On another thread aldous mentioned we should all try to get together sometime. Early internet I was on Prodigy and we had a great chat room group. We organized a weekend and all met up in Las Vegas. It was so much fun and well worth the effort to get together. Las Vegas was a good spot because we were from all over the country but the numerous flights to Sin City at fairly reasonable cost made if feasible. Heck, maybe Knappy would meet up with us.

Well see, I have fabulous friends, still, from the early days of the interweb that I first met on an ethnobotany bbs, then in person at annual NYC informal gatherings.  Electronic threads can sometimes be woven into real world rugs.  Anyhoo, as the fates have it, personal business has forced me to stay and pass through Carson Co. (Vegas) lately, and the week of Dark Matter's premiere.  I however, have always, when needing to stay in that area, preferred spending my time in Nye Co., the spacious skies, the starry nights, the nearby hot springs.  Fade to Crystal Gayle.

I was wondering if anyone had ever gotten my screen name.  "Roy Hinkley" is the character name of the Professor on Gilligan's Island - Professor Roy Hinkley -  B.S., M.A., Ph.D - better known as Russell Johnson.  I didn't put up "The Professor" right away because I wanted to see if anyone got it.

And don't worry, this Roy isn't as old -

Yep - and how about this - the Skipper's name was Jonas Grumby.  A good old seaman's name, but I thought Roy Hinkley sounded better than Jonas Grumby.

Gotta love Dawn.  Just so we can tie this into C2C, in 1959 Wells was crowned Miss Nevada and represented her state in the 1960 Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  There, we tied it to Art and George Knapp's stomping grounds.

George would have made an excellent Gilligan's island character. The zany radio host that gets marooned on the other side of the island with his floating studio. The Professor picks him up on his radio and George thinks it's funny to keep reading news reports of the imminent rescue of the castaways as an April fool's joke, but it all goes wrong when Thurston Howell and Lovey set a trap made up of a hole with palm leaves disguising it. George falls in while out looking for coconuts and is forced by the castaways to use his radio to call for help which is responded to by a cameo appearance of Adam West and Burt Ward. George gets on the boat first, but a storm blows up and the castaways remain stranded on the island while George yells "So long suckers!" as he disappears off into the distance.

That is good! Because while the is George Noory sucks thread; really I feel like the sucker for listening to him all of these years & not sharing my WTFs with others besides my husband.  Oh, I did once and that person thought George was really nice.  Now, she thinks he is an asshole.  And, she actually bought Major Ed Dames' self-teaching instructions to remote viewing. This was basically cards with pictures on them.
