our local affiliate is soooo out of the loop when it comes to the programming on their own station.  they're still playing a liner, read by art bell, in which he urges listeners to tune on weekends to hear him.  what the fuck.  this could be perhaps the most poorly run talk station i've ever heard.

I've heard 1490 WMRN play radio ads like that too in the past.  So unless you just happen to live in my area, that station isn't the only one that doesn't update things from time to time...

Coast to Coast is now about demographics, trying to appeal to everyone, focusing on ad revenue, etc etc. I bet there are weekly or monthly meetings where they stare at ratings, revenue, in-house overview of the show, etc. They then plan which guests should appeal to the broadest audience, most accessible topics, and see how george can slip an on-air ad in, etc etc etc. Sadly, I could stomach all of this is George wasn't so bad.



Art built a show and let the listeners come on their own and everything else took care of itself.  It is supposed to be a radio show, not a brand. It is a giant infomercial now.

I think that there is a solid audience for the sort of material Art aired so well:  paranormal events, semi-grounded conspiracy theory, and the like.  However, I wish that anyone exploring such material on the radio would bring at least some degree of critical analysis to the material being discussed.  I feel a bit like Fox Mulder sometimes.  There is a poster saying, "I want to believe" in Mulder's office, and like him, I, too, want to believe that we are not alone in the universe, but I don't want to be a sap about it and believe every charalatan trying to sell a new book/theory/remedy/doctrine.
