Aside from some of the nice areas in the mountains, Indian ruins, and desert where nobody was living is great. But I thought NM was, often, a shit-hole. Roswell is a bust. Driving all along what could be a beautiful desert you get mobile homes and trashed out yards. One must always be aware because there are so much drunk drivers (yet you could buy single serving bottles of booze for a $1 at the gas station.) And signs to watch out for illegals. Santa Fe is over-priced scam (and you have to drive out of the downtown to buy beer.) Admittedly when it snows it is nice with all the candles and fires etc at Christmas time. And I smelled the worst bathroom in my life in Albuquerque when I just had to take a piss and a drunken, homeless Indian had just used it. I threw up into my mouth. It was nasty.

There are a lot of things I really like about NM but, like so many other great places in the US today, it has its problems. Not sure if it's still true but I remember reading that it was #1 in unemployment. I know they've been hit really bad with all of the desolation going on in our country these days.

As far as the worst bathrooms, apparently, you've never been to CBGBs. 'Thee worst' ever.

Yeah I've gotta get my prism checked. I might be dropping packets on the signal or the thing's blinker fluid may be low but every time I ache my eyes and ears with the DNC proceedings I am enveloped by the queasy feeling that I'm being sold last week's left over fish tacos. Something tells me that I'm better off with the ok to mediocre wine and steaks. But I mean, I could be sitting here all jaded by my long history of running with the social justice set. Personally I think the wrong people were put in charge of properly putting away the leftovers of honest grievance into the refigerator of justice so that the equality pie you want a slice of now smells funny and has not good looking stuff starting to grow on it. Damn I'm hungry!

Ha. Ghost is having some interesting speculation about BitCoin especially after the ruling in Miami and the IRS decision to consider it property and not a currency. I am not Ghost- but when Ebay and Paypal and internet gambling was started I tried to use them as vehicles to avoid currency conversion fees and bank transfer fees and was banned from them. Nothing I did was illegal (at least then) but a new technology that laws didn't catch up with.

Ha, different perceptions. I wound up in New Mexico for about a week for work. Wound up hanging out with a gang of Pro Wrestlers and had the time of my life. I loved the food, the people, and just what a weird libertarian vibe that place had. But checking out the Indian Reservations, I don't think I've seen such impoverished forgotten places in this country.

I love New Mexico too.   Northern New Mexico anyway.  If I could find a reasonably priced home, I'd move there in a jiffy.

I'm cool with Mormons.  Spent some summer vacations in Utah when I was a kid vacationing there with my grandpa. As long as they go their way and let me go my way, I have no problems.  Utah is my second choice for my future homestead. Beautiful country.

I'm fine with most Mormons and other various types especially intentional communities (Anabaptists, Hutterites, Amish, etc) as they tend to have clean areas, work hard, don't trash out the place, etc. As long as live and let live and actually like the more hard-core ones better because no trying to convert anyone else but stick to themselves. But even the Mormons are good for clean streets, guns, preparing, working hard etc. Hell, I say even leave cults and crazy militia types alone if they stay on their land.
