They're going to announce the Japanese government is selling Mt Fuji to Trump Properties Inc. for $1, build a massive resort and golf course on the summit, and melt the snow to sell as bottled water.  In return Abe is going to be the general manager of Trump Japan.

Oy.The only truth to that is the homeless (i.e. affordable housing) problem. But that's all up and down the west coast, every major city (the homeless crisis), Google to verify. The difference is SF's tourist industry, hence the visibility and "shock" of sight-seers. It is shockingly bad, but not at all exclusive to SF.

My stepson worked for Oracle and lived somewhere in the Mission District with his wife and baby son.  (This was ten years ago). Visited him twice and could not believe the number of people living on the street in a relatively good (old) neighborhood.  Crap all over the place.  The kid was making six figures while his wife was going to grad school.  As soon as she got her masters they got the hell out of Dodge.

Not to cast any aspersions on your son, I'm sure he is a good guy, but one of the problems with the migration from failed cities in California is that the people who move bring their political ideas of tax-and-spend, bathrooms by whatever gender you decide today, acceptance of homelessness, anti-gun, pro-illegals etc views with them. (Not realizing that this policies helped cause the problem in their home cities.)  And they also inflate the real estate market (now, this can be a good thing, depending on your personal situation. One the one hand you can sell much higher than you bought with very little effort, on the other if you like your place or don't want to move your taxes go way up.)

Ha. Well one of the places where a liberal might get turned around, or become even worse, is Sweden these days with all the rapes and "refugee" crisis and failed immigration schemes. Especially if he is making $$$ the taxes there are crazy and have been for decades. Even Bjorn and ABBA found that out- and that was when Sweden was still a nice, homogeneous country without the rape epidemic and immigrants.

Did he say he supported violence? Don't think he did. I seem to remember in Obama's time, there was much talk of 'patriots' tooling up to overthrow Obama and the administration. Because Obama had taken thur gurns. Only he didn't. Ever. Nor declare martial law; that other well worn prediction. Bannon would though.

He didn'a ave to take no gurns.  Ach, 'e drove up the price of ammunition to the point no one had the spare Change to fire off a few rounds for muh freedom!

Thanks Obama!

I'm still waiting for this alleged 'evidence' that Trump and the rest of the rabble claim to have about the popular vote being won with illegal votes. That was three weeks ago; nothing said since by him.  :-\

Not anti choice; but Trump (Quelle Surprise!) is lying. He won't put money into education to give real choice. Answer me this: Will you be willing to have your taxes rise to pay for all kids to have a decent education irrespective of social status?

Hear in 'muhErica, education is funded with three and sometimes four levels of taxation. City, county, state and federal.  Throwing money at the problem has done little to help the situation.  I, personally, would be interested in seeing what the condition of education in America has become since the federal Dept. of Education was created.  I would posit that the relationship between increase monies and actual educatin' is an inverse one.  Then again I could be wrong, as I entered the public education system right about the time that federal monies were brought to the table, so my education might be questionable.

So questionable that I was unable to hack it in the parochial Jesuit high school I was forcibly relocated to.  I was not culturally prepared, and therefore disadvantaged.  I am the victim hear.  Jesuits have a long and storied history, mynd yew...

all children should wear uniforms to school.  They should have mandatory PT, daily.  If disabled, adapted PT.  Family in tough economic straights, kids should get a breakfast and lunch.  They should learn to march and practice hand to hand combat skills.  At least 6 solid hours of agressive academic instruction.

Teachers? Heh, don't get me started.

I am partial to mandatory basic training in any branch of service as a requirement for the High School Diploma, regardless of public, private or GED.  For the nancies, I would like to see a "Peace Corps" type organization to be established; when you join it you are immediately shipped out (unarmed) to some third-world shit hole where you will do your good works to save the world hoping to survive the three-month experience regardless of the predations of disease or well-armed natives.  Upon completion of any of the above "senior year" summer schools you are given your diploma and may at your own discretion remain in your branch of service to pursue a military career or pursue a civilian life (to include saving the world as a "Peace Corps" volunteer/zombie).  Obviously, the differently abled would need a different sort of graduation requirement, and not to be harsh some folks even today do not have a HS diploma or GED, it isn't a requirement for survival...  Just something you get if you are able to.

AND I want my dogs sent to obedience school on the public dime, if they can make the cut I'd like them to also be sent through some sort of military/police working dog program.  My dogs are special, even the retarded one that isn't as smart as a five-year old child but still tries her little heart out, bless her...

