It was a good show, and a great subject. Hoagland calmed down as the show went on. Aside from his ego-driven anecdotes,  it was an enjoyable show.  I just don't understand Hoagland's constant need to prove himself.

Jesus Richard, you're trying to connect 1950's Asimov robotics laws to Musk's own rather dated ideas with modern thought on superintelligence. It doesn't work like that.

Well, I'm afraid to say I haven't learned anything about Asimov tonight except that he could think and type fast.  I think I'll be signing off.  Braaps all.

Braaps dude.  Btw there was a cool show, on science channel or such, which showed how certain authors had envisioned the future, and the Asimov one was good - you may want to seek it out.  They also did PKD and Clarke and others.

The guest is mentioning Asimov's the Last Question ... anyone interested, check out my post a few pages earlier on tonite's thread.

I personally struggled to stay with the show, it seemed so condescending.

I have been to the Hemingway house in Key West more times than i can remember, i also am close friends with the woman that takes care of the Hemingway 6 toed cats, its cool but a tourist trap.

I called into Dave a few months ago when he had an author of a book about Robert on, and asked if Hemingway knew of Robert or his owner. There's apparently a painting by Robert's owner in the Hemingway House. Blew my mind there was a connection.

It is flawed (especially the later parts) ... but still quite an interesting vision of a future nanotech / steampunk society.

Okay -- that and Neuromancer are on my list.  Am I the only one who loved Snow Crash?  (Or am I showing my sci-fi naivety?)

Damn...all the peeps checking out before the show ends!  ???

I used to date Robert Plant.

Well, I woke up underneath him one morning at the Edgewater in Seattle.

Were there fish involved?
