ISIS

Well, I just heard that Eric Holder is planning to open up a criminal investigation on this.

The real killers will be brought to justice.

Yep, feelin` better already!

I wouldn't have started with the assumption the Muslims were the victims, and our WWII allies the Serbs were the enemy.

IMO, NATO (i.e., the United States) shouldn't have been involved at all.  The Europeans should have handled it.

Okay, we know what you wouldn't have done; now please tell us what should have been done, and don't forget to show your work.

Of course they are.  They rooted out the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood that had taken over their country and were taking it over the cliff.

Obama is likely a MB member.  If not he's certainly a sympathizer.  Since they kicked the MB out, he's now trying to turn Egypt into an enemy.  They've already turned to Russia for support and military equipment.  It took decades of diplomacy to get Nasser's Egypt to become a friend and ally.  Sadat was murdered by the MB for doing so.

Egypt is an extremely important country.  Half of all Arabs are Egyptian, and they have the biggest military in the region other than Irael.  They have considerable influence in the Arab League.  And Obama just threw our friendship and alliance with them away.

I see no evidence that relationship has been damaged; I point to Egypt's attempts to help us broker peace in the IDF/Hamas slugfest.  Was it not Eqypt who proposed a cease-fire agreement (since lapsed) that Israel readily agreed and Hamas hemmed and hawed?
Don't sell Egypt or US short; we don't have to hold hands to be partners in peace.

QuoteYour response to assisting Assad to fight off al-Qaeda.

Since Obama didn't lift a finger to help the non-terrorist rebels in Syria when he could, they are now pretty much out of the fight.

Can you not look down the road - the next rulers of Syria will either be Assad or al-Qaeda.  It won't be anyone we like.  Just like Libya, Iraq, Iran after the Shah, Egypt, Somalia, and all the rest after their strongmen were deposed.  Are you capable of understanding the difference between bad and worse?

Yes, I am.
Bashir Al-Assad is the reason ISIS (or ISIL) was able to rally fighters to its' cause.  They weren't effective in Iraq until al-Maliki tried to play gangster and rub out all Sunni Iraqi government personnel.  Blame Assad and Maliki, not Obama.  Not to mention the protective airstrikes to help Peshmerga operations, John McCain's doing?  No, Chuck Hagel and Barack Obama.
So yes: ISIS awful; corrupt, murderous pigs like Assad and Maliki, (marginally) worse. ISIS can be readily dispersed through counter terrorist operations and by re-establishing law and order in Iraq and Syria.

QuoteSame concept as the coming likely dollar crisis you like to mock.

Well, you've been chicken-little-ing this since I first read this site in during the 2010 midterms (just after Art disappeared from Coast).  There has to be statute of limitations on this "crisis", or are you relying on the "broken clock" theory?  Read Jim Cramer's blog today; rail shipments are up on everything but coal because this economy is rebounding.  Read Krugman from Monday; the real economic crisis is that China is waaaaay overleveraged. Might actually work to our advantage.

QuoteJust because something isn't happening today doesn't mean it isn't coming.

The end of the world is coming, someday.  Point being it's not the foreseeable future, so why hang your hat on it?

QuoteIran doesn't have a nuclear weapon today, but they are still working on one.  Do you think they should have it?

Of course not.  Stuxnet was just the beginning; they will never deploy an actionable warhead.

QuoteThis treaty took off the sanctions and lets them work on it with our approval.  Because it allows the people like Obama to go on believing their vision of a non-aggressive, non-terrorist state, non-nuclear equipped Iran is on the table.  It isn't, he is being played.

Maybe, but so is China, France, UK, Germany, and other folks involved in the negotiation.
Not saying it isn't possible, just not likely.

Except there was not one insult in my response.

Oh, I get that.

It's why the rest of us should not be voting Democrat or listening to the 'Progressives'

Except that "the rest of you" are a fast-shrinking political minority, relying too much on wealth manipulation to maintain power.  Plus you guys don't even trust each other.

QuoteI get it that you don't.  He's not hurting the country economically either, amiright?

QuoteYou asked me a about it, and I gave you some ideas of how things could of been done better or differently - both for world peace and national security.  What it would look like if we had a leader in the White House, someone with our best interests at heart.

I'm sorry, but what you did was to insult two honorable combat veterans and experienced statesmen.  That and tossed in yet another slur about Obama not having our "interests" at heart or some such other demagoguery.

