I get that no one wants to hear it, even if there are new unchallenged outrages every day.  I guess anything goes sometimes

Being a mental health professional, what do you think of someone that goes to a rally looking for 'racists', doesn't find any and decides to pretend to be part of the group and hold up a racist sign?  Or how about the occasional black or gay person that puts up hateful signs on their own door and calls the police about a 'hate' crime?

I'd say it's sick stuff, but it seems to be politics as usual

I'd say that's pretty sick, but maybe it's something else, or something in addition to illness?

Or the Obama campaign workers who paint swastikas on their own signs. The list is endless. Is it that they've run out of real enemies? A victim of their own success? So they've taken a page out of religion's manual: "Demons everywhere... behave or they'll get you..." etc.

Don't know a Preston Bush, but if you mean Prescott Bush, he, along with Averill Harriman, ran the Union Bank which held assets of a German steel magnate.  In 1942, the bank was accused by the US government of holding Nazi assets, but a subsequent investigation proved that accusation incorrect.  But the government seized the assets anyway.  Several journalists and The Anti-Defamation League say Bush was not a Nazi sympathizer...

Wait... so all these years we've been hearing that Pappy Bush was a Nazi sympathizer and financial backer, and that's what the people saying it were referring to?

You know, all these years hearing this, I never really looked into it - I'm no fan of the Bushes and figured whatever Prescott did or didn't do doesn't necessarily carry over to his son or grandson, and there was no evidence either of them were anti-Semitic at all.

But the whole 'The Bush Family Are Nazi's' thing is all due to a German businessman having deposits in a bank Prescott partially owned?  Do we even know if the depositor was a willing Nazi?  Or that Prescott was aware of the various individuals that did business with the bank?  Even if they were all in together, the evil of Hitler manifested itself slowly as the 1930s went along - people at the time didn't have the benefit of looking back at Hitler after the fact the way we do.  Just like the fans of Stalin and Mao at around that same time mostly didn't know the true evil of them at the time either.  From what UFOPhil said above, it seems this 'Bush collaboration' stuff was debunked.

You know, the Conservative are proud to say flat out what we believe in and what we want - a smaller, limited, less intrusive government, lower taxes and less spending.  A strong military deterrent and domestic and foreign policies that make sense and benefit Americans.

The Ds seem to think they have to lie about who they are, who the Conservatives are (a bunch of knuckle dragging racists, etc), what policies they want to implement, what policies we want to implement (poison the air and water, kill kids and old folks, etc) - it doesn't make sense.  Can't they make their case without the lies?  Prescott was a Nazi.  Snort.  I think I'm done taking anything the media or National DC Democrats have to say about themselves or about others without verifying every bit of it myself.

people at the time didn't have the benefit of looking back at Hitler after the fact the way we do.

Mein Kampf was published in 1925 and vol two 1926...amongst the enlightened little titbits within are the following:

Quote
In Mein Kampf, Hitler used the main thesis of "the Jewish peril", which speaks of an alleged Jewish conspiracy to gain world leadership.[6] The narrative describes the process by which he became increasingly antisemitic and militaristic, especially during his years in Vienna. Yet, the deeper origins of his anti-semitism remain a mystery. He speaks of not having met a Jew until he arrived in Vienna, and that at first his attitude was liberal and tolerant. When he first encountered the anti-semitic press, he says, he dismissed it as unworthy of serious consideration. Later he accepted the same anti-semitic views, which became crucial in his program of national reconstruction of Germany.
Mein Kampf has also been studied as a work on political theory. For example, Hitler announces his hatred of what he believed to be the world's twin evils: Communism and Judaism.
and
Quote
The racial laws to which Hitler referred resonate directly with his ideas in Mein Kampf. In his first edition of Mein Kampf, Hitler stated that the destruction of the weak and sick is far more humane than their protection. However, apart from his allusion to humane treatment, Hitler saw a purpose in destroying "the weak" in order to provide the proper space and purity for the strong

So either Prescott Bush was willfully ignorant of his client's intentions (to help arm Germany)  or complicit.. Or didn't financiers do their homework when depositing several million in someone's account?

It resulted in the bank's assets being seized under the Trading with the enemy act...

However in his favour...

