I personally think he sucks as a result of it, as opposed to sucking at it. Not the only thing that he does that makes him suck, but certainly a contributing factor. Just pointing out how the loyal followers are mistaking his motives for his actions....

But tonight, George and his guest, Jorge Martin, are discussing Fidel Castro's fascination with ufology. Thank goodness Jorge speaks in broken English and peppers his sentences with copious amounts of umms and ahs. Exactly what demographic does this topic appeal to? I've given George credit in the past for being able to hold his own as an interviewer, but this time he has absolutely jumped the shark. Perhaps George can begin a new series on Coast that reveals uninteresting facts about communist dictators. Unbelievable.

What would having a hobby or a life do to enhance my enjoyment of a pathetic hour of radio? I couldn't care less about a bunch of heresay involving Fidel Castro's interest in UFOs. He's a murderous dictator who's kept his people in widespread poverty. Just a couple of years ago, they experienced a toilet paper shortage. Yet you think there's something wrong with me because I'm not as riveted by unsubstantiated rumors of Castro and little green men? Perhaps it's you two that need lives outside of being mind-numbed robots.

I just caught the last half of the show, with Volt.  It was very good, IMHO.  I'd take Knapp any night over the other C2C host choices.

Oh George... What happened?!?  I agree with lots of the snippets I have heard (it was on in the background) but there was some silliness as well.  I just heard the guest say that she almost died of toxicity.  She claims that her solution was to flush all her drugs and then started thinking positive thoughts.  She claims that she is proof it can be done.  I wonder if it is smart to flush your digitalis?

It is early, but I find myself a little tired and this is not really a riveting show.  Perhaps somebody can let me know if it gets better?

WOTR it wasn't that interesting. Knapp did his best but the first guest really didn't have much new to say and just gave broad general opinions. The book may be different, but she did not seem to talk about it much.

This topic has been done well in the past-Jan 22, 2012 Greg Palast did a similar topic with Knapp and that was a very interesting show.

I had the feeling that the first two hours guest hadn't been interviewed much and was nervous. Knapp did his best, but a lot of what she said was plain wrong:

Drug companies are responsible for the destruction of the Amazon rain forest. No, it's the 'indigenous peoples' who are clearing land to grow crops, and who don't understand the concept of crop rotation, so when the land wears out, they slash and burn some more.

People want electric cars, and it's the evil car and oil companies which refuse to allow them to be made. Complete bullshit. Very few people in this country could use a car that has a range of 60 miles. She was especially upset about Chevy's leased fleet of electric cars which were destroyed after the leases were up. The cars cost $250,000 each to build and leased for $300 a month. Sweet market there.

The guest for the second two hours was very interesting, and I hope he comes back for another show (with Knapp - Noory wouldn't have known what to do with the guy).

I liked when Knapp asked the first guest if (paraphrasing) first worlders denying third worlders modern conveniences wasn't condemning the third worlders to life in the Stone Age.  Her babbling around while trying to maintain her generally left/center, anti-corporate, environmentalist spiel was a hoot.  It generally ran along the lines of "they" are used to hot weather and can wear fewer clothes than enlightened first worlders feel they have to wear.

Thanks for the updates.  As usual I was not able to sleep, so I turned the radio back on during open lines with the first guest and there is 4 minutes left for the second guest.  Open lines was interesting (I really liked when George asked the guest point blank if she would like to elaborate when she just said that she agreed with the caller and left it at that.)

The second guest was pretty good.  I enjoyed listening to what he had to say.  I suppose with experience in the media it was bound to go pretty well with a professional interviewer and a professional media manipulator.  I loved when he mentioned that people stick with their first impression.  Basically he said if you get the facts wrong and somebody believes it their belief will actually grow if they read that they are wrong in the future.  This ties in well with the JB Wells post where I said spreading lies and misinformation before the facts are out is irresponsible.  If somebody believes that the government is involved because the guest made crap up and did not base it on facts they will not ever change their minds (even in the face of proof that they are wrong.)

Sorry- I could not resist adding that last part.  This was an interesting interview.

If world culture would be totally based on telepathy, would semantical juggling, convoluted jargon, and mass manipulation even be in the lexicon? Are there any books re: the latter speculation?

Did anyone on the show point out that democratic countries with lower levels of official corruption tend to be weathier, and countries with lousy corrupt governments tend to be less wealthy?  Did they discuss whether official policies encouraging or discouraging free exchange of goods and services make any difference? 

For countries that have moved or are in the process of moving out of the lousy/corrupt govt category and becoming freer and less corrupt - like Eastern Europe, China, India - did they discuss any correlation between that and their jump in GDP over the past 15 or 20 years?

Is it all really up to the 'corporations'?

Actually, one very articulate caller did bring up that very point (that's it's often corrupt governments rather than evil corporations that do most of the damage), though Knapp (I think) correctly pointed out that the governments are often controlled by the corporations. The guest didn't have much to say about it.
