Gaddafi actually piped the fuck down after Reagan bombed his ass.

Liberals went buck wild when Reagan bombed Libya. Throwing around typical left wing hysteria, calling for his impeachment. Claiming it would accomplish nothing. After 1987 Muammar Muhammad Abu Obama Minyar al-Gaddafi was completely irrelevant.

My favorite Liberal hysteria moment was when Barbara Boxer, the distinguished congresswoman from San Francisco went nuts when Bush Sr. lead the way into Kuwait. Calling for his impeachment. Claiming we'd lose 500k troops and it would be another Vietnam. War protestors shut down the bay bridge. Gotta love Liberal idiots, the gift that keeps on giving. Oh by the way a few years later she rode Clinton's coattails into office and has now been an irrelevant Senator for 22 years. She has increased her net worth by 100 million.

... The one thing it seems they don't do?  Accurately and adequately prepare for contingency scenarios.

We have a President who repeatedly claims he didn't know about (fill in the blank) until he saw it on the news.  His daily schedule often omits a daily security briefing, or shows it scheduled for late afternoon or evening instead of first thing in the morning.

They can draw up all the scenarios they want, prepare all the briefings they want, strategize all they want.  If it all falls on deaf ears, or is ignored completely - because these White House hacks think they know better than anyone else - it won't do much good.

Think about all the things Obama claims he had no knowledge about.  All the times he was as 'outraged' as the rest of us by some event or issue, and was going to launch a 'full investigation' of it.  All the times he was 'not going to rest until' he 'got to the bottom of' whatever the current scandal was.  All talk.  Just say something now to appease people and put them off for awhile, and hope it's soon forgotten.  He knows his accomplices in the Media certainly won't bring it up again.

The fact is he's a liar.  About everything.  And an incompetent one.  Don't blame that on the planners at the Pentagon.

Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein in the Senate and Nancy Pelosi in the House Leadership.

Three rich, old, out of touch, Liberal/Left scummy San Francisco politicians.  And - other than the power of the offices they hold - they aren't even the worst of the SF pols.

I wonder how much each of them have ripped the country off by steering deals and tax dollars to their husbands and other family members?  It appears to be so much more than they could ever spend that it must be a sort of a competition between them.

I don't, but I don't think the Pentagon engages in the level of planning you attribute to them.

What truly boggles my mind is, what kind of people could possibly keep voting for them?

Get the Kurds on board?

Our long time allies have been begging for weapons and ammo for months.

I think it would be a useful idea to have the ones who blame Obama for everything to go to Syria and Iraq and see how simple the situation is. Take notes on the near civil war in Iraq, the collapse of Syria and of course the mess that involves both. Naturally they'll have a handle on the literally hundreds of separate factions that in many cases fight each other. They'll know exactly who is friendly and not. What can possibly go wrong?

Your post mentioned getting the Kurds onboard.  They're onboard.

What we need to do is get this President onboard.  Too bad his world view was concocted in Rev Wright's church.

Stop being so one dimensional. The situation in that region is incredibly complicated. It isn't just a case of doing A B and C and it will all be fluffy. It won't. You'll be the first if major action (of any sort) against faction A B or C proved to have been in error. Do you think nothing is going on? Just because FOX and CNN aren't showing the daily video games they did with GW 1 and 2? One of the first rules of warfare is knowing your enemy, which is easy if they wear a recognised uniform and carry a banner and have a headquarters. This isn't like that, and trying to break it down into simple terms is ludicrous. To blame Obama is more so.

Growing urgency
But the Sunni rebels, who say they can mobilise 90% of the tribes, believe that only they can tackle IS, with outside help.

The Iraqi army has shown little capability or cohesion in the field, and to defend Baghdad, Mr Maliki had to rely heavily on mobilising Shia militias and volunteers.

If such forces are thrown into battle against IS-held Sunni areas with US air support under a new al-Abadi government, the Americans might find themselves doing what they have been trying to avoid - backing one side in a sectarian civil war involving horrendous carnage and destruction.

This President has distain for the United States, for the UK, for Israel, and for the West.  He either has a blind spot for Jihadist Islam, or he's one of them.  For sure he's not one of us.

The choices in some of these countries is not dictatorship or democracy, it's dictatorship or an Islamist terrorist state.  Which is something Bush II didn't understand with Iraq.

When the people of Iran rose up, Obama ignored them.  When the people of Libya rose up, he ignored them and only joined in after Sunni terrorist thugs stole their revolution, and then he helped the Islamists.  Same with Egypt.  Same with Syria.

Now that the patriotic Egyptian army threw out the Moslem Brotherhood, Obama is doing what he can to punish and alienate our long time allies there.

