My opinion is that Art should know about all of this as I certainly know that BMI-ASCAP want their pound of flesh.
I first learned of them from installing, yes 8-track, cassette & later CD systems in various restaurants in the late 80's & 90's to play ROYALTY FREE background music. I forbid them to play AM-FM radio & commercial music, because I said they would get in trouble. Sure enough a few had the bright idea to play commercial music and got busted by the BMI-ASCAP man. First timers were just $300.00, a year subscription, on the spot or else. If you are making any money where the music is for public display, then the mafia wants their cut.
I would think Art, being in the broadcast industry, and as I have been for the last 25 years would know such a thing.
Forethought or not, let's not just give up on him, and let's see where all this goes. He's already had something shoved up his ass, let's not jam it up to the elbow. I would be quite disappointed and say the hell with it with all, the hate and lack of "faith".

Keith is right I guess, I am emotional and this crap really came out of left field. As I have written in other posts I am very attached to that music that I collected with love over many Years and it is part of the energy of the show for me as well as many who became fans over the long history of the show.
Yes, I could go back to commercial radio but my dream is and always was
good content without endless commercials, so no thanks.
The reason it came out of left field is because we were concerned with what we thought was the big stuff, my health, getting a live stream, setting up a studio but playing a few parts of music every hour? That was just not first on the list, nor should it have been in a logical World. People have said I am looking at all this like a Talk Show Host, it's the only way I know how to look at it!

That's what I was thinking. Maybe charge people $4.99 /month and do nothing about pirated streams. There will be so many out there. Sirius couldn't stop it, neither can other services.

For the people that want to pay $5/month, give them a t-shirt or something. For everyone else, just look a blind eye to the pirated streams.

There seems to be a lot that needs to be figured out. Last night, people needed to pay $25/month. Today it is $5. The dust needs to settle a bit.

This is exactly how Coast does it - mic in program & utility feeds, guest in program & utility feeds, music in program only. Utility feeds their recording backup for the podcast so it's automatically stripped out. Not complicated in the slightest.

If he's willing to put out a music-free podcast, this is the way.
