I'm listening now!

I have listened to all of the shows on the Dark Matter Radio tonight for the first time, and I am impressed with quality of the information and the interviewing on all of the shows.

Hmmm, but Hoagland is still spouting his total shite. C'mon Steve, take him to task please.  :-\.. I know the corporate dollar is paying, but it's immoral to let him go unchallenged.

Oh that's half the interview. Yes, it'll be there right after it airs.

I listened to the first hour, because I enjoy hearing what a mess Coast is behind the scenes (although Tommy's common sense in trying to get rid of Hoagland does shine through).

I had to turn it off when he started talking about 'science' though.  I have a very low tolerance for certain types of bullshit, plus I just cannot stand Ho-gland personally.

Just to make sure I didn't miss any more trashing of George, does any of that come up in the second hour?

problem is if you do that, hoagland descends into a 2-4 hour lecture on 1 point.

You're right; hair care can only hold interest for so long.

Ya dun gud Bateman.  Really man, excellent show! ;)

What?

Hoagland is going to be your professional colleague, albeit tenuously and possibly temporarily is he not? I can't see either of you being overly heavy on the other (Not that he could be with you, as you're the broadcaster; he's the 'science advisor' now with his own show). I'm not suggesting you're scripted Steve, I know you're not; but you could have pulled him up. He gets away with it, because he gets away with it. If he's there for the laughs and giggles, it should be said as such.

"The corporate dollar is paying" - well, except it's not. And what do you want, a disclaimer? It's also impossible to take him to task on the 10 things he throws at you in any given answer - it's a grab bag of unverifiable factoids for the most part, and his rapid-fire delivery is designed to overwhelm. You have to zero in on only 1 or 2 things at a time.

right, you could have asked him why Comet Elenin wasn't a spaceship with a library of alien knowledge, for example. Just one of the crazy things he said over the years. but maybe next time, I understand this interview was mostly about the Jorch incident.

Seriously, after listening to George's pointless interviews it was wonderful to hear someone who could actually hold his own with Hoagland and engage him in conversation.  Bateman was skeptical, but polite and didn't let the conversation stray into irrelevant subject matter anymore than could be helped.

How do we know it wasn't?

That's exactly how I heard it. It was a great interview, a hundred times better than listening to Dave interview Hoagland. I think Hoagland is such a divisive figure that people are prepared to shoot the messenger as far as the interviews are concerned.

Sounds like hoagland to me, oh, and while you're digesting that, here's another 15 'facts'....

You'd have to be a real walking encyclopedia to keep up with it all,  he won't concede a point easily either, a show could quickly become real uncomfortable to listen to.  Cool that you have such a coast regular on the show, but I thought the gossip about Jorch and the coast situation was way more interesting than Hoaglands theories.

That's the only part I was truly interested in also...other than to get a giggle out of listening to Hoagie "go on" again after many years of not listening to him.  It didn't sound like he has changed any to me.  The REAL reason I listened is because I thoroughly enjoy listening to bateman, nbirnes, rosegirl, along with any gabblings that call in,  and I enjoy the company of my fellow gabblings in chat.

It was an interesting program. It did nothing to change my opinion of Hoagland, mind you, but it was enlightening to hear his version of events over the years. He doesn't seem to accept his culpability for the situation due to what he said when he was on Dark Matter, even though you did attempt to bring it up. And it was rather disingenuous of him to say "a producer that shall not be named", but then go ahead and name Tommy and Lisa (unless he was talking about some other, yet unknown producer). Still, it's not surprising to find that Tommy has worked to make George so reliant on him that he would be helpless otherwise (the pizza roll incident came to mind, when George said he had to call Tommy because he didn't know where any hospitals were).

But he did nothing to make me want to listen to "The Other Side of Midnight." Although he said that the show would not be about him, everything else he said in the interview indicated to me that would be unlikely at best. His statements are so protracted, I doubt any guest he has will be able to get any words out before the show ended. And he's got so much of an ego, that I doubt that he could have a guest that might disagree with any of his assertions.

All in all, you did a great job considering what you had to work with, bateman. Yes, I would have liked it if you could have challenged him on some of his batshit crazy assertions, but I also understand that the man is so unstable that you have to handle him like an open jar of nitroglycerin if you want to get a decent interview out him. In my opinion, I honestly wish you were the one hosting "The Other Side of Midnight." I understand it's probably something you have absolutely no time for, but you're one of the few that I've heard that can do this type of thing the justice it deserves.

I just hope Jorch wasn't right to deny Hoaxland his own show.  ;D

Me also!  Once Hoagie started with his shtick, it lulled me right to sleep, faster than any other sleeping aid could do.  ;)

Bateman, you were excellent on keeping him on track, couldn't have asked for anything better last night.

In the interview, Hoagland did at least mention he wants to try to get Elon Musk as a guest for his new show.
That would be an amazing feat if he accomplishes that and if he does, maybe he can suggest Musk also go on with Art.

Every single publicly released image is a JPG, which means lossy compression.  Therefore they do all have regular, geometric patterns artificially created: in the computer that made the JPG.  Words cannot express how frustrated it makes me whenever I hear this claim from Richard.  And after today, all the images to come down from the spacecraft will be lossy-compressed for at least several weeks so that the lossless versions can be prioritized as most interesting first.  (This is all public information.)

MR. Spock

Steve, I listened to your show last night with rch. I did enjoy the show. Please keep up the good work.

Did you invite Aldous to your estate in the Hamptons?

Good show bateman. RCH was a funny guy.

Well said and I agree.  An entertaining interview and c'mon, this is Hoagie, not a mainstream Nova special, so obviously take it all with a grain of salt.   ;)

The chatroom was fun as well so thanks to bateman and nbirnes and whoever else was responsible for getting the stream/chat going.
