Here are some random chat room comments from Saturday Night's Double Feature Event. The movies were exquisitely abominable:   :)

"The bird is the only one who can act in this film."
"Her bra should have been credited as supporting actress."
"You can tell he's a professor because he's German."

Servo and Crow would be proud.   ;D

Also Gypsy.

Need to do this way more often. Will look for more public domain films. Maybe this time use Tor browser.

I did not envision babysitting laptop backup and running Combofix all night. Laptop expressing symptoms of corrupt OS FS and malware. Probably from one of those sites I tried to access for "public domain films" over the weekend.

Laptop is the workhorse for the show. Due to the hardware setup, I have to run separate PC for DJ, broadcasting tools, and recording. Can't task switch without risking crash of SQL server and losing recorded audio. I run interviews over eth hardline through Skype on laptop and cross-task between show notes, questions, Satellite and social media. iPad is only good for taking calls on another Skype line and doesn't like task-switching. Have another PC but no display without unhinging TV from wall in other room or disassembling my MAME arcade box for its monitor (requires heavy lifting). Also low on studio space so laptop fits nicely between rest of equipment on mixing desk.

So working on this laptop. Hate Windows but necessary evil for all other software I use.

Guest already rescheduled for Monday. Will be welcoming on Billy Roan, former bandmate and former guitarist of The Deadlights then. Tomorrow will be Max Katz, discussing genetically modified foods. Wednesday will be Robert Sullivan talking Freemasonry. He's been on other talk programs but this interview will be different.

So it was Computer Beach Party that did it? :)

Sadly, no. While we were having technical issues with YT wanting to play the subs for Eyes Without A Face, I was looking through what I assumed to be trusted sites for public domain films. Ran across some browser hijackers but killed Chrome twice thinking that would stop them. If you want to blame anything, blame that "Syphilis" short (and maybe Ed Wood for that matter).

I still think it was the 2nd feature that must've done it. Something to do with the bad over-dubbing.

Glad you made it, PG. Fun event.

Yes, Tor browser is kinda like safe sex.   :)

Sounds like you've got plenty of iron to keep running.   Not quite as much as Morten here but
you'll be there in the end [Morten is one of my favorites on YT]:

Let me guess: Max will be telling us all how safe GM foods really are and that everyone should just get off Monsanto's back, right?  ;)  :P

Wednesday sounds cool though!  8)

A lot of talking points and protestor signs are going to need to be updated once Bayer buys Monsanto (assuming it goes through.)

Worth even a relistening since he was a great guest and interesting subjects. But you haven't heard it than definitely "tune-in."

Sorry to hear about the problems. But even 1-2 nights/week of your show is far superior to the other options we've got in this genre that run daily  :)

See you Tuesday (or might have to catch the replay).

I don't think Amy has $300,000 for a VSphere license though.

No doubt! Since I heard the rerun already I popped over to Michael Vara and LNM.   He was discussing pigs walking around upright on two legs and signing the blues about lack of donations with a sullen "Maybe I shoulda taken Art's offer".

What? You no like vaccines?  :P

Tell you what, you get me the vials out of the batch lots that they give to Bill Gates and Hank Kissinger, I'll take all the vaccines you want. Until then, I find your apparent belief that there could not possibly be anything harmful in a vaccine besides, the vaccine itself, to be adorable, quaint, and terror-inspiring.

Have you no grasp of critical thinking? Look into it, Hot Stuff.

I didn't get vaccinated until I was about 30.  I have never been so sick so often in my life since then. Not pleased.

Also, they put mercury in vaccines and flu shots for a preservative, you can read it on the box. The fresh stuff they don't put mercury in. If you get flu shots just ask, they will tell you. If you don't believe them just look at the box they are using. It says right on there.

"Not possibly...anything harmful" doesn't sound like something I'd say, but let's talk.
Anecdotally, I've had the MMR vaccine almost every year in grade school due to lost records, and at least once in college because the records again, couldn't be obtained easily. Same for tetanus, but last I had that was 2013. I get a flu shot almost every year. I've had meningococcal and pneumococcal vaccines as well.

Let's break down this meme, piece by piece.

"Despite being banned in 1999..." - UN proposed a ban, but backed down due to public health concerns in developing countries which couldn't afford alternatives at the time. Reasoning for using thimerosol as a preservative is so that deadly bacteria and fungi don't contaminate vials. Prior to its adoption in the 1930's, lots of people died from early vaccines due to these pathogens that would develop right inside the vials. Data first examined by the UN measured exposure to methylmercury rather than ethylmercury. (I'll explain the differences below.)

