Has anyone noticed how sucky knapps shows are getting

I don't think I've noticed that but I'll get back to ya!

One show with Knapp that was simply "fascinating" discussed the disappearances and deaths in our national parks.  I passed that story on for weeks.  Heebeegeebee for sure!

Both host and guest were excellent!

ziznak

that was David Paulides and yes awesome show... there's a thread all about that as well with a little bit of a back and forth with one of David Paulides biggest fans... kind of.

George Knapp has a last minute guest change for his Sunday show tonight.
He now has Whitley Strieber scheduled for his main 3 hour guest to talk about his new book.

I wish they could have found somebody other than Strieber, pushing a new book.  Looks to be "non-alien."  I guess he must be taking a break from his psychosis.

ziznak

I'm disappointed about tonights show too... looks like I'll be scanning funky's archives for something later.

Rasputin

I actually like Streiber, and Knapp will ask some good questions so I'll be listening.

Pretty good show.  I especially enjoyed the way GW handled open lines.  He seemed a little frustrated at times but never disrespected a caller...was insightful...challenged them.

I had insomnia so I listened to last night's show live. I've always preferred Knapp as host over the others, but last night solidified that for me. He's able to bring in interesting people, like Paulides, to take the conversation in different directions, which makes his shows ones I look forward to, like Punnet's. He also knows how to handle people and defuse the occasional tense moments. Last night Streiber had a cascading pissy moment after a call from someone referencing the movie version of 'Communion' followed by a climate change denier. The caller after that got the brunt of Streiber's mood, and even though Streiber later apologized for it, hearing Knapp interject with just the right amount of compassion for the caller defused the moment which was kind of painful to hear. We all get passionate about stuff, no biggie, but I felt sorry for that guy because he evidently missed Streiber's request not to talk about the movie, and Knapp's calm voice was never so welcome. He really is a pro, and I wish he was on more.

Knapp isn't as bad as I used to believe he was. I was barley able to listen to some of the end of the show, i caught that caller being scolded, kind of funny.

I liked the way GK handled the callers, too.   It was awesome when he told the last caller on open lines to be quiet so he could talk, and another one who he told to give an example when he was rambling on....

George did a good job, especially with Strieber.  Strieber kind of bugs me.  His voice is somewhat annoying to me, with his strained delivery.  He sounds like he's dancing around most of the things he talks about and I can't help but think he's mostly an opportunist.  No surprise there, of course, and wouldn't be the first for folks on Coast.  He really dances around his supposed "abductions" and he shouldn't be hopping all over callers for talking about "Communion," just because he apparently wasn't happy with it.  Get over it, Strieber.  An interesting quote from Wiki, "He also writes more candidly about the deleterious effects his experiences had upon him while staying at his upstate New York cabin in the 1980s, noting "I was regularly drinking myself to sleep when we were there. I would listen to the radio until late hours, drinking vodka..."  So.... his "abductions" may have been alcohol induced hallucinations, I wonder?  Also, his carping about having to sell his cabin and not being able to afford certain things is kind of hard to take.  With all of his past success, with movies such as "The Hunger" and "Wolfen" and other accomplishments, I have hard time believe he isn't still doing reasonably well.  If not, such is life.  Regardless, I enjoyed listening to Knapp and can't even imagine what a train wreck last night would have been with someone like Snoory.  ::)

I haven't got anything original to add to this thread other than I really enjoyed George Knapp's show last night.  I don't get much of a chance to listen to him and he really did a great job in the time I was tuned in.

I like Whitley Strieber -- I think he IS a deep thinker and if his life experience is what he says it is, he speaks with rare authority.   I always liked his appearances on the show with Art -- they were obvious friends and collaborators and they were clearly on a similar wavelength.

Last night's show with George K reminded me of those good old days.  You had an intelligent host with excellent interviewing skills on a topic that he's pretty conversant with, combined with a guest with no shortage of things to say.   The result is a great radio program that is what Coast should -- and could be -- every night.

I Agree with you ItsOver, Strieber bugs me too. The way he spins a story about an extraordinary experience HE has had regarding
every question by a caller.
George Knapp was excellent as always

I wasn't looking forward to the last minute change to Whitley Streiber as Knapp's guest. Lately he's seemed to me to be progressing into barking dog madness.  Even though he had some angry moments this time,  it seems charitable to cut him some slack just in case he's really been through what he says he has.  This time I found him both coherent and entertaining.

George Knapp wins all the medals here, though, for his outstanding performance as an intelligent interviewer who can think on his feet, bring out the best qualities in a guest, and also tactfully handle the embarrassments of egos colliding.

Completely out of the norm from what we hear during the rest of the week.

witless strieber gets on my nerves also.  there's no random event.  everything has a purpose.  and everything is about him.  he doesn't get reviewed because no one takes him seriously.  he's right below john lear

Not another dimension....but I felt much lighter.

coaster

I remember hearing somewhere that Whitley's wife Ann told him to stop changing his abduction/visitor stories because no one was going to believe him. I really enjoyed reading Whitley's books at first, and I still like his older work. He could tell a spooky story. But the entire alien abduction thing was a work of fiction. I like his enthusiasm when hes on the radio, but he does tend to make the entire thing about himself, even going so far as to talk over other people.

When I think of all the metaphysical experiences I must have had...and never even realized.

Damn right. And all you need is one to write a silly book that will be optioned into a film.

But we also lack surfeit egomania that Whitley has...

I don't believe a word he says.  Can't stand the whiny voice.  Or the victimhood.

Whit (in sad whiny voice) just about everytime I've heard him, although it's been years now:  'I've been mocked, ridiculed, marginalized and ignored...'

Agreed. Knapp has hit his stride, and I quite enjoy his shows. The juxtaposition re Noory is...well...it's unbelievable!  ;)
