Key is not to add much water. That is the rookie mistake. Haha. I just bought some more rocket engines for kid relatives for Christmas. (Anytime there is a "tragic event" I buy up fireworks, ammo, and rocket-engines, lest some government over-reaction.) My only issue with actual rockets is the last time I did with them went waaay too high and some upper wind took them while floating down, way off-course into the woods. We only could recover one. Sure, could use less powerful engines but, still, come-on, you want to try to go as high as you can! I really don't like how so much fun/science is/will being banned from kids. Now days bringing a pack of firecrackers or a pocket-knife to school will get you a permanent record! I can't believe what would happen with a rocket? Terrorism charge?

Yes. Police state over-reaction. Kids can't even have any real fun anymore. That causes too much pent up emotion, leading to real crimes against other people, or turns them into scaredy-cats or sheeple. It also keeps them from getting involved when they could help someone for fear of prosecution. Knee-jerk over-reaction has created more B.S. laws/rules than anything else.

I had something to do with all of the Shuttle missions beginning with STS-4.

The later ones I didn't really work on, but some of my software was still being used both preparing for the mission and onboard during the flight.

I had a lot of fun jobs during the Shuttle program and a couple that weren't so much fun.

The Columbia and Challenger accidents took a toll on my psyche.

Someday I am going to write a book called Everything I needed to know in kindergarten I learned at NASA

I expect all BellGabbers to buy several copies.

I am between Houston and Galveston. My property is farther north, up towards Waco.

We've had seasonably cool weather, but no blasting northers like we get some years. It bounced up into the 60s for a few days. Not unusual.

It was great weather here this weekend near Austin. Haha. Phone didn't do it justice, as it never does, but managed to capture this pic. Not saying I believe but it was weird and prominent so figured had to take some pics.

A lot of the LEO satellite observatories used VxWorks.  I never did development on that O/S, just IV&V and testing. I don't remember QNX being used.

(Random Geminid meteors this week - Geminid peak Sunday night (13th-14th) Monday morning)



Although the Geminid Meteor shower will be visible all this week, They will peak on Sunday night into
Monday morning this coming weekend. The Geminids can be annually observed between December 4 and December 17.
The shower owes its name to the constellation Gemini from where the meteors seem to emerge from in the sky.



This year should be a spectacular show averaging 100-110 meteors per hour peaking at approximately 2:00 am (local time)
on Monday morning. Skies will be dark as we are just coming off a new Moon on the 11th, providing for optimum
viewing if your skies are cloudless. The Geminids are generally the best Meteor shower of the year, so this is the one
you want to see. MITD or OSOM are not broadcasting so you can dedicate an hour or two to observation and be treated
to a very nice show.

Moon Occults Venus at approximately 16:55 UT.

Jupiter, Mars, and Venus continue to dominate the morning sky. They appear to be pulling apart and rise earlier
each morning. Jupiter moves slowest of the three. It is above Virgo all month. Mars starts the month just north
(or left) of the star Porrima, while Venus is below and left of Spica.
This alignment is known as the "String of Pearls". The Moon anchors the string, with the other objects stretching
to its upper right: Venus, the “morning star;” the fainter star Spica next to the planet Mars; and brilliant Jupiter.
