Yeah, me too but the day before the vote the queen was overheard saying, "They'd better watch it if they know what's good for them." or something to that effect and it was "leaked" to the news.

Considering the people and groups who are promoting the "stay" and my experience with the EU, Euro (though they don't use it,) etc I would vote "exit." But, none of my business. Still interesting to watch.

This sounds about right coming from the sermon of a religious figure or a politician looking to soothe people's pain. But that's not who said this. That person is the chief law enforcement officer of the United States, Attorney General Lynch, who seems more motivated to tend to people's feelings than to enforce the law effectively.

There are plenty of major public figures who can make this kind of speech, but the AG should not be one of them. The AG's job is clear, find out exactly what happened and why it happened. Then start making the changes necessary to deter or prevent the next incidence. Let other people do their jobs. You do yours.

J. Edgar Hoover in a dress understood all this and would have found a way (probably a legal way since his shenanigans would be much harder to pull off these days) to do his job in a case like this. Loretta Lynch in a dress doesn't understand this. Just goes to show that you can't judge competency in that job by speeches or appearances, only by actions.

Yeah, it's pretty weak stuff when you consider how tough and how brutal the people are that she and we are up against. I wouldn't mind so much if she had the same passion for protecting the public, but I'm not hearing it or seeing it.

The best way, incidentally, for anyone in government to convince the public that they don't need more guns to protect themselves in the wake of incidents like Orlando is to demonstrate that the government is capable of dealing with the problem. In the Old West you mention, people only felt secure enough to rely on the law (or the army) once it was shown that the law was in control, not the bad guys.

While the probe was underway, the FBI added Mateen’s name to the “selectee list” on the bureau’s Terrorist Screening Database, also known as the Terrorist Watchlist.

It would ensure he got special screening at airports and that an FBI agent would be alerted if he tried to buy a gun or was stopped by police. About 1,700 Americans are on the selectee list.

So if he hadn't been removed from the list, his purchase would have at least alerted the FBI.  I'm glad the mechanism exists, but I'm surprised so few people are on the list.

I'm no anti-Muslim axe-grinder -- all my interactions with them have been positive -- but from the fact that his suspicious behavior wasn't enough to keep him on the list, we can infer that joking about belonging to terrorist groups and discussing inflammatory and beheading videos at the mosque are sufficiently common in that community that they can be dismissed.  That's pretty troubling.

I get that we have various rights but the thing I can't wrap my head around is why those rights are violated so easily by the government IF you are a citizen but there is such an atmosphere of hesitancy of action if the person is a Muslim, an illegal alien, a recent immigrant, on a foreign VISA, etc.
