You really don't think there was any collusion between JC and Art/George? It seems that at a minimum they're in on the goof; and I wouldn't be surprised if there was coordination of specific call dates and times. I don't see the benefit to scripting calls, though.

The thing that alway got me suspicious about the original JC (Noory JC is definitely a fake and probably on the Noory Payroll) is that he always seemed to get through on Open Lines nights but never got through when there was a guest on.

That was explained easily with Art Bell because he used unscreened lines for open lines with no guest, so JC could call in then.
But Art would screen lines with callers for a guest because he wanted to be sure the caller was calling to ask the guest an appropriate question, not tell a personal story or something.
JC probably was aware of that and wouldn't even try to call to a guest since his rants would be off topic.

He didn't always screen guest calls. I have heard many instances of callers trying to talk about something else when a guest is on.

Art would often tell of screening calls for guests however to make sure they had a question for the guest.

I find some of the funniest calls for Art were the idiots that would call in twice or on the wrong line... people with the radio all loud in the background... kids were great calls too.  Of course ya gotta love the whack jobs too!

I listen to archived shows and that comment always makes me laugh. Another is when a caller says, "Are we on the air?" and Art replies, "I certainly hope so." I also love those callers who say things like, "I've been psychic since I was two years old, and I've had at least a hundred ghost encounters and I'm an abduction survivor and I've lived in four haunted houses...you could have a whole show with just me, Art!" and Art never says a word.

When Art does that he seems to almost always take the right attitude between forgiving and pissed-off. But when George plays dumb with clueless callers, it almost always goes on too long and eventually mean-spirited. With George it too often feels creepy and uncomfortable, like watching him pull the wings off flies for fun.

I want to think it's not just my bias in favor of Art that is responsible for my different attitudes about how they handle/handled clueless callers, but I can't articulate the distinction. It sure seems like Art instinctively knew which blundering callers were sympathetic and which were assholes. While George is just a kid with Asperger's, mimicking behavior he's seen without any understanding of under what circumstances it's appropriate.

I always thought that Noory's "playing" with "clueless" callers were mean-spirited rather than playful like Art's same shtick was.

Seriously??? I thought it wreaked of something staged that was funny to the people that planned it when they talked about it but in practice came off as bland and mostly awkward.

It was most surely planned, but the caller wasn't in on it. (Did you sense he was? I didn't.) And it wasn't funny funny, it was just....GN funny, and admittedly the standards for GN funny are much lower than those for anyone else. So it wasn't hilarious. It was just that I laughed twice, which is as good as it gets when it comes to GN (as opposed to when I'm laughing at him, of course).

You nailed it.  Creepy, mean, and uncomfortable.  It's easy for Noory to play dumb, though.  He just has to be himself.

Whenever I'm on PS3 Shoutcast there is always a 1 to 2 hundred difference in listeners either way. I think it's mostly due to people switching back and forth if one is playing a show that they're not interested in.
