If you run something like SETI, you end up developing specialized technology to "solve" your problem. Does any of this technology have some kind of secondary use or value on the open market? For example does the tech SETI develops actually make good satellite-detection technology? Or radio-interception technology? Could I miniaturize SETI technology and make really good hand radios to listen to Art Bell with?
What happens to this technology-is it moth-balled or shared with other astronomy groups?

I doubt there's any special hardware associated with SETI, but I think they were one of the first ones (perhaps the first) to come up with distributed computing among internet users.  This requires further research.

Also fuck whoever suggested Neil Dumbass Tyson should be on the show. He's the Jim Henson of scientists, rather than the Quay Brothers or Svankmajer of science.

Grandma you forgot to take your meds again!

I hate Seth, always have. Punchable voice, just like that shitbrain Keith. Both spout condescending teacher-student talk, while not really saying anything at all. Something about the speaking tone of men of their age and positions (60-70, IT, engineers, etc.) makes me furious. Fuck him.

That's funny, I thought he sounded like Keith too.  Same didactic tone.  Something about always being the smartest person in the room.

This, this, this.

While we're suggesting credible scientist guests, can we get Robert Lanza back on Redacted? Please. PRETTY PLEASE.

AT this point most of the important scientists are gone... perhaps a good science historian would make a good guest. Freeman Dyson's own son, George Dyson, has written three wonderful books on varied sciences, including artificial intelligence and - most relevant - the history of Project Orion, which his father was involved with along with geniuses like Ted Taylor, Jerry Astl, Stan Ulam, etc. People who led extraordinarily interesting lives, not the glorified Hoagland that Neil Dumbass Tyson is.

Soon to be BRAAPS, also!
I wonder how hard Art would laugh if someone called him and said Braaps! He has to be in on the joke by now, and Red has surely told him that bellgab is slowly being won over by RCH. I sure was, hated him as a guest, love him as a scientific host.

Oh Dixon, for the record, you came up with Braaps, I re-read the thread this weekend, so take a bow!  :D

This callers lack of intelligence is becoming annoying.

Maybe they can just hide themselves from us? Therefore we will not find them since they make certain we cannot find them?

Well that's fine, I'm going to say the guy giving tours of invisible spaceships is the worst of the 2.

Sure, Greer's definitely the more entertaining parasite.  Seth's con is far more pernicious when you look at scale, impact on the public's capacity for critical thinking, and the fact that their results are about as tangible as Greer's invisible spaceships.

Paying the big bucks to locate a non-profit in Mountain View sets off my money-sense.

Confirmed for worshipers of Father Dagon and Mother Hydra.

We got good cameras, thus no Aliens. LOL. Film a pidgeon from 50 feet away with my Iphone and it's a indiscernible blob, but somehow we're supposed to be able to resolve UFOs at 30,000 feet with the same cameras.

Anything on Clyde Lewis' crap show is suspect...  Black Knight Satellite is a Ground Zero fallacy.

I really wish Hoagie would call in sometimes to BRIEFLY question guests. It would be a great lead in to Otherside.

Black Knight sat, read about it this weekend, yes there are a few pix

I like Bad Grandma posts.... But isn't Art's gig to have these nutters on for entertainment?