Bush said that McCarthy has "caused dangerous divisions among the American people because of his attitude and the attitude he has encouraged among his followers: that there can be no honest differences of opinion with him. Either you must follow Senator McCarthy blindly, not daring to express any doubts or disagreements about any of his actions, or, in his eyes, you must be a Communist, a Communist sympathizer, or a fool who has been duped by the Communist line."

It might just be me, but I sense a great deal of McCarthy esque thinking in these parts... You're either in agreement or you're a democrat/ liberal/ commie/ pinko/ probably homosexual/ child killing pinko liberal.

As mentioned, people that should have known better were also enthralled with Stalin and Mao at that very same time.  Some here in the US still are.  Look at the Marxist we have right now in the White House, plowing along regardless of the failure and 10s of millions of deaths that have resulted from that philosophy over the past 90 years.

Hell, look around - right now today people are denying that Islam is a threat to the West, no matter how much evidence to the contrary there is right in front of them.  Decades from now people will be arguing about who denied this was a threat.

Do you have any information about exactly what his role at the bank was, or how much idle time he had on his hands to be involved with every transaction, customer, and aspect of the business?  Do you have an understanding of how little any one employee - even a CEO - knows about all the details and various transactions that occur at a corporation?  The CEO gets very summarized reports, employees down the line have their specific tasks.  I think people get their idea of what happens at Corp HQ from the Media and Hollywood, who have no idea either but sometimes do have an agenda.

If P Bush was aware of every transaction and depositor and borrower of a bank he invested in it would have had to be a tiny bank with just a  few customers and a handful of daily transactions.  If the German was one of the top depositors and customers, then sure, Pappy would have been aware of him.

Look, I'm not trying to defend the guy, I know very little about it - I'm just saying I'm surprised that with all the smoke and heat, this is what all that boils down to.  Really?  And from the same people that tend to defend Castro and people like Hugo Chavez now.  As in very recent history, not a bank account 80 years go

But like I said, this still has nothing to do with Bush I or Bush II, other than to smear them, and it's apparently been looked into and debunked by the ADL anyway - so I'll take their word for it.  I think the ADL have a great deal of expertise and credibility on these issues, and if they had looked into it and confirmed what you are saying, then that would be something completely different.  But you just want to insist the Bushes are Nazis, so what the hell, carry on.

The German industrialist was Fritz Thyssen.  He was a German nationalist and an opponent of the Treaty of Versailles.  As such, he was impressed with Hitler early on and made contributions to the Nazi party.  At some point he apparently joined.  He participated in Hitler's ostracizing Jews and fired his own Jewish employees, but as a Catholic, he protested when Hitler persecuted Christians and began putting the Jews in camps.  He opposed the violence of the SA, but was horrified at the violence of the Night of the Long Knives.  Kristallnacht caused him to resign from the Council of State.  He opposed the start of WWII and moved his family to Switzerland.  He was expelled from the Nazi Party and his company was nationalized.  He intended to move to Argentina, but made the mistake of visiting his ill mother in Belgium, where he was caught by the Nazis and put in a concentration camp.  His wife was also captured and joined him.

After the war, he was tried, admitted supporting the Nazis until 1938, and agreed to pay a fine for his role.

I don't see how Prescott Bush's bank holding this man's money makes Prescott Bush a Nazi, but if someone can explain that, I'd be interested in hearing it.

Odd, no mention of the tens of millions of deaths because of non marxist philosophies. Such as financing coups that overthrow democratically elected; but ideologically unsuitable to the Whitehouse, governments.. Some are ongoing, and have killed millions.. No right thinking person would support Stalin, but ignoring (because it doesn't 'fit' your rant) the opposing ideology is disingenuous at best.

In American politics, once ancestry is supposed to be irrelevant.  Today's American right ignore this reasonable guideline, esoecially if ones ancestors were black or Muslim.

The Bush family today are the privileged descendants of a long line of morally bankrupt ancestors.  From dealing with Nazis, to dealing in slaves, their family tree is a mess.

The concern is current Moslems.  And, again (sorry onan), it's the Ds - now and historically - who are always counting noses, putting people into racial categories, causing division.  And trying to say it's someone else doing it.

Is it? Right.

