Very sad. I had heard that they were administering experimental drugs. God bless him and his family.

Well, crap.  I was hoping that the dialysis and experimental meds would bring him back.  That's a loss for our med teams.

On a brighter note, a flight originating fm Dallas, Tex had an emergency landing at Midland Tex because a female patient became ill and there were/are fears that it is Ebola.  Hmm, maybe not so bright.....
They let her on the plane, it takes off and within half an hour or so they start looking for an emergency landing.  They didn't even clear Tex air space.  Who are the dumb sons a bitches that let her board anyway?

Oh, yeah.  she's fm Instabul, Turkey.

I am a little surprised nobody has mentioned the health care worker in Spain... I find it interesting only because Spain is not a backwater country (yes, a bit of an economic basket case, but they are not part of the third world.)  When a healthcare worker is treating Ebola patients and had something fail you have to wonder what the investigation will turn up...

No, I am not wanting to create a panic, and I really appreciate the post from Lt.Uhura.  It is interesting to hear form somebody who would be on the "front lines" of any outbreak and hear their point of view...

Yeah, but it gets his name in the news again.  I have not heard much from him in awhile, and he really seems like somewhat of an attention whore...

This pos flew here, knowing he would infect people he was traveling with, and Americans once he got here.

Hopefully his death will discourage others from doing the same

Now a Sherriff's Deputy who was ordered into the apartment of Thomas Duncan, without protective gear, (Dallas patient zero) has been hospitalized with ebola-like symptoms.  http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2014/10/08/frisco-patient-exhibiting-ebola-symptoms/

But sure, there's nothing to worry about, folks. No biggie.

****"We were told by federal officials, county officials that you would have to come in direct contact with Duncan or direct contact with bodily fluids, and he did not,” said Monnig’s son, Logan, about the possibility of his dad contracting Ebola.

Monning was not one of the 48 people being monitored by federal, state and local health officials because he never had direct contact with the patient.  Monnig did enter the apartment where Duncan stayed after Duncan had been admitted to the hospital.

“He was in the apartment for 30 minutes, which we were told is no chance to contact the virus,” said Logan****

Okay, so IF this deputy DOES test positive for the ebola virus, then do we find it accurate to say the CDC is lying?!?!?!??? I know, far fetched because all governmental agencies tell the truth at ALL times.

Doubtful. I think he came here specifically for treatment, knowing his exposure was significant and it would only be a matter of time until he was ill. I think we will actually see MORE people doing what he did as they have seen how quickly and how aggressively he was treated. U.S. top notch hospital vs hot fly infested tent. They'll all choose the hospital and do anything to get there. Meanwhile, just like the open borders, we're invited them all over with laughable airport "screenings" and free healthcare/hospitalization as the carrot on the stick.

You're consistent if nothing else.  "This pos" bought his air ticket on 2 Sep, to fly to Dallas to get married. Though there is a "pos" represented in your post, it's not Duncan.

How could this be? I mean, they are really on top of this "screening process" at the airports. They take your temperature and ask you if you've had contact with any ill people. No one ever lies. It's really high tech stuff, that screening process. *snorts*

Whether that's true or not (and you sure are quick to believe it), he knew good and well he had it and that he was infectious.

How many Americans will now die because of him?  How much did he cost the US taxpayers (we're broke, you know)?  This is why it costs $25 for an aspirin in the hospital, the rest of us have to cover the expenses for people that don't pay into the system but come here and take advantage of our healthcare system.

what! no passport checking anymore? it would seem to be a simple first screening step.

Apparently Federal Govt is adding some Marines to the Liberian Ebola mix.  As I said at the start of this thing, I don't see what the military is going to do outside actually establish a cordon sanitaire (now that the Marines are involve, I do wonder if that is what is happening, hope so).

Now by cordon sanitaire, I mean people don't get out of the 'hot-zone' until the thing has run its course and is over.  If you want to help, medically or just stand around in solidarity, fine, welcome to Liberia!  But you don't get to leave until we've had 3 months of no new Ebola cases...

I know, I'm dreaming, or drunk or whatever...

I hope huffpo is a good enough source for ya!

How does the hysteria in the media over this outbreak correlate with the fact that less than 10,000 people in all of Africa globally have caught this disease in nearly a year, and less than 4,000 people have died?

The flu is far more contagious, will affect millions to the point they need hospitalisation each year, and kills up to half a million people annually.

The level of hysteria over this Ebola outbreak is getting ridiculous, as if it weren't already.

Because it's coming from deep dark Africa, where "those" people live.

It is like those "Africanized" killer bees that are more aggressive, surly, and attack in mobs and often force local, native bees, who are normally hard-working and peaceful, out of the area.

Nothing to do with it. SARS was another overhyped media created frenzy and it was from China. Sensational is what gets news editors excited so thats what they cover.

All it would take is for one mainstream media outlet to show, side by side, the infection rate and annual fatalities of Ebola versus The Flu, on a fancy graphic with swooshing noises and bright colors (to keep hold the interest of the viewing public for the 30 seconds it would take to explain this to them), and all the mystique and terror over Ebola would evaporate.

At least I'd like to think that.

In reality they'd probably still be pissing their knickers over Ebola.

I agree with you, don't get me wrong, but here are some graphs illustrating why the growth rate of Ebola is a cause for concern in Africa at least.  I've been watching these for the past couple of months and they've remained quite consistent.  I don't think the projection will be accurate though as they're already getting a handle on the disease in Nigeria and Senegal.

they should. the media does not see the forest for the trees. i don't know whether to laugh or cry, not knowing which end is up concerning the media. it never sits well with me.
