Yeah, I don't know what Roz is talking about or even which book. I'm always more of fan of someone saying why they think something's a mess than just saying that think it is, which is pretty meaningless in itself. I thought most of his information and recommendations were pretty sound and reasonable.

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted it. Sorry about that. It was a long time ago when I read it. I don't know if I even have it here anymore. If I could find it I could flip through it again to refresh my memory I would. From what I remember it was so dry as to be almost unreadable, it was a rehash of the obvious: eat produce and grains but if you want to eat something unhealthy once in awhile, do it. I am going to have to find it to give you a better review. I should have just deleted the post.

Many herbs have components that certainly will have a an effect on the body. People should just be open about what they're taking with their doctors so that they know to check for possible interactions with other medications you may be on and either adjust that or advise you accordingly about whether you should be taking both or not. For example, if you're on an SSRI you probably shouldn't be taking St. John's Wort because it really does have a similar (although weaker) effect. While not enough serotonin can cause depression in some people too much can be very dangerous, even fatal in some cases.

I'm on an SSRI and I've taken St. John's Wort while on it. Can confirm it's problematic.

I suppose I could look at my Amazon account to see what book it was but that seems like a lot of trouble right now, heh. I'm such a bad poster.

The book I have from Weil is "Eating well for optimum health", published in 2000. So a bit dated now. I guess the weird part I referenced was a kind of spiritual philosophy he had. I don't remember the details. But I just thumbed through it and I agree with MD that most seems pretty solid. I would bet he has an updated text by now.

Dr. Weil started out as somewhat of a consciousness aficionado. His "Natural Mind" is a discussion about what is being high. Good stuff.

Right! I remember that now that you bring it up. He studied and worked under Richard Alpert, and Timothy Leary in their early days when they were still doing actual research and hadn't become counterculture gurus yet. I haven''t read them but his first couple books were about drug induced alterations of consciousness; magic mushrooms and cultures that still use them, etc. I should really try to track them down and check them out. I'm doubtful digital copies will exist.

Yep. The Marriage Of The Sun And Moon is another of his mind expanded works. He was actually partially responsible for Leary/Alpert/Metzner being let go from Harvard inasmuch as he was authoring articles in The Harvard Review questioning their methodologies as I recall. At the time he was concerned that there would be political blowback from the Leary camp's overreaching which would impede legitimate research into the actions and potentials of psychedelic therapy. Although it appears that Weil may have been correct in his assesment, I personally believe that the reason that the research ban was only recently lifted is that the controllers decided way back in the sixties that as a cultural species, we were not yet ready to open Pandora's Psychedelic Mystery Jukebox. Leary et al were just easy takedowns in order to make the point that some science is just too dangerous to allow. Even a cursory reading on MKultra and Project Artichoke will show that only the most evil of bastards were given free access to fucking with people's minds largely against their will, at will. Fuckers.

Jesus. I'm allergic to B3, all multivitamins and vitamin infused drinks, any pill that's a jell cap, something is certain brands of soap, and on and on. When I find something that works for me, that I'm not allergic to, I consider myself very lucky, and the protein shake gave me no side effects at all.

But forget I mentioned it. I'm not really into the homeopathy thing anyway.
I used to have a problem with one of the B's.

What I'd like to tell you is that sometimes these sensitivities just go away.

After years of abstaining I can now have cheeses and ice cream.  People can react to dairy without it being lactose in particular causing the problem.  I am now taking a multiple B, but only with food. It seems to no longer be a problem.

So, good luck, and I hope your problems dissipate as well.

I'm not sure if that's true about the herbs. (I'll take you at your word as to be hammered, lol). You can get Kava Kava root over the counter, it helps you relax and is bad for your liver. Also a few herbs have a warning on the bottle to not take if you are on serotonin re-uptake inhibitors.
Yes.  A person really has to do a bit of study on such things.  I remember when red yeast rice was touted as a natural assist for cholesterol problems, but it can be just as damaging for the liver as are the statin drugs, so what's the point?

Amy should do another one of those youtube movie screenings. That was pretty cool. Not many bellgabbers showed up though.

We tried to get one going over the weekend, but by then, everyone was watching Game of Thrones.

I think there's going to be a double-feature lined up for this next weekend, hosted once again by Mike B.

Nice. I would have never thought to watch the last movie, and I'm glad I did. That was fun.

I found it in a horror-movie box set several years back. It's become a favorite of mine.

LOL. That movie was on TCM last night. Classic!

That's the difference between GravitySucks, Amy and TigerLily.  You dream great things and we like to laugh at other people's misfortunes
