Art Bell Stream! (No longer in service)

Yeah what's with the Snoory!?!?  I left Ghost to Ghost on last night and woke up to the terrifying sounds of special George!  Is this some kind of cruel Halloween trick?  Who would do such a thing!?!

I don't want to sound ungrateful, because linden2k and others have really done yeoman's work and made our lives so much more pleasant. Really, can you imagine  what life would be w/o the AB stream here, day or night? It's just that it was so unexpected to hear that befuddled voice on my computer. But it was done in an effort to provide pleasure to us in the form of Halloween-type programs. So I'm still very happy to have The Stream.

I too have been exposed to Noory this morning. If my ears had taste buds it would taste like a heated public swimming pool.




Aside from this incident, I have generally been appreciating the Art Bell stream. Thanks for that.

it's 9:30 am here in Ohio on 10/31 and George Noory is on the Art Bell stream.  had you given me the opportunity to adequately 'treat' you i would have taken it.  if only to prevent this 'trick'.

Yeah, a show didn't get checked and it contained high levels of Noory. I swear to god the one show that doesn't get checked always ends up being George.  I feel the worst for our listeners on the east coast who have lost loved ones to the hurricane and now have to face this clearly avoidable tragedy.

Jesus I remember the last time this happened to me... listening to Noory has to be done with preparation.  Expecting to hear Art and then getting Snore's is like going from a nice hot bath into ice water... total system shock.  I'm just glad everybody is ok... no heart attacks or anything suddenly life ending.

Gag.  That reminds me of when Art would host weekends or guest host and somewhere along the line a Noory voiced over commercial would come on to jolt the audience ... or innocently watching Ancient Aliens and suddenly a drooling inept George Noory clip about how 'peepul are shur innereschted in this schtuff' would appear onscreen.

you guys keep a schedule or a playlist for the shows you play right? Is it possible to find a show that was played last night? There was one where Richard Hoagland was on for an hour or so talking about Antarctica. Any help would be appreciated.

I thought it was interesting that I just caught the tail end of Art's April 25, 2004 interview of George Green, who seemed pretty loony about UFO theories. But the amazing thing, so different from George Noory, was that Art finally enough of the nonsense. The straw that broke the camel's back was that Green took off on the Illuminati somehow, and started telling a story about some party he supposedly was at with political figures including Ted Kennedy and Quebec's Prime Minister at the time, Pierre Trudeau. He accused Kennedy of vocally leering about Green's 14-year-old daughter, to Green himself, saying he wanted to go to bed with her (?!).

At that Art had enough. In a perfectly polite and professional way Art said, "I'm going to terminate the interview now, George. It's just too much and I can't buy one word of it." So off Green goes, and Art says to his audience, "Every time I'd ask a question, I'd get a non-answer, and he'd go off in a totally different way." Art then goes to Open Lines for the remainder of the time allotted for that interview.

What a revelation, and what a difference in hosting styles. Art was such a pro. There was a certain level of respect for him and his audience that Art demanded from his guests. So unlike The Doormat, George Noory.

I remember listening to that show live. It was fantastic; you could feel the tension build on the radio. Art is a pro.

in my experience, that was always caused by a rogue mp3 file with a different samplerate than the other mp3s in the playlist.  then again, it depends on what software you're using.

I just checked to see if I had that show in my library to see if it suffers from the same problem but mine does not. Seems to play at normal speeds for me.

I noticed that happening in the middle of the night Thursday (or was it Friday?). I'd fallen asleep with headphones on listening to the AB stream and was waked temporarily sometime 2:00-4:00 am by a "runaway stream" like you describe.

Yeah, we've got everything sampled down to the same rates.. I've contacted the service who actually hosts the stream to see why this is happening with the occasional files.

oooh, good call. I'll check through the next batch of files for the upcoming playlist. It is possible some of the shows I've had to compile/compress were converted to stereo accidentally (damn you, Goldwave!)

Has the audio gain changed lately in the last month or so?  I am finding I have to turn up the volume quite a bit these days, since mid Oct.  I checked my player to see if I accidentally changed something, but I cannot find any cause.  Obviously it's not important, but with other computer alerts going on I fear turning up my computer volume too high.  Anybody else experiencing the same.... having to turn up the volume higher than normal when streaming?

I noticed this too but only because I switched over to U7 because Ed Dames was on Fine Art. When I switched to U7 it was noticeably louder. No biggie/. i still love Fine Art.
