I think it's funny that we have a host now that is appearing more often on the weekends with the real name of Dave.

Hahaha, "Good Dave" and "Really Sucky Dave."  Meanwhile, it grows ever closer to Art's promised return.  Please don't let us down, Art.

That makes sense- cheapest common denominator. I can't even consider it a show anymore. Just noise, filler, cheesy infomercials like the ones on TV. Too bad. Goergie has gotten noticeably  worse - so this site must be working a nerve. So, essentially, the corporate people don't care to produce anything of quality. I had hoped that they were trying to knock C2C off to make way for something better- but those days are gone for sure. I'm planning on getting rid of our cable because there's nothing much on for the high price we pay and radio doesn't have much to offer. Well, there are still good books. Georgie- I'm sorry, but you're really awful!
I dumped Direct several months and don't miss it at all.  I've discovered several local OTA stations that fit my bill.  They show old TV shows and movies from back when there was at least some quality entertainment and not just bottom-feeding trash.

Please forgive me for being out of the loop- who is this Dave you mention? Is he one of the weekend hosts? I don't listen to coast very often or I shut it off in frustration when I try. I notice that there are 2 David Noories on the members list both opened on the same day. At the risk of being Captain Obvious- are they GN's accounts? Does he interact with you here? GNS

Dave Schrader is actually named Dave.

Somehow... some people started calling Noory "Dave".  Tha's why in one of Gnorry's first posts he said

Because I AM Dave Noorie

Just noticed he logged in late April-ish... didn't have anything to post though.  Noory (or whoever is handling that account for him) hasn't done that since Christmas Eve.

I know for at least the last two years he talked about the new studio being ready in June.

In the year 2525, if man is still alive....     ;)

If you get one of those digital converter boxes you can get a lot of decent tv over the airwaves. I noticed I got MeTV and RetroTV which show old (good) programs and movies.

Or if you have a newer digital/HD TV that has the built-in digital tuner you can just hook up a small antenna to it and get them OTA free too.
I also have a WinTV card in my PC that can pick them up and even record them like a DVR from an antenna.

MeTV, Retro TV, this TV, Movies!, ATV, getTV, and COZI TV are among my favorites.  All I had to do was spend around $10 for an antenna and plug it into my HD digital TV.  A one-time $10 and I'm getting shows with quality acting, directing, and production, with no Kardashian-Miley crapology, unless a I stray onto the Always Broadcasting Crap, Nothing But Crap, or Completely Broadcasting Shit local stations. "My Mother the Car" looks like an academy award production compared to most of the mindless trash of today.  Bah, humbug. ;)

In short, Noory earned the nickname "Dave" back when Bell had Dark Matter.  Somebody here wrote to a program director asking if they would be airing DM.  The director wrote back that they already have a late night program called Coast hosted by "Dave."  The fact was that a program director found Noory so memorable that he could not even be bothered to remember a name.  Some of us decided that Dave was a fitting name.  Possibly because Dave cannot be bothered to pronounce names properly, possibly because he is not memorable, possibly because Dave has few letters than Goeroge (taking a cue from the laziest host around I decided to take the shortcut and type fewer letters when making reference to the schmuck.)

At least that is how I recall it... Somebody may correct me on some of the points.

If you go here, you can get a good laugh with some of the details, and it has a copy of Lonevoice's orginal post, on the Art Bell thread, thanks to Onan:

The local station exec was calling Jorch "Dave Noorie."  Jorch is such a "celebrity" the local radio guy not only didn't know his first name, he screwed-up Jorchie's last name, too  :))  Noory is pissed folks call him "Jorch," so I'm sure he's thrilled to be known as "Dave Noorie."

pyewacket

Thank you all so much for the laughs!!! Geez- what a sad fate for a once interesting show. Jorch seems happy to be King of the Stupids. If he wasn't, he have either put more effort into the show or he would have left before it got this bad. It's a matter of personal pride. I don't think there's any saving coast now.

I like Me TV, too. Lots of old shows to enjoy.  :)

Could it be that someone wants to popularize the name of Dave to apply to the name of  George Noory  in order to deflect  a search engine's  queries into  George Noory 's actual name.

