This is quite a statement.

George Noory or someone on his staff authorized to speak on his behalf admitted on a public forum that his critics had a point all along, and that for a long time now something's been missing.  It would follow that he's suggesting the show has suffered because of this and he is going to try to improve (and George please correct me if I've misinterpreted this).

Wow.

If that's true, this site has everything he needs to know about what should be addressed and corrected.  I'd start by not being as accessible to everyone during the day when I should be doing show prep, try to find something interesting about every guest and topic, and focusing on the conversation during the show and letting everything else go or delegating it.

Mr. Noory, if that is you, thank you (I think) for changing your avatar.  Couldn't you pick something whimsical and non-horrific?  Like something reminiscent of the TZ or even Superman comics?

What did you find, Mr.Noory?

Yes indeed.

And yes, what exactly did you find George?  Inquiring minds would like to know   :)

SciFiAuthor

Hello everyone,

I'm typically an archlurker. I like to pass by and see what people are saying about coast, the guests and lately Art's return to broadcasting (very exciting!). I'm one of those thousands of people that would normally not post, mainly for lack of enough hours in the day to maintain an active forum presence. Reading is fast, but posting takes time that I can't ever seem to make. But, you know, when Noory's paying attention it becomes worth making time in hopes of helping to improve the show.

He's asking for constructive criticism, showing a willingness to read (but apparently not play the didgeridoo on air for precisely 36 seconds. I was hoping for that one) and react, and even "kick it up a notch". So, you know, instead of a pummeling the guy with negativity, let's give him what he's asking for.

George,

I have a long history of listening to C2C and you. I started listening to Art in 1995. I live in St. Louis, and well remember the days of the radio "double header" that we were lucky to have. You ushered in the evening as the Nighthawk setting the paranormal/alternative news tone, building up to Art Bell's show. It was great, listeners like me had roughly 8 hours of programming that fit our tastes. As someone that works predominantly at night, I literally built a business and wrote a book with Coast and the Nighthawk running in the background. I also remember the relief you were when Coast declined after Art's retirement and the other host of that period took over (I don't mean to be negative towards him, he'd have made a great sports broadcaster. Not a good fit with C2C though).

But the show became disappointingly lackluster over the years. In one man's opinion, and I hope everyone else gives theirs, the show simply became too "Hollywood mainstream entertainment" and completely lost the "edgy, underground feel" that us night folks loved and Art is so masterful with. Of course, you're not Art, but hey, you were the Nighthawk and he was pretty darned good.

I could be entirely off base, but here are some things that could help:

1. Less fluff. Fewer shows about angels, numerology, and the like and a little more science and edgy topics. For example, if you could interview Snowden or someone like him, you'd have it. Another would be to have Robert Zubrin dig into some of his other books, such as "Merchants of Despair" and explore that subject matter. Art had things like "The Quickening", maybe you could further explore the unnatural negativity that pervades the world these days. You can't even read modern sci fi novels without taking Prozac, I mean, there is a serious problem with the world that's driving us away from exploring space and into a mode of decline because people are becoming conditioned by the media and pop culture to be negative and anti-humanist. Zubrin knows all about that, and I'd love to hear more and more like him.

2. I know you have to keep up ratings and adjust the show for the market you have. But sometimes it's coming across as a bit corporate. Rebrand things as a little more independent from Premiere's influence, and you may get good results especially in light of Art's feud with them.

3. We live in uncertain times. In the 90's we had that feel of never trust the government in shows like Art's, the X-Files, and the like. Now, even with the government showing itself to be way worse than it was in those days, there's gotta be a huge untapped market that doesn't want to hear the usual Republican and Democrat slants. A forum for the non-mainstream views is something Coast could be better at. Heck, interview a communist. Then a libertarian. Have them debate on air, or have a round table. Get some member of a foreign government for a different perspective of US policy and hit them with a UFO question. Go outside the box that coast has built over the last decade in regards to guests.

I'm sure there's more, and I can't wait to hear everyone else's suggestions. I just wanted to see if I could get a ball rolling.

Dannion Brinkley  and Joyce Riley  in the first two hours on the less than honorable treatment our vets are getting when they return from overseas.  Certainly a worthy topic, but I was surprised by Riley's confusion as to why we're flying drones over Pakistan.  "We're not at war with Pakistan."  No.  You're right.  It's complicated.  Larry Tye's  style and enthusiasm made the night with a discussion on Superman.  George said he used to dress like Zorro when he was a kid.  A week ago he said he dressed like Galileo.  The week before that he said he dressed like Edgar Casey.  The Pharaohs of Egypt.  Loni Anderson.  You ain't fooling me, George, although you did manage to pull a halfway decent show straight out of your butt.  Now who do we talk to about dumping the ufo phil song?  Getting an apology to that lady (a guest) you shook up pretending you didn't whisper that voice that freaked her out?  What exactly does it mean when you go on "assignment"?  Why don't you let LMH do her monthly show by herself?  Those text message questions that Tommy reads to you aren't real, right?  Are you aware that there is absolutely nothing cool or interesting at the c2c store?  What's up with Greg the Cook?  Do you think we don't notice when you skip out early and play a recording of some lame, tired....