- "...in up to 60 percent of flu vaccines"
According to the CDC, only about a third of flu vaccines still contain thimerosol (not 60%), which no other common child or adult vaccines contain anymore. Other vaccines for kids haven't contained thimerosol since 2001.

- "...thimerosol is a mercury-containing compound that is a known human carcinogen, mutagen, teratogen, and immune disruptor at levels below 1 ppm"
This could be an issue if we didn't poop out the small amounts of ethylmercury from vaccines. In other words, ethylmercury  is a metabolite which doesn't bioaccumulate.

Different types of mercury have different biological side effects. Eating contaminated fish is another thing (side note---I've sworn off seafood lately after getting super-sick from wild-caught/frozen cod. With weird ocean temp patterns, Ciguatera seems to be spreading to smaller oceanfishes and nobody has synthesized a viable antidote for it). I'd be more worried about methylmercury amalgams in fillings which expand and contract at different rates than bone with hot and cold foods. That stuff CAN bioaccumulate though the FDA and the ADA don't see it as an issue. I'm quite dubious about that, and have had all of my mercury fillings replaced with composite over the years (though it could be worry for nothing). Though, I digress; dental caries are hardly comparable to opting-out of vaccines preventing widespread virulent outbreak.

Also: reasoning for removal of thimerosol from most vaccines back in 2001 was based on data measuring effects of methylmercury.

- "and a compound to 'causes' anaphylactic shock"
Uh. Anything can cause anaphylaxis if you're allergic to it. Just sayin'.

- "recognized as a reproductive and fetal toxin" - Again, methylmercury is. Also, there are some multi-dose vaccines that aren't recommended for pregnant women.

Vaccines and Autism
The "vaccines cause Autism" thing was a dubious claim made by a guy who seemed be targeting people to cash in on litigation in the UK. It studied 12 children (11 boys) ages 3-10 (very small representative sample) looking to link not just Autism but colitis to the vaccine, and when they didn't find the results they wanted, they were seemingly fabricated on multiple levels. It was discovered by an investigative journalist, and was later retracted by The Lancet. The physician's license was revoked after the longest GMC inquest to date. From what I understand, he escaped fraud charges by running off to Austin to start his own non-profit. (Fun fact: he was an advertised personality aboard the Conspira-Sea cruise when SDM and his wife were arrested coming back into port for supposedly defrauding the IRS. https://www.justice.gov/usao-cdca/pr/hermosa-beach-couple-arrested-federal-charges-related-tax-scam-and-passing-false-checks)

"How the case against the MMR vaccine was fixed"
http://www.bmj.com/content/342/bmj.c5347

Contrary to popular belief, the journalist who uncovered this has a track record of going after physicians and drug companies. His investigations led to the removal of antibiotic Bactrim from the NHS schedule, though we still use it in the US. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Deer#Investigations

Here's a link to the latest meta-analysis of over a million kids studied for links to autism with thimerosol-containing vaccines.
The odds of a kid having autism and being vaccinated are statistically the same for kids who have autism and aren't vaccinated.
Also, no links were found in comparison between grouping by exposure-level or ASD condition.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24814559

Keep in mind, ASD diagnoses have evolved over time with revisions to things like the DSM, which now group and categorize many related disorders for treatment purposes.

Bottom line: If you're worried about thimerosol and not pooping out ethylmercury, then request a flu vaccine without it. If you're worried about some widespread conspiracy for population control, I can't really help you out there.

73s

I'm really unconcerned about the fears of mercury from vaccines. They have always seemed to be unsubstantiated fears not based on hard science and evidence. If people are worried about mercury I'd be much more concerned about your fish consumption. Methyl mercury in fish IS a health concern that is undisputed. Which is too bad because of the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids from fish.

According to the FDA's own guidance, avoid eating more than 6 ounces albacore tuna each week ("canned light" not as bad):

"Another commonly eaten fish, albacore ("white") tuna has more mercury than canned light tuna. So, when choosing your two meals of fish and shellfish, you may eat up to 6 ounces (one average meal) of albacore tuna per week."

It's a larger concern for pregnant and nursing women and young children.

The General

Amy, are you actually ON the radio, as in terrestrial FM or AM band somewhere?
Or is it just a figure of speech, and "Amy on the Internet" sounded too much like a dirty website?
Or do you do your show actually sitting on or standing on top of a radio?
These are things I need to know.
