If those deleted emails were just personal emails (as claimed by HMH) then what is the national security issue with having them released?

Exactly. And notice the press never bitches when things like the Pentagon Papers or Manning or Snowden etc.

And, presumably, the damage has already been done so might as well uncover even worse crimes by getting the emails from the Russians, hackers, China, or whoever did it. DA's all the time use evidence and witnesses that might have been acting illegally or even involved in the crime. Say a burglar is trying to steal a flatscreen tv and upon breaking in discovers a body. He has a conscious and calls the police. They will use the evidence of the dead body to try to ascertain who is the murderer. Co-conspirators in crimes or in various frauds give up evidence or do so without police asking in attempts to cop a better plea. If the cops didn't encourage any illegal actions that evidence can often still be used in court.

Every country and state in which their various Foundations and Schools operate should also start an investigation. As I understand there are laws in the States and Countries also relating to taxation, purpose, etc for charitable organizations and Foundations and how they register, if they serve their initial mission, how they are independently audited, how they spend their money, etc. The IRS (and State and other Countries) tax departments should also be looking into the INDIVIDUALS who donated to find out if they were aware of any of the legal problems, lack of filings, change in purpose, or "pay to play" operations because they could own back taxes or even be found complicit in the fraud.