God no... do not for all that is holy, for all that is loved, and for all the money in China, do not go political. Not only is it on every station and several shows on those stations it is on television, newspapers and comedy channels. We don't need more politics. No matter what the flavor.

This is an overnight program where the spooky is welcomed. A time where conjectures of the fantastic and ethereal are given time to capture the imagination.

George, you want some advice?  Just tune into this "guy" that's going to have a new show on Sirius, starting mid-September.  It'll be right before your show so think of it as part of your "show prep."  Take notes and learn from The Master.  Believe me, it'll be worth the price of admission.  Charge it to Premrad under "professional training."  ;)

I personally dislike George because of his style. He will ask questions and lead the person to give the answer he wants. Examples like "Do you think this has anything to do with the pyramids? It has to right? Tell us how it involves the pyramids." The next time you listen to the show watch for this, he does it non-stop.  ::)

To the people saying noory hasn't responded to us, he's been on here 1 day. Hope bellgab or coastgab gets a shout out Friday again
Personally I don't care about shout outs, I just want him to improve the product.  He came here to ask for advice to "step up" the show and was given great suggestions, I hope he puts the suggestions into practice.  Maybe shout outs are good for MV and site?  If so then sure, go ahead; otherwise just be better.

I can lurk no more.  I am a long time watcher and first time poster and I could not be more excited to post here.  I am in awe of Mr. Noory stopping by.  Maybe he has always been scared to ever try it before because if I were to put myself in his place I would not have had the nerve.  He seems like a very sweet man and has quite a good sense of humor.  I am sad for him.  I'm actually sorry to have not cared much for him trying to compare him to Art.  He is right, he is not Art and if you think on it he never tried to be.

Superman and Batman in a cafe
from "the way it should have ended" guys

That was a pretty good combination last night, because if you ask any soldier what they want in their care packages, most often you'll get the response- "candy bars & comic books."

I think my favourite Superman moment, besides all of Red Son, was a mini series for The Question in which the detective had to uncover various criminal plots that Superman hadn't even noticed. Why? Because he never uses his X-Ray vision to look into bathrooms, or bedrooms, so all of these drug dealers were sending their product through pneumatic tubes from abandoned subway tunnels up into residential bathrooms.

Absolutely agree, although as to the "do not go political", it's already a little too late

BTW, regarding all the hooha over the supposed George communications, I still have no confidence this is him. I suppose I can accept it's his people, but I wouldn't bet that it's with his knowledge or consent. It's much easier to believe it's a spoof.

...would you please clarify for us slow readers, MV, that you have a way to technically verify that it was George Noory himself and not one of his staff who posted here last night under the name "GNoory.

I dont.

GNoory seems a bit too self deprecating to be a staff member, and the mannerisms are dead on.

I always get George a day late.  Did all go well?  Did he have more "ownership" with the show?

I have been pretty loyal to him but am also loyal to my dog who poops all over the yard and occasionally lifts his leg in the house.

In a world where Art Bell is back, Clyde Lewis is still on, and Coast to Coast AM is good.. we will have some good choices and no sleep.
Let the notch be kicked up George.

Apologies, MV. I will go to the naughty step, though I did acknowledge in a later comment that 'Pam had a perfect right to post. There's just been too much ass-kissing - 'props', 'kudos', 'respect' - of Noory since this Gnoory figure turned up for my liking, and I guess the suggestion on this thread that he is a sweet man with a great sense of humor was one step through the looking-glass too far for me.

Open Letter to George: I listened to you during the "NightHawk" days in St. Louis, all the way up to your transition to C2C full-time host.  I've commented on this forum how there was a qualitative difference between the NightHawk days and your time on C2C.  Not sure if it was the big changes in your life or different expectations from your employer, but the heart of "George Noory" was left behind in the NightHawk studio.

As NightHawk you were more spontaneous, lighthearted, involved, and extremely creative.  The show was led by you.  On C2C it seems like you are on a treadmill that you can't quite keep up with.  Most here make critical comments not out of spite, but of a level of concern.  You were and are the NightHawk... make C2C yours and reflective of your talents and interests.  The rest will fall into place.

Robert1972

Doesn't matter what Dave does....C2C is a shell of its former self due to years of garbage interviewing and topics that went away from the original premise of show.  It's dead.  Welcome back Art

I think the ideal thing for the moderators of this website to do, would be to abolish this thread and all of the negativity now that Mr. Noory has appeared here.  By removing the vitriol and negativity it might encourage Art Bell to come here.  I just don't think Mr. Bell is inclined to come into a forum of such rude immaturity and I thought a nice title for a thread could be "George Noory's Interactions with Coast Fans."  :)

That would be an amazing site to have Mr. Nori and Mr. Bill interacting with fans while on the radio.

On second thoughts, MV........

I agree - Mr Bill is the perfect match for George.  Ultimately, George's show may very well come to the same end Mr Bill did in those SNL skits.