I'm not sure if it's still the case - being an election year and all - but early on in the refugee ''crisis'' German traitor Angela Merkel said ''refugees who commit crimes in Germany will not face deportation because the danger they face in their home countries is greater than the reason to deport them''.  I'd guess she'd even be able to find some so-called judges to back her up.

With all the crime from their own Muslim ''immigrants'', Sweden must not be too far behind her very ''progressive'' thinking on that.

You are one unbelievably looney tune! I don't even know how to respond to your insanity! Now you're going to tell me about what's been going on in SF since 1980? Really? "The thuggy SF Left"?? There is no active left in SF unless it has something to do with Gay rights stuff! Seriously! SF is and has been essentially brain-dead since 1982/3 (end of Punk/New Wave scene) with the exception of a little "Occupy" sympathetic activity. I'm sure there were a few incidental protests here and there over the years but now we're _really_ talking about "blips" on the screen. You are scaring me now (you're so far off base). Your usual rubbish (hysteria) is bad enough, but now you propose to tell me about my own city? I don't think so. There's only so much cognitive dissonance I can tollerate. (Please get some help.)

Now here is a person who lives in a major bubble.  I'd say you are the one who has really flipped your lid.

It's hard to believe the R critics of 'OBAMAcare' don't have an alternative in place. They've had 6 years to work on it, WTH? I suspect the hold up might have to do with a$$uring the insurance companies and Big Pharma their profit margins won't take a hit.

Hmm, Not Sure why an alternative is needed?  I am sure if O(him-who)Care is repealed, health care prices will necessarily take a nose-dive to pre-O(him-who)Care levels, n'est pas?

When I was in grade school, the number of funding sources was anywhere between a rough estimate that was counted as correct if it came close or 32 in Base 8, according to whatever was considered the "new math" at the moment. It changed so often, I'm surprised I can count to twenty without taking off my socks, but I am grateful to this day that my school district taught me faniks at an early age.

.. He won't resurrect the steel industry..

He could give it a try, no reason to sell all the scrap steel to China.

I'm too lazy to research really, although this the article behind this paywall's title is interesting:

http://www.joc.com/international-trade-news/trade-data/united-states-trade-data/us-scrap-exports-china-losing-their-luster_20130603.html

For all I know it's an old story from years ago, and/or some liberal/union fake news site..

In anycase, it seems silly to send scrap metal to China only to have it melted down and turned into cheaply made product that is then sent back to US.  I realize some of the metal remains in the local market, they need cars and bicycles and pots and pans and what-not, but then so do we.  It would be nice to buy a well-made American tool that actually lasts awhile, I seem to think Sears and Roebucks' Craftsman line was once MIA (Made In Amercia).

I for one, get tired of the tools that my light manufacturing workplace provides being cheap, non-durable Chinese made stuff that ends up in a scrap heap destined for a Chinese smelting/reprocessing plant only to be resold back to my employer.  I think that takes recycling too far...

THANKS OBAMA@ NIXON!

ediot:  I vaguely recall a Shop Class that I greatly enjoyed in my last years in the public education system, there wasn't an available class at the parochial high school I attended.  Well, pottery class, which I enjoyed but mainly made ash-trays. I digress, do "they" allow a real Shop Class in public school these days?  Band-saws, metal casting and all that other good stuff or have we completely abandoned ourselves as a nation to a service-industry economy like the Britlers?

If true, it sounds like the job market in KC might experience an uptick, I suppose that's good news for any honest 'mericans seeking employment in the lawn maintenance, food & beverage, and construction industries.

I don't see the downside hear?

Swishy Marches ok. ;D

I will admit though, that just in the last two years or so there's been an increase of less ruley (though still small) Marches that might devolve into a couple broken windows or the like. There is now almost a pattern of small (50-150 person) fairly regular marches usually starting at 24th and Mission heading north down the middle of the st., blocking traffic, making lots of noise, drawing twice as many spectators on the sidewalks pacing along side perhaps. They extend usually less than one block in length, zig-zag over to Valencia and then maybe finally down to Civic Center, usually with police escort front and back, and usually fairly uneventful. Occaisionally one of these will take a more nasty turn (by just a few bad-boy young punks) but/and the marches themselves are again in low-numbers fast-miving and short-lived, a brief passing parade essentially. The ones that do get out of hand are usually those prompted by and in respose to a Police shooting or excessive use-of-force and draw/attract a somewhat thuggier participation than most. But again, with is a fairly recent new developement (last 2 or 3 years really).

Well, there is no pleasant time to experience an ICE Raid, but this tactic is just a bit too distasteful for me.
