We used to take a cruise to Puerto Vallarta every year...until 2011 when we were met by Mexican Marines with M16s on the pier and patrolling the town in Technicals with a .30 cal MG in the bed.

If one believes the rate certain areas of Mexico have a higher murder rate than in the ME. And the corruption is as bad, or worse, than many ME countries. Though we didn't fly pallets of disappearing cash to them one does recall we bailed them out to the tune of around ~$50 billion USD in 94. But my main point, ignored and singled-minded purpose in the other thread, is that, this is HERE, across an open-border but the news is shocked by events or borders in other countries or halfway around the world?! When I first saw this video like 10 years ago, it was purported to be a witch flying down the road somewhere in Mexico. My Spanish is weak. I can almost read it, but can't translate it if I Hear it.

Yes, "guns uncontrolled" would make everything better.  Hopefully by now most sane people see that reducing gun crimes will require a multi-facetted approach, gun control is just one of many fronts on this battle.  There is no mahic bullet for this issue.  Gun control is a VERY broad term.  To some Gun Control means "using BOTH hands while shooting."

I live just outside the city limits of Kennesaw, GA where it is the law that every one must own a gun. Crime is much lower here than in other towns in suburban Atlanta.  Nobody wants to mess with anybody from Kennesaw.  The law has been in place since '83 and no one has shot up the town yet so I don't see much validity in your argument.

Interesting, although factually incorrect. If you'd bothered to look into it, rather than blandly accepting a factoid, you would see that the statute doesn't require everyone to own a gun, and anyone can exempt themselves from it if they want to. The population of Kennesaw is tiny (about 7000) and that law was introduced in response to a gun ban in a neighbouring town, rather than a blizzard of gun violence. Also, the statistics pre-1982 are so sketchy that it's disingenous to infer that gun ownership is a panacea for everything. It's obviously one of those small town that doesn't have much of a problem with gun violence and never has.

Mr. Vashtar, Do you really think that the people who are up to no good won't carry a gun regardless of the law?  I guess I'm having a difficult time following you here.  There are guns 'o plenty here in America and I don't see that changing anytime soon.  The thought of any and every ragtag out there packing heat is kind of scary but to be honest, in this current climate, I'd rather be mixed up in the gunfight at the O.K. Corral rather than scrambling to find cover for my family and I when some individual with malicious intent comes storming in a'-blazin'.  I wouldn't call that "Bruce Willis," but "just trying to survive."

If there are 'guns 'o plenty' then the idea that they act as a self-neutralising force doesn't work to begin with, does it? You're never going to have a perfect system, and banning guns won't mean that they will cease to exist, but it would probably reduce the incidents of previously non-offending people having breakdowns of one kind or another and going on killing sprees. They are unlikely to find it as easy to obtain guns illegally, obviously. That's the point. I don't think what I said yesterday is all that hard to understand - the more guns you have, the more likely you are to have trouble. There is a disconnect, and many people are unwilling to see what is staring them in the face, and they will use all manner of disingenous arguments to back it themselves up.

I've seen several interviews of people from his mosque.  They said he was a regular since childhood, he was often one of the last to leave prayers, he made the Haj to Mecca twice.  Not to mention he's the SECOND Islamist mass murderer that mosque has spawned. 

He drank.  He beat his wife.  He was gay or bi. Married twice before 30.  Sounds like he could fit into any religious group or congregation in America to me.  Projecting 21st Century Judeo-Christian values onto one raised in a trad Muslim environment is half of the danger we face.  They simply don't see the world or those with other beliefs as we do but we ignore it.
