The place was packed and he had lots of time.  I'd estimate from the audio of bystanders that he was shooting 2-3 rds/sec. I think a .223 FMJ bullet fired near point-blank range would go through several people unless it hit heavy bone.  Hardly anyone reacted for a significant period; they thought it was the music.  Plenty of time to shoot a hundred people in a crowded space.  I think lot of the dead bled out in the three hours it took the cops to get in. And that still needs to be explained...Columbine redux.

Yeah, that's what I remember; I think they thought he had a vest or something.  The only audio I've heard was somebody telling all the officers to get down behind their cars without their heads showing.

It looks like the police response might be fairly characterized as an abundance of caution.

This is an interesting graphic. It doesn't show the 1 case in Alaska, but it appears the primary cause for mass shootings is I-95. We need to do background checks before people can drive on I-95.

In general here. Californians, illegals, please go home. Between your fancy cars and make-up/cell use inattention or the habit of not having insurance or just crossing streets as a pedestrian at whim I'm surprised more aren't road raging. Then we got some guy(s) throwing rocks and bricks at cars on IH-35 (one fellow in coma and severe brain injuries.) I saw a road rage yesterday and just got the F out of there. Some one pulled into traffic forcing a pickup to put on his brakes. Pickup accelerates and rides the other guy honking. Some kid in a Camaro blazes past all of us through a very late yellow. Both then pulled off in an HEB parking lot to 'discuss' the situation.
ps: I've not followed news or listened to radio today. Obama make any drastic actions yet? Some gun grab? Apologize for Muslims? I know he must be really conflicted (many of the victims were homosexual but the shooter(s) was a Muslim. Cognitive dissonance for him.)

So when the Muslims take hostages or go on a rampage they can be dealt with. Admittedly there would be victims (someone has an health issue, on drugs, etc) but such a thing might end the situations sooner and save more people?

Well there is never an perfect solutions but as long as we must import Muslims at least it might save some people. And I would imagine a properly designed agent could get through many gas mask filters or even be designed to enter through the skin.

Like that character in "Bad Santa" maybe? But with weapons. Obama is going to be even more conflicted if this turns out to be true! I'm guessing that in general Islam is against homosexuals so this could cause him some conflict. But then you also read about a great cultural tradition of abusing "dancing boys" (we punish soldiers who try to stop this cultural practice*) and homosexual rape in "refugee" camps etc? So who knows.