Wonder what the "Numbers Lady" would attribute the name Dave to in relation to Noory?

I know at least one poster was concerned if everybody started calling Jorch "Dave," it would threaten "George Noory Sucks" from appearing at the top of a Google search. :)

Me?  I have full faith Jorch's infinite suckage power will overcome any such concerns.  To paraphrase, "A Jorch by any other name is still a Jorch."

D-Day.

I didn't listen to Noory on 6-6-2014.  Did he make patriotic comments about the service of those who gave their lives on that date?  Did he mention his nine years of service in the US Navy?

George Noory 's draft number was called up during the Vietnam War.  Noory's birthday was 06-04-1950.  What was his reason for not stepping up and answering the call of his country at that time??......   What was his reason for leaving the Naval Reserves just before deploying overseas??..

If true,  Noory was an officer in the US Navy Reserve.  He often claims to be a fool lieutenant and on an occasion said he wished he stayed in so he might've stepped up a rank and so be called  "Commander".  Wow!!

Yes,  naval  Noory is truly fool of ship.

All the while bell's fan scour the dirges of the internet to find his old shows. Pathetic george.

Steve Warner's "Dark Weekend" on Sunday evenings is an oasis of relief. Looking forward to when they have more shows.

Ugh, Noory just on the air threatened again saying he will be hosting the show for a "LONG, LONG, LONG" time to come... :P

Life is not that long. I think he means he is long, long, long winded.

When he talks his mustache is what catches all the breezes and each hair waves like giant flag pole of which the colonization of microorganisms that live there salute. The only thing they fear is a collision with a giant scalding pizza roll. (which could wipe them out)

I 100% agree. I enjoy the retro stuff . The comedies were funny without being crass, over cynical or damn near perverted and as you said those were the days of great directing and producing. With the internet the glory days of DirectTv and cable are over unless they drastically (40-50%) cut their rates and go to some a la carte system. GNS

Last night our local station replayed Noory`s interview with Michael Cremo on Somehere in Suckage ane I kept thinking how much better it would have been with a competant interviewer that would have at least asked follow-up questions. Drowsy George just let him talk until he ran out of breath.GNS

I can`t sleep with a tv on so I usually drift off to sleep with the radio on during the week. If I fall asleep with the sports station on I dream of being in a filled stadium during a big game. If I have music on I usually dream of being at a sold-out concert. And if I fall asleep with Noory on I dream that Satan himself is cleaning out my ears with a screwdriver. Go back to Hell George!

Hahaha.  I'm usually lights out before Jorch begins polluting the airwaves.  If not, just hearing Jorch mumbling something about being near the Pacific puts me out.

Same here, across the board.  I enjoy some shows which I never really watched or cared for when I was younger.  Even a show such as "F Troop," really had some talented actors such as Larry Storch, Ken Berry, and Forrest Tucker who were masters of comedy and pratfalls and, as you mentioned, could be hilarious without being foul-mouthed or perverted.  When I realized I was paying nearly $100 a month for a load of crap I didn't even watch, it was time to pull the plug.  I just hope the Feds or the corporate suits don't screw-up the OTA broadcasts such as Me-TV for awhile.  Give them time, though, and I'm sure they'll find a way.  We'll eventually end-up with some Nooron equivalents.   :P

Speaking of Me TV, guess what "The Twilight Zone" episode is on Me tonight.  Yes, yes, one of Jorch's favorites, and it doesn't even have his  fellow grape Nehi drinking buddy, Bill Mumy.  Of course, it's "To Serve Man."  I think Jorch likes it because it reminds him of his own committment of "To Bore Man."  Just remember, "there are no coishendences."  Right, Jorch.

Is Nooby still building his studio in Hawaii?  I'm wondering if the hang-up is if he's trying to negotiate electricity included into his lease.   With all his big talk about the studio, please don't tell me it's just a suite in a shopping mall.

Tommy's fiancé is pet-sitting Jorch's dog in the C2C studio in Hawaii.
