A time dilation calculator I googled up. Traveling 20% the speed of light will only cause the passage of time on the wafer ship to pass about 2% slower than on Earth. So a 20 year journey to Alpha Centauri as measured on Earth will still take 19 years 7 months. It sounds about right from what I remember from my college physics class I took in the 90s, lol.

I have a question about the relativistic speeds of the space-chip.  At a certain speed doesn't time-dilation take effect so that to us on earth it would seem to be actually traveling slowly?

Call in the third hour with your question. (424) 253-0632 or SKYPE amyontheradio

The two go hand in hand though. My jr. high math teacher used to have a quote on the wall that "mathematics is the queen of the sciences". (quote apparently from the German mathematician Gauss)

Cool, thanks!  Yeah as I remember the big effects don't start kicking in till you get like 70% or such.
