Once when I was hauling ass on my motorcycle and a full grown whitetail deer was jumping right into my handlebars, time slowed so much that as an independent observer I was seemingly able to control my trajectory and roll onto and down the pavement. I survived with only light road rash and much soreness. The deer was split in two.

You've probably already checked it out, but if not, I recommend an interesting book called "Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience", which discusses ways to achieve a kind of high-functioning, almost intuitive cognitive state.

One cool time travel idea I remember, was in the sequel to Ender's Game.  Ender travels to a distant colony planet at lightspeed, which for him take a couple years travel or such, but by the time he gets there, like hundreds of years have passed and he's become this legendary/infamous historical figure to everyone else.

It's called "Speaker for the Dead".  Very heavy book.  Kind of a drag really, although in certain ways a more accomplished book than the first.  I heard that there's an alternate series of Ender books were more fun to read, I forget what they're called though.