He was eager to bomb al-Qaeda's list of targets in Syria before our entire country rose up and told him NO.

The fact is Obama left Iraq without adequate security, and told us al-Qaeda 'was on the run'.  He receives daily national security briefings which would certainly have covered al-Qaeda-in-Iraq's rise and rebranding as ISIS/ISIL.  He dithered for months as they gained strength, as they gathered weapons, as they got recruits, as they got funding, as they murdered their way across eastern Syria and northern Iraq.  When even the Media asked him about it he dismissed them as the 'JV team'.

If you don't know what's going on over there, I suggest you do a little research and catch up.  If your intent is to protect poor little mistreated Barry Obama, and pretend this is all an unavoidable surprise, I guess you can do that, but it's a bit absurd.

As far as 'knowing who is friendly and who is not', we are well advised to not get into all that.  Whoever wants to help is welcome to.  We know ISIL s our enemy, and they need to be eradicated.  The thing about these various groups is they tell us who they are and what their goals are, it's just that whooly headed Libs want to pretend they don't really mean it and it's all a big mystery.

You think it would be useful for those who blame Obama for his incompetence go over there?  I suggest those still supporting him take a look at his foreign and domestic record so far and ask themselves why.

And what would be so wrong with allowing every faction, sect, family feud, "royal houses", dictator, terrorist group, religious group, country over there fight each other? Providing/selling arms to the various groups depending on the progress of the battles. Or which side we support now. It is not like this hasn't been used before with some success. I would much rather keep them all fighting over there, than have them move here or fight us. I would rather have Shites and Sunnis killing each other, than killing us. And side benefit is that radical Muslims would be killed no matter who wins.

It could be argued that the destabilization of the area IS the actual foreign policy goal for a long time. Look how we mobilized the Bedouin. Look how the borders were drawn after Ottoman defeat. Look at what tinpot "royal" houses we decided to support. Look at what leaders we helped "eliminate." Look how we support someone one decade and then support his over-thrown another. As it keeps oil&gas prices volatile (which bankers and speculators love, producers not so much but the "big boys" can handle it), keeps arms sales going, instills fear in the populace at home which helps votes, and ensures at least some deaths of the crazies over there.
Call me a cynic but....

Well, they certainly didn't seem to have a plan for a Jihadist take over of the white house, did they?

Unless .... OMG, the CIA is riddled with Jihadists, too!  It is the only explanation!

Well, that pretty much sums up your approach to things, doesn't it?  If someone you like says it, you praise that person and admire the wisdom of the thought.  But if that same exact thought, word for word, was previously expressed by someone you dislike, then it makes you sick to your stomach.

I would love to see the great tranny political debate during the last election. Michelle vs Ann. Ticket sales would go for $$. And certainly more interesting than the talking point memos and platitudes we get during the Presidential debate. And it would be "inclusive" so Hollywood and the media would hype it up. Perhaps hosted by that bitter old comedienne currently in a coma who thinks Obama is a homosexual and Michelle is a tranny?

He seems like a pretty smart fellow.  It strikes me that they are demanding that the world convert to Islam or they will kill.  The logical response is to demand that they convert to Christianity (or atheism) or we will kill them.

They are presently demanding people convert.  Upon conversing they kill them (arguing that they are now going to paradise.)  We could do the same thing.  Demand they convert and then kill them anyhow.

I think we should base our foreign policy to mimic ISIL... They really seem to be reasonable, level headed people.

Whether we (the collective we) want top admit it or not, we ARE in a Religious war, and my money says they aren't going to spare your neck just because you tell them you aren't a Christian or Jew...

Wait, I thought we were outraged because Muslim extremists demand people convert to Islam or die... Now we are saying Muslims must convert or die.  Curiouser and curiouser.

I guess the idea is that we have to fight fire with fire. (But actually water or chemicals are far better in fighting fires!) Forced conversion and higher taxes stuff didn't work too well for Spain, Portugal, etc where the non-Catholics just went underground post La Reconquista. Or adopting savages into your empire as befell the Romans. Far better to kill them all, I say, like the French did when they retook their land from the Muslims. Then re-populate with said lands with good people from the homeland not with "converted" people. It is not pretty but, if we must fight them, maybe we can outsource much of it to the Slavic people who know how to handle them- since they have been fighting them for so long? Forget trying to convert or negotiate with savages.

We are not fighting rational people - we simply MUST use tactics that will dissuade anyone left still breathing from contemplating anything but humble submission to us, if they want to live in peace. We have already demonstrated that if they go about their lives without committing terrorcide, we will leave them alone.

We need a George S. Patton and he needs to be unleashed and allowed to do his thing - and the media should shut the fuck up about it.

I have also read quite a bit about ole George...
