I might try The Diamond Age on your recommendation (if that's what this is).  I tried reading a couple of Neal Stephenson's books (because I absolutely loved Snow Crash) but just couldn't get into them -- couldn't even plow through.  I'll check out The Diamond Age.

It is flawed (especially the later parts) ... but still quite an interesting vision of a future nanotech / steampunk society.

He may have been a nut but when i was young i read A Farewell to Arms and it got me to read more books, so i thank him for that.
