Many died with covid-19 not from it.
Mortality rate could be inflated by as much as 88%
The average age of patient mortality is 78

Thanks for asking buddy.

Haha. Norry also has his version of it. But it is more muddled and confused when he explains his idea that time is accelerating. Especially as the dreaded "FEB" month approaches.

So our city government is buying/leasing-to-buy (not sure on details yet) the Crowne Plaza to host homeless with Corona-Chan or potentially with Corona-Chan. At the same time refuses to identify places/people who have been Corona-Chan confirmed because instead "we should treat every place and person as potentially infected."

"Given various combinations of an individual patient’s physiology and environmental conditions, such as humidity and temperature, the gas cloud and its payload of pathogen-bearing droplets of all sizes can travel 23 to 27 feet (7-8 m)"
Next up from the MSM, "how to socially isolate in your underground bunker. "

Interesting.  That's the Feds too.   Maybe some of those 300,000 missing masks the President was talking about have been found?

Risking sounding snide/sarcastic to those who are reacting to beliefs and emotions. Over a situation with limited information of a rapidly unfolding global event. Where hours can make a difference. Which the world might be faking, to make some politicians look bad. By daring to put those politicians on TV, during a public address, here goes.

Considering this virus strain is a little over 100 days old, and you're asking for a years worth of complete data to be useful... Exactly how would this imaginary complete 100 day data set help hospitals, who are being crippled by the influx of sick dying people today? No matter which side of the decimal point the mortality rate ultimately falls, a year from now. Unless this is all fake news...

Without a years worth of data. We've seen how this virus burns through other populations, who are around two weeks ahead of us on the contagion curve. At the moment isolation it's the ONLY tool we have to slow down infection rates, so hospitals can keep mortality rates low overall, not only for people with Covid-19.

Lacking immunity, treatment, inoculation, or a cure. Isolation is the only real tool we have, and is the most successful strategy to slow or stop contagion. This has been true for thousands of years. Despite any statistics compiled after the fact. New unknown highly contagious virus that swamps hospitals bad for all.

Luckily we live in a time when we are able to get a lot of information in the first 100+ days into this outbreak. Had this virus outbreak been 40 years ago, we'd probably still be thinking it is a new highly contagious treatment resistant strain of flu at 100+ days into this shit show.

Sometimes there are no good answers. Any move you make you lose hard. The only way you could know the best outcome for any action for a fact, would be if you had a machine that travels through time, and alternate dimensions to see all possible outcomes. Then choose the least brutal fucking. But if you had such a machine you could make a far more safe perfect world for all.

About the other point of when, where, to quarantine using early data sets. If anyone here truly desires to become an amateur actuary & epidemiologist. Might I suggest you start by understanding the exponential function. To imperfectly model answers for yourselves.

The USA already has the best actuaries & epidemiologist capitalism can buy. All of them crunching numbers for many decades. Over scenarios just like what is unfolding today. All of whom are sorting out the risk management of harm to the populace verses economic damage, et. al.

# The greatest shortcoming of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function. - Albert Bartlett

Nice. A graph of the compound interest on the new trillions that the feds will be blowing out the door to the big companies? Is there one showing the inverse so that I can see the general expected financial condition of the majority of individuals when this is over?

I'm not claiming that they are doing a bang-up job. Hell, they can't make a pack of playing cards that does not disintegrate when you shuffle them. I'm simply saying that they are doing what we cannot...

"China is betting big on masks!  so much that the state has ordered all "regular factories" to produce, that means Car factories, electronics factories, anywhere that can."

Maybe we should get our regular factories to start churning out PPE and masks? The textile mills that were shuttered in the 70's, the auto parts factories that were moved offshore in the 80's, the heavy industry that left in the 90's and the steel producers who were gone by the early part of this century should all be able to manage this manufacturing for a national emergency domestically...

Oh. Right. It all went to China.

Looking at the comments on the side as well as the video end that says "comenta y comparte" makes me think it is Italian or Spanish... But I'm sure NYC will look like this soon enough. They have historically been a place where disease got a good foothold...

Joe just came back from the not too distant future.

It sounds at the beginning that Joe was wanting to quote Ben F. "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." That used to be my sig line on a different forum. I'm a little torn on this one. To just allow everything to function with no restrictions seems like a really bad idea (hello, NYC.) But to lock everything down like Italy for months on end seems like a sure way to kill the economy completely. When  people are desperate is when they are most prone to, and accepting of extreme ideologies (communism, Nazism, fascism.)

