I love radio and podcasts, and have enjoyed the gabcast since it started in 2013.  I've set up a monthly $5 donation to support bellgab and the gabcast.  I figure my small contribution should go to support something that brings me enjoyment rather than the DMDN.

All kidding aside what makes you think they would listen?

Hell the gabcast pulls in 10's of people. After the dirt spatter is cleaned off the walls, some will come back to listen.

We listen to them or not? :)

Anyways, if a ship is sinking, you will reach for any submersible devise. They read here.  It could be something as informal as setting-up a suggestions thread for fixing things.   You have people here with radio experience, public relations experience, business experience and just common sense.  Yes, we can be other than trolls.  I don't think that wise business decisions and public relations decisions are being made.  When they are not we explode and attack, offering the fix through suggestions might be an alternate vent and work better for those who choose to do it.

No I meant listen to us being a consulting firm for Art. Oh the site will be here long after this is all done for sure.

Sorry for the confusion.

I see dateline, you're saying they are desperate and have no choice now. LOL. I am kidding.

Who can say? I doubt it. It appears Art makes choices differently than what would be expected by many here. I say keep heather at the helm. Do not let her read any criticisms. Rather let her learn her rhythm, become comfortable controlling a conversation. I am certain something interesting would show. Maybe belgab isn't the audience.

I agree with a lot of that. We are but a tiny, tiny speck on the internet. The fact that anyone lets this place dictate their life in anyway is on them. Nothing wrong with not reading here or posting if you are doing a show and nothing good can come out of it. I really don't think it would have mattered who took over.

Bellgab can be used as a tool to grow your audience, or in this case, avoided like the plague if nothing of value can come of it.

Getting back to serious, maybe some could form Bellgab Consultants.  We could analyze the situation, improving MITD and the network and improve listener reach and advertising potential, for example and from that analysis prepare a list of recommendations based on the input of those who choose to do so.  We would submit the recommendations to them and they could adopt those they wanted to and others maybe not. It could be informal or formal. No butt hurt allowed.  If they don't listen, well they don't, but if they do, I think it would improve things significantly.

Just Me

Back in the 80s a radio station came on the scene playing oldies. I liked it and listened. One day driving home from town the rado station goes silent for about 5 minutes and suddenly there's sounds like bumping a mic, rustling noises like equipment being moved then, a voice in the mic.

Thump, thump thump, and the voice goes, god damn piece a shit, ah, ah, you fucking piece a shit, thump, thump, thump as the voice continues to thump on the equipment with more profanity live over the air. The music finally comes back on and I was laughing my ass of.

Several minutes later the station manager calls in to the station on his cellphone to make an on air apologize to the listening audience for the profanity. They played that apology many more times that day. I wonder if the radio engineer kept his job.

What has this got to do with ArtBell, everything.

If she was any good, why would they be looking for a replacement? She is out of her depth, and people like you have a misguided sense of...well, I don't think you even know what loyalty means. I don't think you can apply that in this situation, You either listen or you don't, loyalty doesn't come into it. Likewise, if an employer doesn't think you are up to the job, they don't keep you on as a favour. As you can see, they were trying to help her, because she is not handling the pressure well. Why is that appalling?

It takes two qualities to create a successful new career:  a true passion for the field with the intelligence to learn it, and a freakishly uncommon unwavering level of commitment.  Heather has demonstrated these qualities, and Keith and Art are damn lucky to have her.  If she hadn't stepped in at a moment's notice the show would've gone up in smoke the day Art departed from the show.

Whenever I have the opportunity to hire new talent, I scour the earth for people like Heather, because I can shape that metal into a Samurai sword.  I always hire raw, bright, fiercely committed people because I know what they'll be capable of anything once they learn the secrets.  And it never fails; everyone I've trained is at the top of their field today, and a major asset who I can call upon when I need their help - and they come through, because that's who they are - talented, well-trained, loyal mfers.

She's growing every week despite the worst kind of adversities.  Yes it's a long-term commitment to grow a new talent into something spectacular, but it's worth it.  And it's much easier to shape a raw talent than it is to take a developed talent and try to re-shape it into a better one.  All she needs to come through the process and bring home a win for everyone involved is the same level of commitment that she's already demonstrated to her employers, and a steady, patient, talented mentor.

And frankly I'm enjoying seeing this happen; I've never heard the growth process of a radio show host before and it's fascinating and fun.  I'm more engaged now than I was before Art stepped aside.  I want to see her succeed and I know she can.  She deserves the opportunity to do that.

If she wants to step aside, then that's a different story, and I wouldn't blame her.  But if she gets forced out, then I'm done with DMDN.

LoLo

Would someone be so kind as to tell me when last night's GabCast will show up in the archives? I only see the one for January 1st.

The Welsh love to fuck with the English. If you walk into a pub, they will all be talking English but immediately switch to Welsh as soon as they see that you are from across the border. And don't get me started on their fucking place names. This is totally genuine:

St. Mary's (Church) by the white aspen over the Whirlpool and St. Tysillio's (Church) by the red cave.

Thanks PBS and PG. I don't know if I was hallucinating last night but I thought I heard the show start but I had to go to bed.  :-[

Back in the mid 90s I did overnights at a shitty contemporary pop station basically pushing CD carts  from a playlist printed on a dotmatrix printer.  At the top of the hour I was supposed to give the callsign and say something about the weather. They told me to "make it up" because we didn't have Internet or anything like that.

When I think about all those people who worked at the radio station I sincerely hope none of them are still there. What a pit of depression.

To pass the time I used to just get riproaring drunk. Sometimes I would blow through the hour and forget to do my job. But who the fuck listens at three in the morning?  One night I got really hammered and I played "and we danced" by the Hooters for like two hours solid on repeat. About an hour into it someone from the fire station called me and asked me if there was a problem. I told him no I'm just drunk and I don't give a shit. He laughed and  we called it a night.so I guess somebody was listening at three in the morning.

You called at 11:30 ranting and raving because you found out they were looking for 'options'. Of course I wasn't gonna host anything with 30 minutes notice and you goading me.

You're a dim bulb. I'm talking about a separate stream for my own use.

Go fuck yourself, Amateur Hour.

ok, I found a reason why I read the previous 23 pages. Now 21 more to go. Was just about to tap out and this post just woke me back up. Onward I read!

So I shouldn't proceed with Art and Ed Dames scissoring on top a confused and drunken Whitley as Queen Victoria and her grey alien courtiers look upon the repellant scene with disgust and confused arousal?

I think Art had the hots for Heather.
