Are you retiring or just quitting?

Imagine Dave retiring?

Daddy's back from the store?

... In time all could be forgotten...and forgiven.

Not when he starts back up with his occasional Thursday or Friday announcements of 'big news next week' - meant to keep everyone on edge, and the his bi-weekly comment on some new reason he might quit again.

Pretty sure the current mess won't be forgotten, and any hint of more of the same and he'll be right at the center of another shit storm.

Even if Dave moved on, PremRat would just replace him with Connie Willis or worse.  C2C is hopeless with the current regime of infomercial managers.

Kick back. Enjoy a favorite beverage.

Why does all this bother you so much?

Art must have tired of viewing music videos on his thread.

Danger!UFO = Dr Phil.

Dateline

Hold the spot open?????  Hold the spot open????  AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I feel like I am a mouse on one of those gerbil wheels, running in place round and round, faster and faster, as far as Art and MITD goes, but never going anywhere or getting off.

Next, Art will be back and wanting the vaguely loveable to support him.

Hey, I made it to the 'Acceptance' stage!  ;)

I went through the first four stages, too.  ::)

Unfortunately I'm still not there yet. I'm still reeling from that C Crane radio purchase.

So you're the reason we had to suffer through those awful ads.

I am leaving now.

I hope you'll stick around DangerUFO - you're the only one talking sense right now.

The rest of you seem to have your facts all screwed up.

Art was run off the air by some freak - you can bitch about his decision if you want, but literally -all- of the available facts confirm that this is what happened.

It was a hasty and emotional decision when he said he was quitting for good, and he immediately regretted saying it, and he apologized for it.  He said that he still enjoys doing the show and wants to come back once this stalker issue is handled.  Heather's buying him time to work it out.

So I think that everyone should just get over the butthurt, because you are not the victim here.  Art and his family are the victims.  And he's a resilient guy; if he can do the show safely again, and the network survives until that happens, he'll be back.

I'm sure that many will be eager to attack me for sharing my perspective, accusing me of white knighting, or being a sycophant, or having Stockholm syndrome (haha) or whatever.  But it is what it is; shit happens.  I'll be happy to tune in if he comes back, and if not I'll just keeping enjoying the archives.

Regarding the guest quality this time around, I tend to think that it took a lot of momentum and years of hard work to turn Coast to Coast into the international juggernaut that it became by the time he left the show - and that huge success drew in lots of great guests and established several intriguing lines of inquiry to build upon.  And the millions of listeners he had were like a web of talent scouts funneling in great, fresh suggestions.  Those two factors working in tandem got us everyone from Gordon Cooper to Robert Monroe to Brian Greene and lots of other very reputable, accomplished, brilliant minds.

If he can make it back, and doesn't get hunted down by an armed gunman at his home again, then maybe we'll see the show reach that magical sweet spot again someday.  Or, maybe we'll just get to enjoy Art's unrivaled interviewing skills at work again.  I don't see the downside to either possibility.

But I see a real downside in locking the door shut on him right now.  I'm not willing to do that.  Because I'm not willing to help the asshole(s) who ran him off the air, keep him off the air.  Maybe I'm just sick of seeing the bad guys win.  Or maybe I'm just not the type to kick a man when he's down.

Either way, he'll always have my support, because I like his work and I agree with his anti-corporate maverick style.  I wish more people had the stones to raise a finger to corporate America and do what they want to do on their own terms.

Work what out?  If there was a stalker (which there wasn't), has he been caught or will he ever be caught?  No.  What is there to 'work out'?

I see:  you're Ingo Swann and you have special powers to see through the facts about Art Bell's situation and enlighten the rest of us with your supernatural insight.

There is/was a stalker.  Every fact we have confirms it.  And he may yet be caught.  Or perhaps the Bells will move to a safer location (pretty anywhere not in America would do the trick).  Or maybe he'll get sick of being bullied and hire a guard to watch the house while he's on the air.  I dunno, but the one constant in the universe is change, and if the winds change direction before the network collapses...and if his fans are still with him when that happens...then he'll come back again, as he's done several times before.