I'm honestly as worried for the future (5 years from now) as I am of getting sick. I can almost see this as the end of a great experiment before society allows itself to be transformed. The difference is that in the early 1900's the technology was not there to track your citizens. There was still a chance to break free of bad systems. It will be harder now (ask the Chinese who are tracked every minute of every day.)

I’m no statistician or epidemiologist but even a fucking hippie can figure this shit out. If you base the level of freedom a people are allowed to have on incomplete or inconclusive statistics then you are likely to justify perfect enslavement in service of imperfect data.

Included in most corona reports shoveled into our feed trough you have get two maybe three data points.

Existing cases
Number of deaths
And possibly, number of recoveries.

Here is what needs to be reported in order to adjust quarantine restrictions appropriately and effectively.

Number of confirmed positive cases in past 3 weeks.
Number of confirmed positive cases total
Number of confirmed dead daily.
Number of confirmed dead total.
And most importantly-
Number of tests given AND number of residents total.

This data needs to be pooled on a county by county basis to form regional and national emergency levels and containment policies. Ultimately the missing factor would be the number of residents in each county that test positive for CV antibodies but these tests are still in development and from what I understand not yet readily available.

I know that catsmile does not like your idea. I think he will hate mine... The death rate in Canada was 8.8 per 1000 for all causes. I want to put covid into perspective. I want to know how many people died today due to covid, and how many bodies there are from all causes.

I know that the rate will keep climbing from COVID if we do not do something. But I want to see what percentage of people are kicking off form covid vs. car accidents, strokes and even just the seasonal flu.

The hardest hit country so far, Italy has 12,000 deaths from COVID out of a population of 60,000,000. (And my guess is that 20 percent of those would have been dead this year anyhow as they were already in poor health- but I'm not going to even figure that into my equation...)

This is why I'm not understanding why Italy cannot figure out what to do with all of the bodies. Their death rate was 10.5 per 1000 before this. Population- 60,000,000.

60,000,000 / 1000 * 10.5 = 630,000 bodies they would have had to deal with this year. Divide that by 12 and you get 53,000 bodies average per month. Yes, they have had 12,000 deaths so far from COVID. But how can an industry that would have to deal with 53,000 bodes suddenly be that overwhelmed by less than a 25 % increase? Certainly they were not running their funeral homes at capacity before? And now that actual funeral services are not held, family visitations are gone, grave side services and make-up and hair services for the dead are a thing of the past they could ramp it up. In the funeral industry probably 80% of your time is spent dealing with the living and not the dead...

How is it that the funeral industry suddenly is so overwhelmed that people are left to rot in hallways? Either this is far deader than they are telling us, or they are manufacturing a headline. (Or they have legislated funeral homes to close as "non-essential" and the bodies are literally piling up by the tens of thousands from all causes...)

Exactly, number of tests given.  The baseline never was zero!  The baseline starting point is unknown, because tests were not used.  COVID NEVER HAD A ZERO STARTING POINT!!!!!

Exactly.  I read an article with a quote from a major physician in Italy who said they count Covid-19 deaths differently there.  Like, here, if a patient was admitted with Corona but died of a peanut allergy, we would classify the death as peanut allergy.  Not over there.

I’m just thankful to have a flipping job at this point.

Like I get the virus is serious for those who are at risk, but if you are not at risk it is an acceptable danger level to accept to have ordinary life. The fact is Coronavirus has been here all friggin winter that’s is why there was in increase in flu deaths this year, they weren’t testing for it. A lot of people have/had the virus and simply don’t have symptoms or recover without being diagnosed. The fatality level is grossly over inflated for young healthy people.

Rest assured the government will not let a good crisis go to waste their will be some sort of power grab and the money they are passing out is built to make you OK with it.

Also I’d like to point out it is in the media best interest to stoke the fear. Having people locked up in their homes as a captive audience is good for $$$. Also, if the reporters were losing their jobs and being asked to take pay cuts their tune of LOCK DOWN the country until next year would change, I promise you that.
It doesnt matter who is at risk to die, it's the healthy unaffected people that are going provide opportunity to kill others. anyone and everyone can be a carrier.  Attitudes like yours will kill many people.

I do agree with you that the gov. never lets a good tragedy go to waste.
