But we have "better" science, technology, and logistics today, with a bunch of blistering idiots clinging to power, telling us how smart they are, but somehow, they never see anything coming, and the little people die...

If all the elites were dropping dead from a disease, I would applaud.

When did you decide to be a Communist? They're anti elitist and consider the 'little people' the givers of all.

(sigh)...If only heart disease, alcoholism (and its associated tragedies), suicide, and other major causes of misery and death got this type of headline media coverage!
True, but those things are usually self-inflicted and caused by decisions or life-style of the person. Of course we should still focus on them but Ebola is scary because it kills (in nasty ways although seemingly less hemorrhaging this time than usual strains) and kills "healthy" people. The flu, in various strains, is more deadly overall but we are "used to it" and it, usually, kills the old or young or otherwise at risk. It is natural to fear the unknown or something we can't cure (whereas the stuff you mention, while tragic, have known causes and preventative techniques, mostly.)

I just learned that there are four US hospitals designated and certified by CDC to receive Ebola; in GA, MD, NE and MT.  Why didn't Dallas Presbyt. immediately transfer the two victims to one of these facilities explicitly prepared for them?  WTF?

The post of Surgeon General of the US has been vacant for a year.  Why?  Because the the doctor nominated by the President said that 35,000 gun deaths/year is a health issue in the USA, and the fucking NRA went nuts.

Republican/conservative/Tea Party budget sequestration, i.e. non-prioritized across the board cuts, have slashed the Fed funds for preparation and prevention of contagious disease; CDC's budget has been slashed by over $300M and NIH by over $500M.  There's also a conservative revenge component because after the Sandy Hook slaughter, the CDC had the unmitigated gall to open a study on gun violence in the US as medical stats.

To date in 2014:
Ebola deaths in the US - 1
Gun deaths in the US - around 29,000.

Guess which one conservatives are hysterical over.
Commence flaming!

Right now, as I type, there's a fucking press conference being held live on CNN regarding the Ebola outbreak.

I can only imagine this is to mollify the teeming hordes of Americans who are naturally stupid, ignorant, or prone to hysteria and overreaction.

One fucking death....

When I finally snap I can guarantee I'll kill WAY more Americans from my vantage point in a bell tower than this Ebola 'outbreak' will.

Hold a press conference  about that, you stupid fucks.

Hmm.. let's see.  It takes a conscious choice to pull the trigger, or you could just accidentally get ebola.  I see your comparison there.  Apples to apples!

Don't sell yourself short, General.  You'll always be an epidemiologist to me.

Not that it matters, but Ms Pham is the daughter of Vietnamese refugees. I know a lot of Vietnamese refugees. All very proud, hard working folks that typically raise good, decent, intelligent, productive and successful children. No exception in this case.

But I read in Popular Mechanics that they have no souls.

Well, according to the political right, Obama (Oh that Obama) deliberately  imported Ebola to kill Americans... so it's not even like it's accidental.

Oh that Obama and the Libtards and the leftist, commie, atheist conspiracy.

God and the Bible, son.

That article states that Duncan (patient zero) did not match the doctor donating his blood (and antibodies).  Interesting fact, but clearly the disease is not limited to one blood type, something that would have been noticed long ago if it were the case.

I think we have an ebola patient here in Nebraska but  havent heard anything in a awhile, so I may be mistaken.

It's a reaction to Fox News Channel mongering Ebola hysteria among the idiot right 24/7 for the past two weeks:
"You (Americans) are being lied to",
"Friedan (Dr. Tom Friedan, CDC head) is despicable"
"They (Obama) won't tell you what they know"
"Obama promised Ebola would never get to us".
"Why is Obama hiding behind the CDC?"
"Shut down all travel to "infected Africa"
And that's only about 20 minutes worth from El Generalissimo (Bill O'Reilly) last night.  Not to mention the right wing rants on talk radio all day long.  CNN is slightly less political about it, but just as hysterical.

You have the NBC guy, but he was brought back to the US intentionally...to a special Ebola unit in Omaha.

If anything really bad ever happens, I wonder how many trampling deaths. paranoid shootings, and per-emptive lootings Fox and Friends will be responsible for.

There was a lady who made the front page of the paper here in town. She is from Liberia and said that at least six members of her family have died from ebola. Which made me think..What are the odds that she will try to get her surviving family members to come here? I know its foolish to be paranoid about such things, but I don't want the 'bola.

the people responsible for this should have their children lined up in the street and shot in the face in front of them.

That's not foolish.  That's common sense.  The mistake we made was to bring back those 2 first sick doctors and then cure them with treatment and experimental drugs- and then advertise the hell out of it on worldwide media.  OF COURSE sick/and or/exposed Africans are going to start flocking here.  In droves.  Wouldn't you?  Duncan was just the first.

Yeah, laugh it up.  But with a basic reproduction rate estimated to be R2, that means Americans will die.  Unnecessarily.  That bothers me.

One major fact overlooked in every gun control issue:  Over 60% of gun deaths in the US are suicides--not homicides--and, of those suicides, over 80% are white males.  So much for the right-wing/NRA argument for self-protection against the intruder at your door.  Time to look in the mirror.

But like many governments around the world, democracies or not, the best method for keeping the sheeple under control is to keep them in fear, facilitated by the media--both mainstream and fringe.  In the US, it's typically fear of foreign terrorists, and now an exotic communicable disease that has killed one person.  Meanwhile, the reality in ERs across the country is people are dying everyday, often from lifestyle or psych-social related diseases and injuries that don't make the headline news.  Let's call a press conference for the over 40,000 deaths each year from suicide.

Again, suicide as tragic and costly as it is is a purposeful act. I know leftists even promote it and think it should be a part of healthcare for the elderly or infirm, though not with guns. But back to the point, that is the difference. Of course, we need to address mental health better (and regular health.) But Ebola, and other diseases, can be caught through no fault or action of your own- at least until we get a real vaccine for it. And it kills most of those who catch it, often in a horrible manner.
But I agree about the hype to an extent (look at what is happening in Liberia etc and tell me it is hype) but "if it bleeds it leads" and makes so-called news money and it would not surprise me at all if the government using the Ebola to crack-down on more civil rights.
