Communion 1989
According to imdb trivia, during filming, Whitley Streiber expressed concern to Christopher Walken that Walken was playing him "too crazy." Walken replied "If the shoe fits."

Shaun of the Dead
Hot Fuzz

Best zombie apocalypse and cop buddy movies ever. Perfect end to a lovely day.

On to The World's End

"the secret life of walter mitty" was watched earlier tonight when I made pancakes for dinner.  Very forrest gump-like.  I gotta say I liked it but really didn't have to put much thought into it... the plot is pretty predictable but it wasn't like I was yelling out loud.  I did, however, laugh out loud quite a few times... it was a comedy after all.

I like American Hustle but reading bateman's scathing review makes me think I missed something?  I liked Bale but maybe thats because I know he's a nutcase who likes to physically transform himself for roles.  Bradley Cooper I'm afraid is just always going to play the same dude in every movie he's in now.  I liked him in the first movie I seen him in a few years back... it was about some crazy pill that makes you uber smart or something.  Plot-wise I dunno I kinda knew it was gonna be some sort of funky double-cross "did ya see he never put the key in the envelope?" type of movie.  btw thats not a spoiler.  Anyway's there was like a sub-plot thing between a few women in the film that I found interesting.  Amy Adams n Jennifer Lawrence were nice to look at.  Adams looks like a young Nicole Kidman back in the day... before she became english.

Watched Tropic Thunder with The Mrs last night. She thought I was great in it. She especially appreciated how Kirk Lazarus says the word " Burbank" in one scene. Who knew?

How was it that RDJ JR played blackface in this movie and no one went apeshit?

Funniest movie E V E R

The Act Of Killing

Incredibly poignant, but riveting film. One of the best films I have ever watched.

Have you read the original James Thurber story?
I enjoyed the womens' clothes in American Hustle, too. I'm old enough to remember the seventies though and I think that the mens' clothes were more authentic to the time. I don't know how Amy Adams wore those tops that plunged down her chest w/o wardrobe malfunctions. It would certainly happen in real life. Must be adhesive, or retakes.
I also like Jeep's Blues.

I know that a lot of people hated this but I liked it. It actually made me cry.

No I haven't read any fiction in years... didn't even know it was a book til you asked lol... apparently they made the movie while he was still alive and he hated it... wonder what he would think of this one?
mostly tho I'm reading science-ish articles and natgeo type stuff online.  History and technical subject matter pops up a lot as well... I haven't actually curled up with a book in forever.

"I know who I am. I'm a dude, playing another dude, disguised as another dude."

I like how he spends the entire movie in character and it only takes one brief look in a mirror for him to have an existential meltdown.

Jesus and the Shroud of Turin

Just watched this fascinating documentary on Youtube. Most compelling, as well as....exciting!

Musical comedy with Ronald Reagan and Virgina Mayo.

Just saw Blue Jasmine. Cate Blanchett did a remarkable job. I liked the movie... although I am not sure why. Kind of a study on people inhabiting their vacuous lives.

I watched it.  I really don't get woody allen sometimes.  You summed it up well though.  It wasn't a movie I had to really put my brain into.  Like a lot of Woody's work there were many "characters" if you know what I mean.  He always gets a lot of good actors to do cameos too... one funny person to see acting again was Dice.

Watched "the Human Race" late last night.  It seemed a bit low budget at first and I reall didnt recognize many actors in it so I'm pretty sure its just some B horror/sci-fi type of movie.  Had a "running man"/"hunger games" thing going.  "Battle Royale" also comes to mind.  I really enjoyed it.  There was some unconventional story telling done where the movie seemed to center on a couple peripheral characters seemingly out of nowhere... kinda threw me.  Anyway I liked it for what it was even though these survivor themed movies are getting a bit overdone.  Reminded me of the "Cube" movies too!! I liked them as well even though they weren't really full budget flicks....  hehe "flicks"

I'm waiting for a documentary about the life of falkie or casio.

HorrorRetro

Behind the Candelabra.  The makeup effects are amazing. The whole movie is so over the top, it's quite comical.

Two European animated films. Both highly recommended.

The Illusionist (2010)
This film has beautiful animation and very little dialogue. The colors are restrained and have a very water color painting feel to them which is a big change from today's animated flicks of "pump up the brightness". The story is sad, as it deals with growing old, loss of skills, and becoming unwanted. The complementary story, about a young girl that journeys to the city lacked depth (a standard girl moves to city, goes shopping, gets pretty, meets guy) story.
Overall an excellent movie.

Ernest and Celestine (2012)
A poor mouse and a grumpy bear become best friends in this odd couple trope film. Also with a subdued water color palette in direct opposition to the current popular Hollywood animated movies.  The story has been told before, but this one does it well. This is a case of doing the fantastic with the familiar. Not sure if there is an official US release yet, but if you see it, add it to your netflix queue.

Thats a good one. Sardondi loved that movie.

Thanks for posting in here yumyumtree, always good to get new recommendations. Some of the movies you post though are very hard to get access to.

That would probably make an amusing French animated film. We could turn them into animals. Casio as a water buffalo and Falkie as his lion friend.

Recent release: Nebraska.  See it with your mom, you won't regret it.

Older stuff: Through Deaf Eyes.  A history lesson that is informative and entertaining at the same time.  The sequence about "Deaf President Now" was riveting.  Backed up and watched it twice.