I have seen nothing from conservatives (including a recent installment of Frontline where Ryan Crocker called ISIS "Al-Qaeda 6.0" because they were "six times worse than Al-Qaeda ever was") but chicken hawk screams for more Crusades.
As to ISIS and their threat to the US?  Let's see, Al-Qaeda destroyed the World Trade Center and over 3000 lives on 9/11; ISIS was last seen fleeing from unmanned drones and abandoning the Mosul Dam to the Peshmerga.  Advantage: Al-Qaeda.
I'm not making light of ISIS; they're murderous pigs.  I cannot respect conservative calls for more military action because they fucked up in the first place.  Besides, I am done paying Halliburton for logistical support (including packing lunches).

QuoteWe all want a world where we don't have to spend money on police, on prisons, and on the military.  Problem is, we can't have the world we want simply because we want it.  We can't operate as if criminals and people like ISIS, Putin, the Chinese and Iranian governments don't exist, or if we could just get rid of the Saddams, the al-Assads, the Mubareks, and the Khadafys, that better people will automatically take their place.  It's foolish - and deadly - to think it will either all go away, or at least not effect us, if we ignore it.

Right, so why start wars in these nations if we have no commitment to end them with a firm democracy in place?
Before we go on any crusades, I'd like to see us bring democracy back to this country.

QuoteI'm not going to bother arguing about it, you're far enough gone that nothing anyone would say would convince you of anything.
Only because you speak in vague generalities under the presumption "Obama bad; everything Obama do bad."

Plus, what "interests" do we have for which our people should made to put their lives on the line?

QuoteI would like to know though, when did Israel ever start anything?

Cute, Perry Mason.
You know damn well Israel never "starts" anything.  They negotiate until they reach the inevitable impasse where they dictate the opposing party must explicitly recognize Israel's right to exist.  Then the run away screaming about how they have no partners in peace.  Then they use that excuse to ramp up the construction on the West Bank and close border crossings from Gaza.
By this time, pissed off Palestinian start firing rockets or kidnapping people, to which Israel responds with airstrikes, tank fire, mortar attacks, drone attacks, and occupying troops.
Most of the world calls "bullshit" but we say "Israel - wrong or right."  Why is it wrong to hold Israel to account, too?

There were atrocities on all sides in that Balkan conflict. So I wouldn't have bombed the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade and got into a tense standoff with the Russians over the protection of some radical Islamists, terrorists, and criminal gangs (sex trafficking, drugs&guns, and even human body parts.) And then give Kosovo over to the radical Muslims. I say let the Serb take out the invaders as they did centuries before when they defended Europe. The only people who know how to deal with radicals like ISIL/ISIS/IS are people like Assad, the Russians, Slavs like the Serbs, the Kurds, Iran, etc. And it isn't pretty, but neither is what they do, so I don't have sympathy.

So putting the Serbs in charge of everything will put an end to eight or so centuries of ethnic and religious based hatred and violence and bring peace to the region in short order.  That's such a simple and elegant solution, and one all parties are sure to embrace, especially the Croats.  Too bad it took so long for someone to figure that out, because it could have prevented a lot of needless suffering and bloodshed.

Yeah, but sadly it's elegance and simplicity has overlooked the major flaw, and I'm surprised you're resisting the temptation to even hint at it.

Namely Albrecht's admission that it 'isn't pretty' is a little like saying falling down a mine shaft might bruise. Still if genocide is acceptable, to one, it's acceptable to all. I don't think he's heard of the massacre at Srebrenica, also known as the Srebrenica genocide, when in July 1995 more than 8,000 Bosniaks, mainly men and boys, in and around the town of Srebrenica during the Bosnian War.

My friend went into a warehouse where the heads of men, women and children (all Muslims) had been placed on sharpened posts set into the ground. The bodies had been been thrown in a trench, had petrol poured on them, and set alight-including several babies.

Yep, it ain't pretty...

Next time around can we elect a president with some experience running something?  Anything?  A hot dog stand?  This guy would've been a great concert promoter, what with his experience stapling flyers on telephone poles as a communisty organizer, but he's a far, far, far cry from being qualified for his current position.

Really?

- $7 trillion in new national debt under Obama…after he promised to decrease the deficit.
- Obamacare - or are you calling that a success?
- Prematurely left Iraq and pronounced it "stable" so it could implode.  And then said it wasn't his idea.
- Meddling in local events, pouring gas on the fires of the Trayvon Martin and Ferguson MO incidents.
- An intentional refusal to enforce federal immigration laws.
- Solyndra?  Fast and Furious?  Benghazi? The politicization of the IRS?
- Violated the Constitution by using drone strikes to kill American citizens abroad without due process.
- Using taxpayer dollars to bail out the private pension funds of autoworkers’ unions at GM & Chrysler.

He made comments that in essence condemned a man without a trial first.
Before all the evidence was collected, even.  Catastrophic error.
