X-FILES coming back on the air, two new INDEPENDENCE DAY movies in pre-production... the time is perfect for the return of Art Bell!

QuoteChris [Carter] is interested, both David and Gillian are interested.

Somewhere buried in this reddit AMA, Anderson and Duchovny talk about wanting to do the show again. I think they mention Vince Gilligan is interested in returning as well.

That was a year ago and they were trying to get people to write to Fox to request it. They all genuinely seem to want to do it.

Gillian Anderson is doing some show in the U.K as far as I know.

I'd rather remember Gillian Anderson as she was.  Now she's old -- almost a month older than me.

Actually, she's rather striking looking. Here is a picture of her from just this month.

It's always tough to live up to a great original series.  I was disappointed in the movies.

If it comes back on the tube, I hope it's for more than six weeks.

If "X-Files" comes back, I will not be surprised if it goes the same route as "Dark Matter".  Not predicting it will fold in six weeks, but I do think the show faces the exact same issues that made Art's return to radio a non-starter almost from day one.

First and foremost, the genre has been over done.  TV is saturated with paranormal programming, both reality and drama; the same thing applies to conspiracy theory programming.  What was a novel, once a week look into the unknown is now on multiple times a night on a myriad of channels/networks.  Further, the two technological advances the "X-Files" played up back in the day, the internet and cell phones, are no longer a "gee whiz" source of wonderment to the average TV viewer as it was 20+ years ago.  Today's kids are going to shrug their shoulders when the "Lone Gunmen" find/hack some obscure website, then call the agents in a dark alley somewhere via cell to let them know.

Fans of the original show will watch initially for nostalgia purposes, but soon will realize the concept is dated and they've grown beyond it.  Just like "Dark Matter", it will retain a vocal, loyal following that will slowly fade. I just hope Carter/Duchovny/Anderson et al don't whine/point fingers/quit when their audience numbers go tits-up

Personally, rather than a new TV series I think they should just do a new modestly-budgeted movie (or series of movies) tied directly into the alien abduction mythology of the series.  The weirdo Frankenstein one-shot thing they tried to do in the 2nd movie was terrible.  The first X-FILES movie was much better (though still not as good as it could've been) because it was about aliens and government conspiracies, the lifeblood of the series.

Good points.  The original was a hit not only due to the actors but also because it was creative, different, and had an edgy vibe, with good stories.  I wouldn't mind some similar storylines, but I'd really enjoy something different with VERY creative writing.  I'd hate to see the current Hollywood crowd just do the usual formulaic approach for a new series.  It would be like watching what PremRat and Noory have done to C2C.

I hope they video Gillian and Dave pissing each other off (shouldn't have long to wait). It was brilliant in it's day, but as said above, no longer 'new'. And it's audience has (hopefully) grown up and moved on.

There hasn't been one, good procedural-like monster-of-the-week show since though. Fringe tried, but it felt like a cheap knockoff. Most of what's barely comparable these days is dreg for teenagers on the CW. As long as the original writers are brought back, it sounds to me like it would be worthwhile. And as long as Anderson gets her red hair back.

Why not throw in a twist.  Make the the Y-Files.  And the Y stands for Yoga.

I've heard rumors that Fox is doing a 25th anniversary thing for the X-Files in Fall, 2018, including a remake of it's original lead-in on Friday nights, "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr". So, that's only like 1300 days away. Get ready! Fall, 2018 will only be 2 and half years from Art's latest retirement.

I hope they use old footage of Gillian Anderson

It would be nice to see an X-Files reboot but I doubt it would be as good as the original. I loved that show.

It was perfect for cold, dark Friday nights.

Speaking as the world`s most passionate X-FILES fan, this possible development comes as a very pleasant surprise. Time will tell. Until then, I thought I would toss a little bone out to all the Xphile shippers out there (you know who you are). Enjoy:

Jorge don't push the button... yeah, that's when I gave up on this poopfest of The Littlest Hobo level acting.

First episode - Scully and Mulder expose Ancient Aliens and other paranormal bullshitters for the frauds they are

I was a huge fan of the X Files but now that I no longer believe in gubbedment conspiracy and crop circles I don't know that it'd hold my attention. Maybe it will take place in a post disclosure reality that has turned the world upside down

Probably wear a bad toupee, with a porn stache, and eat lots of turkey sandwiches.  He'll have a gay sidekick by the name of Timmy.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Wonder if the Smoking Man will smoke e-cigs now?

He was literally blown apart in the finale, so I can't see them bringing him back unless it's in a flashback...