Phew, as long as every other religion is pure than a pure thing we only need to persecute and ultimately incinerate Muslims.

I've met some really bigoted assholes in my time; but even they spread the blame to Jews, Catholics, gays, Blacks, Browns, Bankers, Teenagers, women (especially women who are black and catholic). who else? Oh yeah..The poor, the rich, the over bright, the stupid, the middle class, the aristocracy, the royal family, union members, the Irish, the French, the Americans, the Australians...Pretty much anything..But you just  limit it to Democrats and Muslims.

Juan

If we're going to blame ancestors, remember that Obama has slave-owner ancestors.  I think that kind of pricks that balloon.

It's because I pay attention.  I know who the destructive enemies of liberty are.  It isn't that hard - they will tell you if you will listen.

What about you, are you saying there aren't any enemies of freedom?  Or is it just that I have identified the wrong groups?  Do you think there are different groups that are destructive to our freedoms, or are you saying it's all a thing of the past?

Anyway, not the D's per se - any Statist.   Any group or party that favors an ever expanding and ultimately tyrannical government.  The D Party is just the one currently providing most of the cover for it here in the US.   In fact, the rank and file D, and even most people that self identify as 'Progressive', don't want this.  There is a hard core group that has risen up to seize leadership roles at all levels of that party, and who are very good at cloaking their true intent from the casual observer.  There are plenty of Globalists around as well, often found in the leadership of the DC Republicans.  Bush I and II are examples of this.  Both parties are leading us in the wrong direction.  So no, it's not 'The Dems'.  And 'Statist' is probably a better term to describe this than 'The Left'.

Sardondi

Bush? Seriously? Prescott Bush? Are you really reduced to that?

QuoteSo, down in the carbonized core of his arhythmic heart, the leftoid knows he is a Grendel, a monster of the misty night who can’t stand the sounds of normal humanity. His twisted compulsions drive him to meddle in everything that seem not up to the standards of his fantasies, and he suspects he would do monstrous things if the moral winds ever shifted and opened up new utopian opportunity. He suspects monstrous deeds are his tomorrow because he thinks monstrous thoughts today.

Not my words, but poetically describes the leftist obsession to control thought.

Sometimes the poet says more in a stanza than an entire textbook can elucidate.

The thing stymieing the leftist pursuit of humanity's perfection is all those darn meddling people and their myriad quirks keep getting in the way.

Quote from: Sardondi on July 24, 2013, 09:13:15 AM

It fascinates me the way a person can go back decades to dig up a single item like that in a Presidents father or grandfathers life, then conclude the whole family are Nazi's - but with bombs going off all around, endless horrific stories of beheadings, 'honor' killings, stonings, continual war with neighbors, everything from threats about cartoons to demands for their own backward laws and customs when moving to someone else's country in the news on a daily basis - that very same person will completely ignore all of that, claim to be surprised at each occurrence, and accuse people that point out the obvious 'bigots'.  Good grief.

If anyone wonders how it is we end up with the politicians we get, I'd point to this type of logic from otherwise seemingly intelligent people.

Here in Calif, the nuts don't do that so much anymore.  When they aren't burning downtown, they take to the trees.  Where the authorities 'negotiate' with them and plead for them to come down.  Quite the show.  Regardless of what happens to end it, they sue and win a settlement for ill treatment.  And call it 'democracy'.

Whether they are in the trees or someone's office, I think they should be darted, netted, and carted off to prison for trespassing.

I see nothing to worry about with this...  I see no possible reason to think this will do anything but go over very well.  I mean, sure, the KKK has a media-generated history of racism, but I'm pretty sure that's all waaaaay overblown.  And even if it was true once (friggin' Democrats!), nowadays the Klan is populated with absolutely color-blind individuals.

It amazes me this stuff still goes on, but they show up in some town to cause trouble from time to time, just like this.  The Aryan Brotherhood is a big prison gang, they're around as well.  I think there must be enormous amounts of crystal meth involved.

The KKK held a rally on the steps of the Michigan Capitol building not that many years ago. We spectators were kept 150 feet away by chain-link fencing and there were police snipers on the roofs. The KKK'ers were in full hooded uniform and included a couple of children and mostly just spewed the kind of nonsense you'd expect. I kind of felt sorry for them.
