Amy, are you actually ON the radio, as in terrestrial FM or AM band somewhere?
Or is it just a figure of speech, and "Amy on the Internet" sounded too much like a dirty website?
Or do you do your show actually sitting on or standing on top of a radio?
These are things I need to know.

But no. I'm not pushing for terrestrial affiliates yet because I need the 7-second delay hardware and crap for sending a reliable stream out. If stream drops at any point, they have to reboot their systems. It's a giant pain which affiliates wouldn't want to deal with if I didn't have the proper hardware.

If you wanna be my rich uncle General and send me that stuff in the mail, I'd be totally cool with that.

If I wanted to be on major stations, I'd need this. About $10K for hardware plus monthly service fees I wouldn't even be able to calculate without getting back in touch with their sales/service department.

I'd be hiring a full time producer, content manager, ad sales/social media marketer, and affiliate coordinator before then though. Would also have a guest host or two lined up.

Baby steps. Really doing this from the ground-up on no budget and trying to make it work by doing several jobs myself while hosting. I dev+manage my own site, gfx work, tech support, audio engineering, producing, writing, and everything else which doesn't involve managing the actual stream. PrarieGhost has been a big help in making that end of it happen, as well as promo and moral support.

As an aside, running Ubuntu on the laptop with most everything essential installed for the show now. Glad to be rid of Windows for primary operations.

You joke about the General supplying you but I notice a lot of the You Tube people I follow are doing just that now to get things they need to improve their shows through patrons who contribute to them through Patreon. I had thought about that immediately after I wanted to do this show months back, but it had no way to convert Patreon subscribers to archive subscribers.

Might be an interesting thing though to think about. People pay for something though, I want to give them something tangible in return. Aside from downloadable content, I'm thinking maybe a t-shirt fundraiser campaign via Teespring or something.

My current idea for making terrestrial happen on no budget: getting lots and lots of organic shares through social media. More live listeners=I can then market the show to legit advertisers (not snake oil salesmen). Advertisers could pay for all of that in a month. To market the show, I need publicly available content. I've got several teaser clips ready to go for Youtube, just need some wrappers and render/upload babysitting time.

You've got me thinking now. Looking back at Patreon. Still want to get these clips out and maybe make a video of me gesticulating. Videos of people gesticulating on Patreon and other crowd campaigns usually mean serious business, right? I don't care if I do a Patreon or not now. I think I just have this desire to make a video of me talking about the show, gesticulating, and perhaps eating a sandwich.

I did promise someone recently I'd upload a video of me trying a "coconut oil pull", as I'd expressed some doubts to its efficacy. Long ago I wanted to do a video web series entitled, "Amy Tries Woo." Could even toss in a few magic tricks. Lots of fun ideas there.  :

Honestly, Amy, I wouldn't worry about jumping through too many extra hoops. You're already giving people what they want. The richer/more generous listeners will just help you make your show better. Seriously, I was watching a vid by one guy and he was showing off the new lens he was able to buy because a patron sent him the money for it. Apparently, it was able to show more close up detail of all the geeky shit he'd pick up in his quests. I've heard stuff like that a lot over the past couple years. You're legit! You should take advantage of that action.

I have been doing the pull for a little over two years. From my experience it leaves the oral parts much cleaner and fresher-feeling than brushing and flossing alone does. So much so that if I'm traveling without my coconut oil, I start to feel like a barbarian mouth by day four. It seems low woo factor to me as the purely mechanical effect of oil squishing through all your dental spaces is quite evident.

I'll be honest.  I'm not a "Fan" of archive based subscriptions.  I will subscribe to people I want to support for a while when they are starting out, but not permanently. Honestly, with all the podcasts I enjoy, I would not be able to afford to subscribe to all of their archives on a permanent basis, but that is not the main reason I'm not a "Fan" of archive based subscriptions.  The main reason is that there are so many programs I enjoy, that I rarely, if ever actually go back to listen to an archive.  I DO like to use "Donate Buttons" and contribute on a rotational basis to the programs I enjoy listening to.

I don't expect to influence any funding solutions, I am just sharing my current method of supporting ALL of those I like to listen to.
