Can Noory pronounce anything correctly?

Noory coming out strongly AGAINST priests having sex with children!  That's a very brave stance for him to take on this issue.
He may be against it right now... but wait for a pedophile priest to be the guest and he will "absolutely" agree with everything the guest says... He would not want to be too challenging or offensive...

The second guest astronomer Chris Impey is good.  He's managing to keep this interesting despite George's random Q&A roulette:

Is there life on Mars?
What about parallel universes?
What's your favorite space mission?

It's giving me topic whiplash.

Tommy's fiancé is pet-sitting Jorch's dog in the C2C studio in Hawaii.

This is a wonderful synopsis of Jorch's character in general, and it made me laugh.  Bravo, Midnight!  ;D

Uh, this is a weird opening to his news segment.  A modern day Walter Winchell?

I didn't listen in last night  but thought I'd like to comment.

Arthur Godfrey perhaps?  Nice guy persona on air, but a fake off air.

Walter Winchell,   Noory's  hero and model of journalism?    Yeah, O.K. George.

BTW, Clyde Lewis was hospitalized several days ago but is on the air now.... I'm so glad I have other listening options on week-nights.  The best time to listen to C2C is on the weekends, especially Art Bell's SIT, even though he's being ripped-off by not getting any payment for his rebroadcasts.

No offense, but I would imagine that Art already got paid for those.  If I buy something off of someone and then use it, I should't be expected to pay them for using something I already paid for.

I couldn't believe I heard it but he sure did compare himself to Walter Winchell.  Which goes to show you George either doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground or his ego has finally gone out of control.  Both, most likely.

Winchell was basically a gossip columnist, who became a notorious red-baiter, supporting Joe McCarthy after WWII.  He was well known for his revelations of the sexual dalliances of the rich and famous of his day as well.   Some in this forum might remember he was the narrator of the 60s tv program "The Untouchables."   He died in 1972 --  a very lonely guy -- evidently only one person attended his funeral.

Winchell in his time really was famous though -- and although alot of what he wrote about was libelous and scatalogical -- he certainly did his own work and it made his reputation as a tattle-tale.  Dyslexic George isn't about to do any actual writing, though, hence the "ghost" writers who write his "books" for him.  Not to mention his overt prudishness with regard to "bad" language -- although he sure likes gruesome news stories about children being run over by steamrollers, run through by a playmate with a pitchfork or being sexually abused.  He thinks this is "news," along with his pitches for carnivora.

I'm sure George dreams of being "influential."  No such luck, DUMB ASS!

The Arthur Godfrey comparison seems to me to be spot on.   Check out the late 50s film "A Face in the Crowd," starring Andy Griffith -- it was when Godfrey was at the height of his popularity and a pretty obvious spoof on him..

George kind of reminds me of some guy who on the surface stupidly keeps blundering into success -- but like the Griffith/Godfrey character -- it's clear that he's also a calculating egomaniac, who's engineered his way into his current position.   I think he's used the "nice guy" schtick to it's full extent and it wouldn't surprise me if someday he gets burned...

Just watch "A Face in the Crowd" for the awesomeness of the acting (especially to younger folks who only know Andy as the great role of Sheriff, may favorite show ever, or as Matlock) and the importance of the story. But really it could apply to many of the "news personalities" especially of today. Coke fiends, sexual deviants, sexual harassers, narcissists, drunks, etc. Frankly, I don't think George is that deep. Sure a self-inflated sense of his own import but I don't think clever or devious enough to be pulling off fakery and calculated manipulation like "Lonesome Rhodes" or the real guys.

Even though I hold to a lot of the same views as the first guest tonight,  I think this is the wrong show for D'Souza.  He is way too polarizing a character for Coast.  George says he tries hard not to be political but less than a week later he's putting on D'Souza. WTF! I haven't listened to Coast hardly at all this week because the guests/topics are not what I want to hear when I turn Coast on.  I will listen to a bit of the show tonight but probably not for long and I doubt I will be commenting on it.

Schraeder has had Joshua Pee Warren on tonight talking about the wishing lam....er machine and how it grants his wishes. I wish he would wish Noory off the air and bring Bell back on. I really can't take Warren too much.  He's always got some wild scheme that ultimately fails.

Winchell was wildly famous in his day.  He used to hang out at the 21 club with Frank Sinatra and all the biggest entertainers of the day.  By the end of his career, no newspaper would carry his column.  He was reduced to standing on street corners handing out mimeographed copies of his column, for free, to anyone who would take one.  His daughter was the only one to attend his funeral.  Another weird but interesting fact about Winchell, he would drink a lot of coffee before doing his radio program so his bladder would be full.  He did this to give his voice that extra sound of "urgency" during the broadcast.  Weird but true.

That is an interesting story. I recall learning in camp as a kid that Indians would do similar technique to be able to wake up early by drinking water. Believe it or not, it does work but one has to adjust the volume based on time (and I imagine a number of little scouts wet their beds.) Wonder if "tricks" like a tack in your shoe would really work on a lie-detector??

Dumb Ass's guest tonight is Dinesh D'Souza.  D'Souza might be headed to prison for 10 to 16 months for making illegal campaign contributions.  He's going to be sentenced September 23rd.  D'Souza divorced his wife.  Maybe D'Souza will become the wife of some 300-lb inmate?

I don't know the full story, but I can't be the only one who thinks it odd that a guy who comes out with an anti-Obama movie, later gets nailed for something like a campaign contribution misdeed, which I'm thinking is somewhat common and fairly unprosecuted.  It's almost like he got singled out?

Unfortunately I think that D'Souza was just being foolish. There's no other way to spin this one

And I suppose all the Bush-bashers and other left-wing types he has on aren't polarizing?

Of course, I agree, and he admits that too.  But the question I'm raising, which he just raised as well, is the idea of selective prosecution.  I think it's odd that I rarely hear of people getting nailed for minor campaign contribution shenanigans like this, but somehow this very prominent anti-Obama voice got caught.

I would agree.  If the situation was reversed, the left would be all over this calling it a witchhunt.  Since its an "evil" Republican though, lets throw away the key.  At least D'Souza owns up to his mistakes.   Obama will never acknowledge that he has made any mistakes during his presidency.  Just telling it like it is.   One is taking responsibility for his actions, the other is not even though the buck is supposed to stop at his desk.

Of course they are.  I think we hold the same beliefs.  I also think we have a right to say what we want about those guests as well.  I just wish Coast was less political than it has become.

He did.  You would think from the discussion of religion on the show, he would know its not true.   Of course he probably wasn't listening to his guest.   Noory is completely lost in more ways than one.

zeebo

They seem to be equating belief in life after death with belief in God, I don't see why that has to be true.

Also, my understanding is there are two different kinds of athiesm:  Soft athiesm - having no belief in God.  Hard athiesm - having belief that there is no God.  Dinesh was arguing against the hard athiests, but I didn't hear any argument against the softies.
