Hmm, I don't think they've advanced to thermonuclear weapons yet though.  Probably not enough yield for an EM strike.

Atom bombs will produce an EMP, Enrico Fermi predicted it and during the first US atomic test they still had problems despite shielding everything. After that, it's all about the altitude and the strength of the EMP. Kerry said years ago that they had at least one if not three bombs, now they probably have more, so that's why they kept doing missile tests aiming at Alaska or overshooting Japan to send a message that they can knock us out with EMP. The actual nukes hitting the ground isn't the point of NK's policy.
