends in failure- but maybe putting in the effort to put out a show his grand kid(s?) would not be ashamed to tell their friends he does will be reward enough?

That is it- I feel dirty and need a shower.  Please do not read too much praise into that- I did not listen to the interview (for my own sanity, I hope it sucked; please somebody tell me it sucked...)  Just saying that I am surprised that after a decade slide that there is a bit of an reversal of trends... or perhaps it is just what a stock picker would refer to as a "dead cat" bounce?

Of course the wake up call was about keeping listeners.  But regardless of motive, most people feel better when they do a better job, no matter what the circumstances.  He may have been being honest when he said he got something back he'd lost.  Could be.

As far as ratings, comparing pre-Sept 16 ratings to those after would be comparing apples to oranges.  After Sept 16, they still need to compare their ratings to the competition in each market, same as before.

Thanks for the honesty. :) To show that I'm not a robotic 24/7 naysayer, George hit a home run with his take on Syria, and he's right on with a lot of his views on geopolitics. I agree with his beliefs on some conspiracy and paranormal subjects too. In fact, our views are almost identical on a few things.

SciFiAuthor

George might work in some more Pink Floyd when the topic warrants. Though, I would leave "Time" to Art, there was nothing quite like Art talking over the intro to that song weaving the setting of the show. That's something I hope to hear again in the new show.

Yes and THE MEDIA is holding a gun to the Snorboreons head making him pick those stories of the hundred or so stories each day.
Watched the local news, ABC world news, and BBC world news today not one dead baby story. Jorch years ago would have a few hurt, maimed, killed, dead, child/babies almost each night in the first 12 minutes of a 4 hour show.

Let Not Art Bell stand on his own merit, no need to compare or contrast with anyone else on TV or radio.

Funny enough, on paranormal and conspiracy subjects, I disagree with him most of the time. He did call Syria right though, I suppose the middle eastern background gives him a better perspective.

I know it is about keeping listeners... I just do not get why.  Is Art really going to eat into his market that much?  I kind of doubt it- a few people will leave- but his major market (just as Arts was back in the day) are people who work overnight and / or are insomniacs.  This will not change.

It could be that he found whatever he lost.  It would make a great cartoon of him finding a pet rock that has been lost for a decade and gives him the courage to face the microphone each night (hint hint...) ;)

You just had John Kerry, Cameron and France come out against Bashar al-Asad specifically in response to graphic pictures of dead babies from last Wednesday.

"finding a pet rock "

A shadow rock . . .

George captains the Coasta Concordia. Only haters could blame "Schettino".

Not 2 stories at least 3 times a week. That was just part of the story not THE story, see the bolded part LAST WEDNESDAY.

To add Jorchs guest can be talking about pet shadow rocks and out of the blue he will ask the guest "could you kill/harm a baby with a shadow rock?" and the guest stammers for a second or two taken aback.

Did he have relatives in Lebanon when Israel assaulted it? That was a *very* tense time. On the EBE and UFO stuff, I share his romantic and nostalgic(?) wish that aliens are space travelers, but I'm probably more agnostic than anything else when it comes to much of the abduction claims and the like. The theories on inter-dimensional realities freak me out for some reason.

I didn't mean to infer you didn't realize that.  It's sure an interesting question.

Probably no one really knows, although PremRat must have a pretty good idea of their market and how it will react to Art Bell's return on satellite.  At least one would think that, but we are continually surprised by what corporations don't know or don't track or don't do right, even when it seems obvious they should have a handle on whatever it is or be able to reach the right decision.

There will be some bleed off.  Maybe the number can be estimated, maybe not.  They are going to prefer it's closer to 0 to 5 or 10%, than 25% or more.  I imagine things have been tense around the office and are going to be for awhile due to uncertainty.  With the word of several large stations canceling Coast lately, they must be on the bubble in at least some additional areas - the show does suck after all - and maybe a drop of, say, 10% would be crucial.

All good points, which leads me to this question. Why are all public radio show ratings a better guarded secret than our private emails and phone records. Not being political just a ironic comparison

The entire Syria affair is one long, huge, dead baby story. The whole reason everyone's been pissed for the last week were the graphic pictures of dead children. A war may result from that, for better or worse. Had those pictures been simply yet another report without pictures, it would be a normal week.

I vaguely recall something like that yes. I'm generally a skeptic, though I share the romanticism which is why I listen. I will admit that I am not so skeptical in two areas: ghosts and UFOs. My house was built in 1868 and it's sometimes one spooky fucking place. Enough to make me wonder, but I haven't the slightest idea what it would mean. The other are the UFOs, with concepts out there like alcubierre drives and manipulation of the Higgs field, it might not be so far fetched that a really advanced civilization could potentially be here.

That was true with the fabricated incubator story before the Iraq War, but I'm not sure that's an applicable defense of over-the-top asides during the course of a talk show over some ten years. It's apples and motorcycles.

A lot of credible and reasonable folks had extraordinary experiences. It's not fair to discount all of them as cranks, out of hand. Some of the encounters may turn out to be prosaic. The stories are true, though.

I think it just comes down to media people and sensationalism. George is an old news director, he's trained in determining what stories will resonate the most with an audience. If the majority of your audience are parents, for example, dead baby stories go a long way with TSL. Unfortunately in the mainstream media, it translates to wars. Remember how they showed the pictures of dead Kurdish babies in the run up to Iraq? Those pictures were from over 20 years previous, and it was done for the emotional reaction cred from the audience, but in the end it bolstered a call for war.

Well, I think it falls into three categories in order of how much it happens: 1. Misunderstanding 2. Lying 3. Something else . . .

There are certainly quite a few something else's out there. There's a weird one up on Art's site right now about some Russian hikers that disappeared in the 50's. I dug in further than the article, and it's definitely very odd specifically due to radioactivity found in the hiker's clothing.

See now you are shifting/narrowing the focus of story to just dead babies as it suits your purpose, of trying to normalize the high percentage or maimed dead children stories Dave tells in the first 12 minutes of his show. Irregardless of the facts of killing men, women AND children. It's part of the story true, but just part or the story. Whereas Dave makes it the headline, byline, and body of THE story many times a night.  It's not just shit people here are pulling out of there ass to slam Noorie, he does it and has done it for many years.
Now what that means, DamnIfIKnow, but it's caused me a WTF and raised my eyebrow a few times.

Nice try though, sure you are not into voodoo, last time I've see so many straw men was in a voodoo shop?  ;)

More into objectivity. As I said, he seems to behave the same was as the rest of the media. I don't practice voodoo yet, but I would imagine I could make a fortune selling a George Noory voodoo doll.

I'd vote for "Pigs" or "Run Like Hell".  I think either one could work great depending on the topic.
